Dec. 1 — Abdul Hamid, the 20-year-old American Taliban fighter who surrendered to Northern Alliance Forces on Saturday morning after a vicious prison uprising near Mazar-e Sharif, has been taken into custody by U.S. Special Forces soldiers, according to Northern Alliance sources.
ACCORDING TO DOCTORS at the Turkish-Afghan hospital in Sherbagan, about 65 miles west of Mazar-e Sharif, Hamid and about 80 other wounded Taliban prisoners arrived there around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Minutes later, four Americans, including Special Forces soldiers, arrived and took Hamid into a separate room where they treated and bandaged a small gunshot wound on his right leg, and shrapnel wounds on his left. Approximately two hours later the Americans left with Hamid.

A Northern Alliance military source said that the U.S. soldiers had taken Hamid to Mazar-e Sharif. At their base in the center of Mazar on Sunday, U.S. Special Forces soldiers refused to comment on the wherabouts of Hamid.
Dr. Abdul Wadoot, chief of anesthesiology at the hospital said that Hamid seemed calm and in good spirits and that, other than his leg wounds, he appeared to be in decent physical shape.

Dr. Wadoot said that the U.S. team included one man carrying a video camera who matched the description of the CIA agent named “Dave,” who was videotaping Hamid’s fellow prisoners when the uprising began last Sunday. “Dave” was one of two CIA officers working in the prison at the time; the other officer, Johnny (Mike) Spann, was killed by Taliban prisoners.
