U.S. Using Chemical Weapons on Afghans: **La Liberation**

TEHRAN The French daily ** La Liberation ** announced on Tuesday that the United States had used chemical weapons against the human shield in Afghanistan.
The report comes after the U.S did not respond to similar accusations made by the Taleban last week.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon said that U.S. military strategists are considering establishing a base for commandos inside Afghanistan to support opposition forces fighting the Taleban regime.
A U.S. Defense Department official commented on reports of the plan in Monday's *** USA Today ***. He said that the idea was only one of a number of options under deliberation by the military as it considers ways to strengthen the Taleban's opposition in Afghanistan.
"It could be one of many, many things that we're thinking about," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
*** USA Today *** reported that U.S. forces may soon establish a base, designed to accommodate 200 to 300 commandos.
According to the newspaper, up to 600 soldiers would provide security and logistical support at the base, including food supplies and medical care.
On Tuesday, an Iranian official announced that the South African government has expressed concern about the number of civilian deaths in Afghanistan, and has called for restraint in the use of military strikes by the U.S..
"While South Africa recognizes the right of the United States government to track down the perpetrators of the September 11 terrorist attacks and bring them to justice, the death of innocent civilians is a matter of great concern," Deputy Foreign Minister, Aziz Pahad. said in a statement here.
Also on Tuesday, Pakistani Finance Minister, Shaukat Aziz, called for a swift end to the U.S.-led military action in Afghanistan and urged the world not to forget the impoverished country, once the fighting was over.
"We would like it to end sooner rather than later," Shaukat Aziz told delegates at the East Asia Summit in Hong Kong, part of the ongoing World Economic Forum.
