In a dispatch posted at 1:20pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US column on the road to al-Baghdadi northwest of Hit, which is about 140km northwest of Baghdad.
The Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the bomb disabled one US transport vehicle, killing its driver and wounding own other soldier who was with him.
Ar-Ramadi.
? US troops murder Imam of mosque in ar-Ramadi at dawn Wednesday.
In a dispatch posted at 6:40pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces shot and killed Shaykh Muhammad Hanun, the muezzin and Imam of the al-Kassar Mosque in the middle of ar-Ramadi as he gave the call to prayer at dawn on Wednesday.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Shaykh ‘Abdallah al-Jazim, a member of the Sunni Waqf (pious endowment) Council in ar-Ramadi as saying that the US troops stormed into the mosque and killed the muezzin just as he was raising his voice in the call to prayer.
Shaykh al-Jasim said, “His voice cut off with the sentence in the standard morning call to prayer ‘prayer is better than sleep’. People in the area who could hear his voice over the mosque loudspeakers thought that the electricity had failed, as frequently happens. But then when they got to the mosque for prayers, the were shocked to find that the Shaykh, who had lived in the mosque for years, had been killed by US troops in the muezzin’s room.”
The correspondent reported that Shaykh Hanun’s body was buried in the ar-Ramadi Martyrs Cemetery at 10am local time Wednesday morning.
? Three US troops reported killed in Resistance ambush in ar-Ramadi.
In a dispatch posted at 10:20am Makkah time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters ambushed a joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol on the main road leading to the Provincial government building in central ar-Ramadi. The provincial government building has been occupied by US forces and used as an American headquarters since after the American invasion of Iraq.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in ar-Ramadi as saying that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons and pipe rockets prepared an ambush for the joint patrol, assaulting the troops and setting fire to one US Humvee and damaging a vehicle belonging to the puppet “Iraqi National Guard.” Three US troops and one Iraqi were killed and four more troops, two of them puppet “National Guards” were wounded.
Al-Fallujah.

The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance fighters equipped with light arms attacked the patrol in the al-Jaghifi neighborhood of northern al-Fallujah late on Tuesday night. The attack left one puppet “National Guard” dead and three others wounded.
Baghdad.
? Fighting between Iraqi Resistance and US Marines breaks out in central Baghdad as evening falls Wednesday.
In a dispatch posted at 7:20pm Makkah time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier fighting ミ which was still going on at the time of reporting ミ had erupted between Iraqi Resistance forces and US Marines in the heart of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at that moment the battle was raging at the intersection at the al-Jami‘ah neighborhood and the al-‘Adl neighborhood, a predominantly Sunni area, and had resulted in cutting main roads in central Baghdad.
At one point an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded among US troops in the course of the fighting. Local residents who witnessed the explosion from vantage points on their roofs reported that they could see the wreckage of a completely destroyed Humvee.
? In victory for residents of al-A‘zamiyah: US-installed puppet “ministries” accept al-A‘zamiyah’s terms for resolution of two days of fighting around the defiant Baghdad district.
In a dispatch posted at 1:50pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that negotiations held between representatives of Baghdad’s al-A‘zamiyah district and the Association of Muslim Scholars, on one side; and representatives of the US-installed puppet “Ministry of the Interior” and “Ministry of Defense,” on the other concluded on Tuesday evening.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the talks took place in a highly charged atmosphere full of mutual charges following two days of assaults on defiant al-A‘zamiyah by pro-American Shi‘i sectarian militias accompanied by puppet “Interior Ministry” forces and backed up by US ground forces and aircraft.
The puppet regime representatives claimed that the reason for the offensive against al-A‘zamiyah was that puppet regime troops had been attacked, ignoring the assault on the district by the pro-American Shi‘i sectarian militias.
Representatives of al-A‘zamiyah and the Association of Muslim Scholars brought documentation proving that a wholesale armed assault by sectarian militias had indeed taken place. They also brought out sectarian militiamen who had been taken prisoner during the fighting and showed Iranian-made and other weapons used by the pro-American militias in their offensive, weapons unlike those carried by the Iraqi puppet army or puppet police. Unable to challenge the evidence presented by the representatives of al-A‘zamiyah and following two days of unsuccessful attacks on the district, the puppet regime representatives agreed to terms set by al-A‘zamiyah, according to Mafkarat al-Islam.
