毒殺未遂に遭った元ロシアFSB高官アレクサンドル・リトヴィネンコ氏が、
英国選出欧州議会議員ジェラルド・バッテン氏に、プロディ伊首相に
関する情報を提供していたとのこと。
バッテン議員は、06年4月3日に欧州議会で以下のスピーチを行っています。
私の選挙区民アレクサンドル・リトヴィネンコ氏は、元ロシア共和国
FSBLieutenant Colonel でした。
リトヴィネンコ氏はFSBの非合法活動暴露により、政治亡命を余儀なく
されました。
亡命先を決める前に、友人である元FSB副長官 アナトリー・
トロフィモフ将官（*kame注 05年11月にモスクワ路上で妻と
ともに暗殺された ソース：コリエレ紙）に相談しました。
トロフィモフ将官はリトヴィネンコ氏にこう言ったそうです。
”イタリアへは行くな。あそこの政治家にはKGBが多く紛れて
いるから。ロマノ・プローディは我々の人間だ”。
06年2月、リトヴィネンコ氏はその情報を、イタリア政界に
おけるKGBの浸透状況を調査するグッザンティ委員会の
マリオ・スカラメッラに伝えました。

元欧州議長（*kame注 プロディ首相）に対するこの陳述は

徹底調査が行われるべきであり、欧州議会は独自の調査を
進めるべきでしょう。
また、wikipedia バッテン議員の頁から引用すると、
バッテン氏は06年4月26にも議会に呼びかけを行い、
”元KGBの高官たちは、このような調査に適切な条件下で
積極的に証言協力をする”と述べている。
プロディ首相についての最も深刻な情報は、81年ローマ法王暗殺
未遂に関わるとされるKGB工作員を庇護したというもの。

3rd April 2006 : Speech in the European Parliament : 'Romano Prodi'
One of my constituents, Alexander Litvinenko, was formerly a Lieutenant Colonel in the Russian Federation's FSB, the successor to the KGB.
Mr Litvinenko's exposure of illegal FSB activities forced him to seek political asylum abroad.
Before deciding on a place of refuge he consulted his friend, General Anatoly Trofimov, a former Deputy Chief of the FSB.
General Trofimov reportedly said to Mr Litvinenko, "Don't go to Italy, there are many KGB agents among the politicians: Romano Prodi is our man there."
In February 2006 Mr Litvinenko reported this information to Mario Scaramella of the Guzzanti Commission investigating KGB penetration of Italian politics.
This allegation against a former head of the European Commission is one of the utmost seriousness. It should be thoroughly investigated. The European Parliament should conduct its own investigation.

Prodi controversy
In April 2006, he cited allegations by a London constituent and
former FSB agent, Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Litvinenko, that
the Italian Centre-Left leader and former President of the European
Commission, Romano Prodi, had been the KGB's "man in Italy",
demanding an inquiry into the allegations. Batten told the
European Parliament that Litvinenko had been told by FSB
deputy chief, General Anatole Trofimov, that "Romano Prodi is
our man (in Italy)". According to Brussels-based newspaper
the EU Reporter on 3 April 2006, "another high-level source,
a former KGB operative in London, has confirmed the story".
Among Litvinenko's most serious claims is that Prodi assisted in
the protection of KGB operatives allegedly involved in
the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II in 1981.
On 26 April 2006, Batten repeated his call for a parliamentary
inquiry, revealing that: "Former, senior members of the KGB are
willing to testify in such an investigation, under the right conditions.
"It is not acceptable that this situation is unresolved, given
the importance of Russia's relations with the European Union.", he said.
On 11 November 2006, Lt Col Litvinenko was admitted to hospital
with suspected toxin poisoning after eating at a London restaurant.

he was poisoned by thallium, a heavy metal that causes damage to
the nervous system, lungs and kidneys. On 19 November, the BBC
confirmed the story. A Scotland Yard spokesman said Litvinenko was
in a serious but stable condition in hospital. [3]
