アメリカ真正保守派The John Birch Societyによる、イラン攻撃切迫の情報
ブッシュ大統領は先日、中東での軍事活動強化を発表した。
これはイランでの軍事作戦を視野に入れているのか？
未来の予測は極めて困難だが、以下のようないくつかの注目すべき出来事があった。
・イスラエル核戦力公表
・（イラクでの）イラン領事拘束
・イスラエルのイラン攻撃計画リーク
・イラン攻撃を主張するネオコンの存在
さらに以下の要因を考えると、イラン攻撃が差し迫っていると考えられる。
・アラビア海への空母機動部隊増派
・イスラエルなどでのミサイル迎撃システム配備

The Prospect of War with Iran

ARTICLE SYNOPSIS:
The President has announced the escalation of our military activity in the Middle East. Does this point to a near-term war with Iran?

COMMENTARY:
Based on an analysis of recent events, writer Glenn Greenwald makes the case, over at LewRockwell.com, that war with Iran is imminent. Is it?
In all honesty, predicting the future is a notoriously dicey business, but Greenwald makes several points worth pondering. These include:
• The "accidental" announcement of Israel's nuclear capacity;
• This week's raid on the Iranian consulate;
• The leak that Israel is preparing plans to attack nuclear sites in Iran;
• Neocon advocacy of war with Iran.
In addition, he could have mentioned the following developments:
• A second carrier battle group led by the USS John C. Stennis will join the battle group led by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Persian Gulf region.
• A Patriot missile battalion will be deployed to the Middle East.
There's really only one reason to send the Stennis, and that is in case offensive operations begin, in which case an additional carrier battle group can provide a tremendous increase in firepower. Likewise, there is only one reason to send the Patriot missile battalion, and that is because it can be expected that Iran would launch short- and medium-range ballistic missiles against U.S. and allied targets in the region in response to any attack on its territory.
So maybe there will be a war with Iran. But again, we can't possibly know for sure, even though the signs are ominous that hostilities are imminent. But if a war is imminent, then it is vitally necessary for the American public consider the legal arguments that the administration will almost certainly use to justify the war, because these arguments will again circumvent U.S. Constitutional law.
Under the Constitution, only Congress can declare war. Despite the fact that the U.S. has been embroiled in a whole series of wars over the last several decades, the last time Congress actually declared war, as specified in the Constitution, was after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Since then, war has typically been "authorized" by the United Nations. This is bound to happen again.
Currently, Iran is subject to UN Resolution 1737, which is supposed to force Iran to end its nuclear program by February 21. Of course, no one really expected Iran to do this. What happens after the deadline? By then, of course, the Stennis will be in place and probably the Patriot missiles too. You do the math.
Is there a march to war, and is it irreversible at this point? No one, outside the Bush administration, can know for sure. But what we do know for sure is that the war power is solely vested in Congress and it is vitally important to force Congress to reassert itself in matters of war and peace.
To that end, all Americans should contact their Representatives and demand the legislative repudiation of the UN and the reassertion of Congressional control over the power to declare war.
