Israelis shoot stone-thrower dead
Tuesday 20 April 2004, 15:51 Makka Time, 12:51 GMT
Israeli soldiers have shot a Palestinian dead after a confrontation in which the 17-year-old threw stones at occupation forces.
Medics said Mutasim Nasir died immediately from gun shot wounds while he and other youngsters hurled rocks at an armoured patrol.
Israeli military sources would not confirm the fatal shooting, but admitted a crew of one tank had fired on a Palestinian youth who had climbed up on to their tank.
With the number of attacks on illegal Israeli settlements increasing since the assassination of Dr Abd al-Aziz al-Rantisi, occupation troops have begun implementing severe curfews in many towns and villages.
Village raid
After forcing their way into once such village, Silwad - near the West Bank city of Ram Allah, Israeli troops imposed a day-light curfew and then performed house to house searches – arresting dozens of men.
Aljazeera's correspondent in Palestine, Walid al-Umari, reported that house to house searches continued into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
"Soldiers smashed much of the contents of the houses they searched, arresting many men and transferring them to a military camp in a nearby settlement.
"It seems occupation forces are looking for Ibrahim Hamad, leader of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades in the village."
