英語読解力に欠ける投稿者は“has been sanctioned for a lapse in ethics. ”の意味を解しかねた。金を払えば、フルストーリイを取り寄せて、その大意を知ることができるのであろうが、今回はそれをせず、ネットで関連情報を拾うことで持ってその記事の概要を推察することとした。

先ずは、この記事の２ヶ月前のthe New England Journal of Medicineの記事である。これは、ＷＨＯ（世界保健機構）からの支援を得ての推定とされている。

そしてこの推定をフォローするかのように一ヵ月後のＡＢＣニュースに下記の記事がある：

どうやら、米国によるイラク侵攻でのイラク側の死者数の見積もり６５万にはなにやら人為的な操作が施されていたらしいことが推察されるのである。この操作を、サイアンスの記事は、研究者が“has been sanctioned for a lapse in ethics. ”と書いたのである。
