Heavy fighting between American forces and Taliban and Al-Qaida Mujahideen has been reported by Jasarat. The battle against American forces has resulted in deaths of at least three American Special Forces soldiers. Three Mujahideen were martyred in the battle and two others were wounded. The attack took place in Barmal when during a normal operation to route Taliban “remnants” when Mujahideen opened fire on the Americans. The firefight lasted for several hours. The American soldiers and their Afghan allies were transported using helicopters and armored vehicles to an unknown location.
The Taliban have accepted the responsibility for the martyrdom attack against British soldiers which also wounded other soldiers in the ISAF according to Daily Ausaf. The bombers were originally targeting the ISAF headquarters when an ill-timed British convoy presented the opportunity for an immediate strike. One British soldier was killed and four french and one afghan soldier were wounded in the Taliban offensive.
The fifteen soldiers who went missing in action during Operation Mountain Resolve last year are still unaccounted and no group has accepted responsibility for their capture. The soldiers went missing in November and negotiations were held between Americans and Hizb-e-Islami and Taliban to find more information about them but the negotiations failed on Saturday without any results. Taliban and HI have rejected claims that they captured 15 soldiers and have indicated that the soldiers probably died in fierce fighting. The Americans are still clinging to the claim that the MIA are alive. Our sources have said that the MIA numbered 40 which JUS and others reported after the operation ended in dismissal failure. It was this operation that lead to Operation Avalanche, the biggest operation ever conducted in Afghanistan by US army.
A land mine explosion in Kunar destroyed an American military vehicle wounding three coalition soldiers. The area is experiencing a resurgence of Taliban attacks and Taliban commanders have vowed to increase operations once the harsh Afghan winter is over. (JUS)
