という題名のロイター記事なのですが、そのなかにこんなことが書かれていた。

衝突したけれども負傷者はいなかった……だってさ。
なんだか1980年代の三浦和義ロス疑惑事件のお祭り報道を思い出す。
あの当時、梨本レポーターが三浦氏の自宅前に詰めていて、竹竿の先に
「あなたは前妻を殺しましたか？ ハイかイイエでこたえて下さい」と大書きした
ボール紙をくっつけて、その竹竿を自宅二階の窓に掲げて三浦氏の返事を求める
など、むちゃくちゃなことをしていた。
叶姉妹のケツを群れを成して追いかける芸能レポーターの連中と、本質的には
まったく同じってのがなさけない。

Japan media, govt feud over Iraq troop coverage?By Olivier Fabre
SAMAWA, Iraq (Reuters) - Japan's government and its media clashed on Wednesday over the rules of engagement for covering the dispatch of troops to Iraq, the nation's first military mission in a de facto war zone since World War Two.
Throngs of journalists are dogging the steps of an advance team of some 35 soldiers who arrived in the southeastern town of Samawa on Monday, pursuing them in car chases like paparazzi after rock stars and staking out sites where they might show up.
Two Japanese media vehicles collided while chasing a Japanese convoy through Samawa on Wednesday, though no one was injured.
Worried about the soldiers' safety, Japanese officials both in Iraq and back home in Tokyo are reluctant to disclose schedules for the team's movements, forcing frustrated reporters to turn instead to Dutch forces operating in the area for clues.
"Please do not report on any of our activity schedules," an official of the Self-Defence Forces, as Japan's military is known, told a news conference in Samawa. "This kind of information on our daily schedules affects the security of our personnel and I ask you to refrain from making it public."
The dispatch of troops to a de facto war zone marks a historic shift away from the purely defensive posture Japan has maintained since its defeat in 1945 -- and is pushing both the government and the nation's media into uncharted territory.
The request for restraint and a warning that briefings would be cancelled if media did not cooperate prompted a heated reply.
"If you force us not to report on anything, then that throws us back to the days of the Great Japanese Empire," one Japanese journalist said, referring to censorship before and during World War Two.
Media executives back home were also unhappy. "The dispatch of the Self-Defence Forces to Iraq is highly controversial and is a matter of great interest to the public," Masayoshi Fukuyama, a spokesman for Japan's Kyodo News Agency, told Reuters in Tokyo.
"However, it can hardly be said that the Defence Agency is fulfilling its accountability to the public, as it refused to provide any information on the January 19 entry into Iraq...citing the safety of troops," he said, adding that the government should discuss improving the arrangements soon.
HIGH ANXIETY
The advance team is acting as scouts for a larger contingent of up to 600 ground troops who will engage in humanitarian and reconstruction work. Total Japanese deployment in Iraq and nearby countries is expected to total around 1,000 military personnel.
Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Tuesday that the government was trying to balance two duties -- ensuring the safety of the soldiers and informing the public.
"How do we do both?" he said at a news conference. "We want to work out properly what information we will provide."
The deployment poses a huge political risk for Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, whose government could well be jolted if, as many expect, Japanese soldiers suffer casualties.
Constrained by Japan's pacifist constitution, no Japanese soldier has fired a shot or been killed in combat since World War Two.
