今更とは思いますが、トヨタのバックにはロックフェラー家４代目当主、ジェイ・ロックフェラーが付いているからということもあるのではないでしょうか。今度の郵政民営化の大旗振り役にトヨタの奥田会長も名前を連ねているとか。
今年行われた愛知万博では、ジェイ・ロックフェラーの出身地、ウエスト・バージニア州がメイジャー・スポンサーになっているとロックフェラーのＨＰに書かれています（ここにトヨタの工場がある）。愛知万博では予想以上の集客があって大もうけをしたそうですが・・。
ロックフェラーのＨＰで検索すると、彼が台湾などにも出かけていることが分かります。

WEST VIRGINIA AND JAPAN -
BUILDING ON A SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP
I致e always believed that it is important, from an economic standpoint, for West Virginia to look beyond the mountains and out into the global economy. And because we have done so, our efforts to attract foreign investment in West Virginia have begun paying dividends.
As an example, in 1996 Toyota broke ground on an engine manufacturing plant in Putnam County that called for 300 new employees.
Today, after a series of expansions and superb production records, Toyota痴 investment in West Virginia is nearly $1 billion, and over 1000 workers are employed at their facility in Buffalo.
In fact, as the old saying goes, success breeds success. The Toyota plant is still growing, and other Japanese companies that supply Toyota, such as Diamond Electric, Okuno International and Nippon Thermostat, have located in West Virginia to be near our Toyota plant.
In order to sustain the momentum that creates those successes, you have to stay involved and keep working hard. Toward that end, I am making another visit to Japan this week. This trip represents the sixth economic trade mission I致e led from West Virginia to Japan since my time as Governor.
And I am pleased that Governor Joe Manchin is accompanying me on this trade mission. I will introduce the Governor to some old friends, and together we値l be making new acquaintances and contacts. A delegation of representatives from West Virginia痴 business community is participating with us, and we are all very excited about the opportunities this trade mission represents for the state.
We are also looking forward to the 2005 International Expo in Achi, Japan, a very exciting venture where West Virginia is a major sponsor. The Expo will host a 展est Virginia Day・event, which promises to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our state to the international business community.
In recent years, we have seen foreign investment make significant contributions to new industries in West Virginia in the areas of automotive manufacturing, bio-technology and aviation.
Over the past decade, Japanese investment in West Virginia has grown to nearly $2 billion, with 18 Japanese-based companies here employing about 15,000 West Virginians directly or in related jobs.
That痴 a remarkable statement of confidence the Japanese have in West Virginia痴 workforce, but it wasn稚 won easily. The Japanese are making investments here in part because of a focused and consistent effort made by many of us ・the Governor痴 office, the West Virginia Development Office, the Discover the REAL West Virginia Foundation and many members of the state痴 business community.
My current visit to Taiwan and Japan is not about what we致e achieved so far - it痴 about looking forward. This trade mission is about the next ten years of investment and job creation. I am excited about the prospects and opportunities this trip will present, and I remain optimistic about the potential to expand West Virginia痴 presence in the global market.
The Mountain State is a beautiful place to live and a great place to do business. It痴 important that we make sure that the world is looking toward our mountains and seeing the same thing.