According to the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, the terms agreed to by the two sides are:
* A total withdrawal of all units of the puppet “Interior Ministry” and the sectarian militias under its command from al-A‘zamiyah and its perimeter within eight hours, beginning at 8pm Tuesday night local time, with the local people reserving the right to strike any puppet “Interior Ministry” troops they see inside al-A‘zamiyah.
* The public handing over of all members of the pro-American Shi ‘ sectarian militias who took part in the offensive on al-A‘zamiyah to courts for trial.
* An immediate halt of the campaign of raids, arrests, and searches in al-A‘zamiyah.
* The agreement did not cover US occupation forces that enter al-A‘zamiyah from time to time, for they are everyone’s target all the time.
* Residents of al-A‘zamiyah are not to be questioned regarding the fate of the pro-American Shi‘i sectarian attackers who were killed, since they were the aggressors.
For its part, the puppet regime insisted on deploying Iraqi puppet “army” forces, and only puppet “army” forces, in al-A‘zamiyah.
The representatives of al-A‘zamiyah agreed to the stationing of puppet “army” troops in specific places about which residents will be informed. This was on the condition that the puppet regime “army” pledged to defend the people of al-A‘zamiyah, as the “national army” that it claims to be, against any attacks launched by their allies in the death squads or Shi‘i sectarian militias. If they do not oppose such attacks, the local people will treat the puppet “army” troops just as they treat the sectarian militia gunmen.
But if the puppet “army” forces adhere to their pledge, the local residents for their part pledge not to attack them, unless the puppet “army” troops violate the conditions of the agreement.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the representatives of the US-installed puppet regime “ministries” agreed to those conditions after contacting their superiors in the regime. The agreement was then officially signed.
The correspondent reported that local people felt general relief after the outcome of the talks, considering them to be a victory and also a lesson for the pro-American Shi‘i sectarian militias.
? Life slowly revives, but tension remains high in al-A‘zamiyah following days of battle.
In a dispatch posted at 2:10Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that regular life was very slowly returning to al-A‘zamiyah on Wednesday following two days of violent fighting. American helicopters continued to prowl the skies above the defiant district, keeping tensions and suspicions high despite the truce negotiated by representatives of the district and the Association of Muslim Scholars with representatives of the puppet regime.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from al-A‘zamiyah that shopkeepers were cautiously returning to their stores on ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz Street, an-Nu‘man Street, and al-Kurnish Street. But only a handful of cars could be seen on any of the roads.
There was more activity on narrow side streets of al-A‘zamiyah: near the royal cemetery, the areas of as-Safinah, Raghibah Khatun, and az-Zawiyah. There one could once again see vegetable and fruit vendors selling their goods.
One fuel station opened for business and not a few cars lined up to fill their tanks.
But the main streets of al-A‘zamiyah remain blocked by barricades put up by the residents, and neither the electricity supply nor the water have been turned back on by the puppet regime. Local people have been making use of the large water storage tanks at local mosques.
In terms of security, the large bridge over the Tigris River that links predominantly Sunni al-A‘zamiyah with predominantly Shi‘i al-Kazimiyah remains completely closed. The puppet “Iraqi Army” mans a checkpoint set up at the far end of the bridge on the al-Kazimiyah side. For their part, local al-A‘zamiyah sharpshooters are covering their end of the strategic bridge from hidden positions on their side.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that spies tried to stir up strife among the people of al-A‘zamiyah by spreading rumors that some of the local, predominantly Sunni population had killed a Shi‘i baker during the fighting around the district. But local religious scholars defused the situation by finding the baker and showing the people that he was alive and unharmed, thereby putting an end to the rumors and the potential for violence.
But swarms of American F-16 warplanes and Apache helicopters crisscrossed the skies above the district beginning early Wednesday morning, keeping tension high.
Four large signs have been posted on mosques in the district bearing the names of local martyrs who died defending al-A‘zamiyah on the first day of the fighting.
? Resistance bomb targets puppet police near Baghdad International Fairgrounds.
In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a puppet police patrol on the main road near the Baghdad International Fairgrounds in the western part of the occupied Iraqi capital.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a traffic warden who was near the scene of the explosion said that the bobm had been planted near the fairgrounds and that it blew up by a puppet police patrol, disabling one patrol vehicle and wounding three puppet policemen and two civilians who happened to be nearby.
