日本のTVニュース（放送局は失念）に一度だけ報道されたものです。

ハワイのThe Tsunami Alert Centreが津波が急襲する前に
タイ政府に津波急襲を知らせるe-mailを送信していたという内容です。

日本をはじめ今回の津波急襲は“予測不可能”という前提で、以降
インド洋沿岸諸国にもハワイのThe Tsunami Alert Centreのような施設を
建設する意向という流れになっているようですが、既存の施設でも
ある程度はカバーでき、有効利用もできるところを、新規に施設を建設
する方向性に進みそうな気配には、何かウラはないのかと疑心暗鬼に
させられます。

あと、今回の津波急襲の寄付に関して、最近有名人の高額寄付が
メディアをにぎわせていますが、先日のインドネシアでの各国政府の
援助金拠出ショー同様の臭いを感じずにいられません。

Thailand ignored tsunami alert: report

More than 10 days after walls of water sledgehammered more than
150,000 to death, reports continue to surface of alerts ignored
by government bodies.

The Tsunami Alert Centre in Hawaii sent an e-mail to Thailand's
Earthquake Bureau an hour before the waves struck but the missive
remained unopened, says a report in the London Times.

The report quoted a Bangkok newspaper, the Nation, as saying
the Bureau staff were too busy sending faxes about earthquakes.

Bangkok felt tremors of the Indonesia quake at 8:05 am and
the Bureau was flooded with calls. In the rush to focus on the quake,
the vital warning was ignored, says the Times.

The report quoted the officer on duty at the time the e-mail was
sent as saying he did not think of the waves
because he was an earthquake specialist.
