Why is azzam.com being attacked in the media?
In the event that this site closes down, please make a note of any of the following sites for Azzam's daily news bulletins on Afghanistan:

These sites have put up Azzam bulletins before and they may or may not continue to provide updates should our site closes down.

The last few days has seen a flurry of attacks and accusations against azzam.com in the international media.
Some of these claims are answered below.
Links to the reports can be found in the Associated Links section at the end of today's news.
1. The first accusation is of our 'links' with Usama Bin Ladin because of a 'Message from Usama Bin Ladin for the Muslim Youth' that went on our site dated 09 December 2001.
This message was taken from the 06 December 2001 issues of the Pakistani Islamic newspapers, Daily Islam and Islam News, that are printed daily in Pakistan, in both English and Urdu.
Has US 'officials' had reliable intelligence on the ground in Pakistan, they would have verified the source of this message as coming from these Islamic newspapers three days before it went up on our site, and thus avoided making fools out of themselves infront of the international media by making unprofessional statements based on a lack of research.
2. The second accusation is that the US officials 'fear the site is embedded with secret codes and instructions of use to militants including affiliates of Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network' using steganography image-encrypting techniques.
This is a laughable claim that is made against any media organisation that exposes the lies of the US. It was made before against Al-Jazeera TV and now it has been made against us.
The US has apparently confirmed that this site is 'being monitored' and this in itself is an answer to the baseless claim above.
What they are saying is that cells of terrorist 'sleepers' who try to hide themselves from society and intelligence whilst they plan for their terrorist attacks are going to go to perhaps the most well-known English language site on Jihad, which is almost certainly being 'monitored' by authorities, (having their IP addresses tracked in the process), and then download image files contain secret messages containing their instructions.
Common-sense would dictate that such terrorists would stay away from high profile sites altogether for fear that accessing them might give them away.
The real reasons for hostility to the site are given below.
3. The third point is that azzam.com is 'virulently anti-American and anti- Western'.
Well, the same could be said for CNN or ABC, that they are 'virulently anti-Islam and anti-Muslim.'
America is waging a war against Islam and Muslims and this is not even something that is hidden from general knowledge.
For example, everyone knows that this war against 'terrorism' is only against Muslims.
Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Indonesia are all on the American hitlist and are all Muslim countries.
Nowhere has the Coalition mentioned military action against Tamil Tiger terrorists in Sri Lanka, Israeli terrorists in Israel, Basque Separatist terrorists in Spain or Real IRA terrorists in Northern Ireland, even though these groups are responsible for more civilian deaths than some of the 'terrorist' groups in the countries mentioned above.
America and the West are at war against Islam and the Muslims.
What do they expect our site to be?
Pro-American, Pro-Israeli?
4. The fourth accusation is azzam.com containing 'statements in support of terrorism to defend Muslims in the Caucasus'.
This statement is in itself an answer to this accusation.
After the 11 September terror attacks, the freedom- fighters in Chechnya became Bin Ladin's terrorists.
Therefore, according to this accusation, Muslims who are being slaughtered in Chechnya should not fight back because they will be labelled terrorists.
They should sit round a negotiating table with Vodka-drunk, rapist, paedophile, Russian troops, whose atrocities have even been documented by European human rights organisations.
Muslims should not have a right to defend themselves, whenever someone wants to kill them, they should obey and happily put their heads into nooses with their own hands.
That way they won't be accused of being terrorists;
they will only be accused of being dead ones.
5. The fifth accusation is azzam.com 'openly recruiting martyrs for a global jihad and disputing Muslim involvement in the September 11 attacks on the US'.
And where exactly are the recruitment centres that potential 'martyrs' are supposed to turn up with their passports and health certificates?
Regarding disputing Muslim involvement in the 11 September terror attacks, this dispute is based on 'evidence' provided by the US, which has...NOT BEEN INDEPENDENTLY CONFIRMED.
In the same way, does not the US dispute its involvement in every major terrorist activity it has carried out since the obliteration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, killing over 220,000 innocent civilians (73 times more people than were killed in the 11 September terror attacks).
6. The real reason for US anger on the web-site is that we have providing accurate information on US blunders and US casualties in the war so far, which is the right of the American people to know, since it is their sons, and not Bush's and Rumsfield's sons, that are being sent to the battlefield.
US claims on their casualties so far are ridiculous in the least.
The Mujahideen have acknowledged their losses as and when they have occurred.
Many Mujahideen have been martyred and many have been injured.
That is the nature of war.
However, for the US Government to hide even realistic casualty figures from their own people is deceiving them.
Sooner or later, proof of these casualties will be provided, so the US Government may as well start increasing their figures, be it by 'friendly-fire', because everyone knows that US soldiers are immortal to being killed by the enemy, much the same way as one may use a cheat on a shoot-em-up computer game to avoid being killed.
Even if they claim friendly-fire blunders, the American people whose money and blood is being used to pay for this war have a right to know what losses they are really suffering.
Blaming other web-sites that you do not agree with is childish and immature.
Brave men fight wars on level battlefields.
If the US thinks our site is propaganda, then let them match it with even more propaganda based on facts and refuting our claims.
MAJOR MUJAHIDEEN OFFENSIVE ON KANDAHAR AIRPORT
KANDAHAR (Institute for Islamic Studies and Research):
The Foreign Mujahideen launched a major offensive on US Marine and tribal positions in Kandahar Airport Tuesday.
They succeeded in destroying the base, which was occupied by approximately 800 troops, both American and tribal.
Almost 200 of the enemy were killed in this bloody encounter and many more were injured.
In the ensuing battle, 25 of the Mujahideen attained martyrdom and dozens more were injured, from light to heavy injuries.
May Allah accept the martyrs and heal the wounded.
This successful offensive has proved that the war is far from over in the South, but instead, US Marines travel the region in fear of lightening Mujahideen raids and ambushes.
MULLA UMAR DID NOT PLEAD ANY DEAL WITH US AGENT HAMID KARZAI
KANDAHAR (Institute for Islamic Studies and Research):
The Western media has reported that Mulla Umar begged Hamid Karzai to spare him when he gave him control of the city.
These reports are baseless because Mulla Umar was spared the misfortune of having to sit in the same room as the US agent, Karzai.
Mulla Umar did not negotiate, either directly or indirectly, with the US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai.
Instead, any talks regarding the handover of Kandahar were convened amongst the Taliban Council, with the presence of religious scholars and tribal elders and they decided to hand over control of the city to Mulla Naqeeb, who is a pro-Taliban tribal leader.
The handover was carried out to free resources for the war against the invading Crusaders and all those present vowed to continue the Jihad against them, certain that eventually, the end will be favourable to Islam and the Muslims.