? Resistance fighters kill two collaborators Tuesday night.
In a dispatch posted at 10am Makkah time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a car carrying two individuals who work in the American high-security district around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad ミ the area dubbed by the US occupation as “the Green Zone”- on Tuesday evening.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Resistance fighters equipped with light arms ambushed the car carrying the men as it drove through the al-Mansur neighborhood of the occupied Iraqi capital. The two collaborators were killed. After the attack, the Resistance fighters withdrew from the scene.
? Killed for their names: America’s sectarian militia allies murder individuals who happen to share the first name of historical Sunni Muslim leader.
In a dispatch posted at 3pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that one indication of the mentality of the pro-American Shi‘i sectarian militia has been revealed in the grizzly statistics of death kept by the Baghdad Forensic Medicine Department.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a total of 122 Iraqi individuals who happen to have the common Sunni name of ‘Umar (“Omar”) have been murdered in Iraq since the mysterious bombing of the Shi‘i shrine of Imam al-Hadi in Samarra’ on 22 February 2006. This number is far higher than that for individuals with other names who have been found murdered in the same period.
The most recent ‘Umar to fall victim to sectarian murder was the pharmacy student ‘Umar ‘Abd al-‘Aziz who was kidnapped by pro-American Shi‘i sectarian militiamen from the front door of the College of Pharmacy in Baghdad’s al-Yarmuk district. His body, bearing signs of torture, was later found in a garbage dump.
Dr. ‘Abd as-Samad Hamid of the Forensic Medicine Department in Baghdad told Mafkarat al-Islam that the number of Sunnis named ‘Umar who have been killed since the Samarra’ shrine bombing is 122 as of this week. He said that stories had recently appeared in the western media reporting the discovery of 14 bodies of Sunnis, all of whom were named ‘Umar. Those stories were true, he said, except that the 14 were only a small number of a much larger and more tragic total.
A list of more than 60 men with the name of ‘Umar who were killed just in Baghdad in the month of March alone is included in the Arabic article at:
http://www.islammemo.cc/news/one_news.asp?IDNews=106839
Some of the 122 ‘Umars were shot to death in groups; others were tortured to death individually and their bodies then dumped around Baghdad, Dr. Hamid said.
The background to the spate of sectarian murders lies nearly 1,400 years ago in early Islamic history.
The most famous ‘Umar in Arab and Islamic history was ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab. ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab was the second leader (Khalifah or “Caliph”) of the Islamic community after the death of the Prophet Muhammad in the year 632 CE. ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab ruled the nascent Islamic state from the city of al-Madinah in what is now Saudi Arabia from the years 634 to 644 CE. Famed for his austere, simple lifestyle and strict moral rectitude, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab continued to live in a small hut after the Islamic state under his leadership had crushed the armies of the greatest empires of the day, Byzantium and Iran. Under ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, the Islamic state freed Palestine and Syria from the Byzantines and supplanted the Persian Sasanid Empire, bringing Islam to the gates of India.
The Shi‘ah, however, regard the first three successors of the Prophet Muhammad ミ Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, and ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan ミ as “usurpers” who, by ruling the Islamic community, delayed the accession of their patron, the Prophet’s first cousin ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, to the Caliphate. ‘Ali became the fourth Khalifah when he succeeded ‘Uthman in 656 CE. The Shi‘ah particularly resent ‘Umar whom they accuse of “persecuting” ‘Ali and directly preventing his accession to power, although it had been Abu Bakr who named ‘Umar as successor.
‘Umar ibn al-Khattab died at the hands of an Iranian Zoroastrian by the name of Abu Lu’lu’ah who apparently resented the fall of the Persian state and stabbed ‘Umar while he was praying. The date of his assassination in the Islamic calendar was 9 Rabi‘ al-Awwal in the year 23 of the Hijrah. This year the 9th of Rabi‘ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar corresponded to 7 April and it is believed that the sharp increase in sectarian murders of men by the name of ‘Umar was at least in part related to the influence of that date.

US troops rushed immediately to close off the al-‘Askari neighborhood and the ash-Shurtah neighborhoods in the area. But local people were able to celebrate the victory with dances and by setting fire to the wrecked GMC vehicle, which was later dragged off to a local puppet police station.
