我が家の唯一の宅配紙、日経は、株価の暴落という事態もあってか、この事件を大きく報じています。しかし、総力取材の割には、下記の現地報道にある矛盾を報じていません。見出しでは「前にも」(Airbus Planes Have Crashed Before)、本文では「アメリカで初の双発エンジン・エアバスの事故」(first crash of the twin-engine Airbus jet in the United States)になっているのです。
同じエアバスでも、エンジンの構造が違えば、別の統計と原因検討の必要があるでしょう。関係者は、そのことを知っているからこそ、テロテロにテロってしまって、大騒ぎになっているのかもしれません。

Airbus Planes Have Crashed Before

The crash of the American Airlines plane in New York City today was the first crash of the twin-engine Airbus jet in the United States since the aircraft was put into service in the mid-1980s, the aircraft manufacturer said.
Airbus officials said there have been six crashes of the A300-600R since 1988, including an Iran Air plane that was erroneously shot down by the U.S. military over the Straits of Hormuz in July 1988 killing 290 people and a Korean Air plane that crashed in 1994 in which no one was killed.
The other fatal accidents involved China Airlines crashes in Japan and Taiwan in 1994 and 1998 respectively, killing a total of 460 people, a Pakistan International Airlines crash in Nepal in 1992 killing 167 people and a Garuda Indonesian Airline crash in Indonesia in 1997, killing 234 people.
"It's had a very good track record," said Airbus spokesman David Venz.
Last May, after investigations by U.S. and European aviation regulators, Airbus installed engine safety devices to fix a problem that almost caused an accident when the aircraft's engine thrust reversers kicked in shortly after takeoff. The reversers redirect the engine exhaust to help the aircraft slow down after landings.
Venz said the "thrust reverser problem was taken care of months ago."
The original Airbus A300B was put into service in 1974 and was the first jumbo jet certified to fly on just two engines. Since then other aircraft have also adopted the two engine configuration.
The A300-600, an updated version of the same basic aircraft, went into service in 1984. American Airlines first put the aircraft into service in 1988.
A check of the four A300 Airbuses used by American for its flights to Santo Domingo showed that they all have GE engines, type CF6.