Fears of secretive codes on jihad website

AN enigmatic Islamic website devoted to jihad, or holy war, has elicited concern among US officials.
They fear the site is embedded with secret codes and instructions of use to militants including affiliates of Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network, Newsweek has reported.
Azzam.com, an entity operated by an unknown group of individuals under the auspices of Azzam Publications, is named for Abdullah Azzam, a Palestinian militant killed in a 1989 bomb attack in Pakistan.
It has no bricks and mortar address, but operates a post office box in London, and bills itself as "an independent media organisation providing authentic news and information about jihad and the Foreign Mujahideen everywhere".
In an open letter to US President George W. Bush and throughout the website, Azzam Publications is virulently anti-American and anti-Western, openly recruiting martyrs for a global jihad and disputing Muslim involvement in the September 11 attacks on the US.
A recent posting, dated December 9, is datelined from the southern Afghan city of Kandahar and is a message to Muslim youth from top terror suspect Osama bin Laden.
The message underscores reported US suspicion that supporters of the Saudi-born multimillionaire, whom Washington blames for the attacks on New York and the Pentagon, are behind the Internet site.
A farewell message from Azzam Publications dated November 20, still on the website, exhorts "Muslims all over the World (to) render as much financial, physical, medical, media and moral support to the Taliban as they can".
Newsweek reported that European hackers who broke into its German-based subscriber list found an e-mail address for Said Bahaji, a fugitive identified as a member of the September 11 hijacking cell based in Hamburg, northern Germany.
The magazine has reported in its issue out tomorrow, the belief of British and US intelligence sources that some of Azzam.com's jihad photos and graphics contain messages embedded with a technology known as steganography ?
so sophisticated it is difficult for intelligence agencies to decode.
