Osama's hospitality trap Taliban, says ex-Pakistani FM
Islamabad, Dec 24, IRNA -- Pakistan's former foreign minister, Sartaj Aziz has said that some hardened policies of Taliban worsened the situation for them, saying that undue hospitality of Taliban for Osama and his Al-Qaeda led to the collapse of Osama.
"Obviously, one of their big mistakes was their hospitality to Osama and members of his Al-Qaeda movement that proved a death trap for them," Aziz told the BBC Pashto service.
"We had become very disappointed during last two years because Taliban were not listening to Pakistan as well.
I have personal experience on many issues that we wanted to convince them but we were unable to," he maintained.
Taliban performance in the first one or two years was very good because they restored law and order in the entire Afghanistan.
"Later, their policy about women, education, international and their Islamic teachings gradually became desperate," he added.
He elaborated that Taliban became gradually aloof of the people as they imposed a ban on Afghan culture, which was not acceptable to the people.
"They later exported their own Islamic policies to Pakistani tribal area and as a result Talibanization became popular in Pakistani tribal belt.
Their links had been proved with the religious seminaries over here," he declared.
