中国人の祖先は北京原人ではなく、アフリカから渡ってきた―こんな研究結果を上海の復旦大学の金力教授らが分子遺伝学の手法を使ってまとめた。
二十一日付の無錫日報によると、金教授らの研究チームが一万人の中国人の血液からＤＮＡを抽出して分析したところ、世界の他の人種と遺伝的に異なる特徴を持つ人は一人も見つからなかった。このため、金教授らは他の現代人と同様に中国人もやはりアフリカを起源とし、地中海沿岸から南アジア、さらに東南アジアなどを経由して中国にやって来たと推測している。
中国では中国人の祖先は北京原人とする説が出されているが、金教授らは北京原人の子孫は氷河期に何らかの原因で絶滅したとみている。

題 名: 聖マリアンナ大病院で昨年も医師が麻酔薬乱用死（読売）
麻酔科医師（２９）が今年六月、多量の麻酔薬吸引による中毒と見られる症状で変死した聖マリアンナ医科大学病院（川崎市宮前区）で、昨年四月にも、麻酔科の別の医師が麻酔薬を多量に使用して中毒死していたことが二十二日分かった。同病院では、麻酔薬による医師の変死が相次いだことから、院長や学長を含めた「調査委員会」を設置、薬品の入手方法や病院の薬品管理に問題がなかったかどうか調べている。
昨年四月の医師変死は、病院から神奈川県警宮前署に届け出があった。同署の要請で、病院側が医師の尿を調べたところ、ベンゾジアゼピン系とバルビツール系の薬物が検出され、麻酔薬を多量に使用したことによる中毒死と判明した。
同病院の沢崎幸次・庶務課長は「当時、金庫内に保管した麻酔薬が不足していなかったことは、麻酔科の複数の医師が確認している」としながらも、「死亡した医師が、患者に使用して余った麻酔薬を持ち出した可能性は否定できない」としている。
同病院の麻酔科では先月二十三日、男性医師が横浜市青葉区の自宅で死亡しているのが発見され、自宅から麻酔薬「セボフルラン」の空き瓶が数本見つかった。

人気テレビ・シリーズ「Ｘファイル」は、米国では秋から「シーズン８」に突入する。「撮影期間３カ月」の契約を結んだデビッド・ドゥカブニーは、新シリーズ全２０話のうち、１１話のみに登場。かわって、かつて映画「ターミネーター２」（１９９１）で敵役ターミネーター「ターミネーターＴ１０００」を演じたロバート・パトリックが、スカリー捜査官の相棒役、ドジェット捜査官を演じる。
パトリック演じるジョン・ドジェット捜査官は、スカリー捜査官をサポートし、「シリーズ７」の最終話で、宇宙人に誘拐されたモルダー捜査官の行方を調査する。ドジェット捜査官は「すべての事件は、捜査官次第で解決することができる」をモットーとしており、スカリー捜査官とのコンビが、番組にどんな展開をもたらすのか、興味深い。はたしてパトリックはどんな「表情」の捜査官として登場するのだろうか。
ＳＦＸを駆使した「Ｔ２０００」は、その特殊効果ばかりが話題を呼んだが、パトリックのサイボーグらしい冷たい表情が「ターミネーター２」の緊迫感を生み出したのも確かだ。どんな攻撃を受けても変わらぬポーカーフェースが、「ターミネーター」の不死身さを印象付けたはずだ。
米国では「シーズン８」が秋からスタートするが、日本では「シーズン７」の最終話がビデオレンタルされるのは１１月３日。「Ｔ１０００」捜査官役の活躍が日本で見られるのは、まだまだ先となりそうだ。

ローソンのウーロン茶を飲むと、吐き気を催すなどの苦情が一部で寄せられていたが、今回の雪印スキャンダルを機に売り場から姿を消している。
最近、コンビ二は雑誌、新聞の販売にとって大きな市場になっているために、コンビ二のスキャンダルは雑誌、新聞にとって書くのは難しい。 それを良いことにして、ローソンのウーロン茶スキャンダルは闇に葬られつつある。

A secret CIA overview of the U.S. intelligence community prepared for visiting Japanese intelligence officials has been posted on an Internet site frequented by activists opposed to government secrecy, prompting security concerns among intelligence officials and their overseers on Capitol Hill.
The CIA briefing, containing some sensitive information about budget trends and so-called "hard" intelligence target countries, appeared a week ago on Cryptome, an Internet site (http://jya.com/crypto.htm) maintained by John Young.
Young is a New York City architect who started posting government documents on encryption and intelligence issues six years ago.
He said he posted the secret CIA document, together with lists naming hundreds of agents from Japan's Public Security Investigation Agency, after receiving the documents from a source in Japan.
CIA officials have not asked Young to remove the briefing from the Web site, but he said two FBI agents called him on Thursday and forwarded a request from the Japanese Ministry of Justice that the lists be removed. Young refused, saying publication of the lists contributed to public awareness of how government agencies function.
Young said he posts documents that interest him and lets others figure out whether they are authentic or sensitive. "Our little site got started by letting people tell us," he said.
Young said the source who provided him the CIA briefing materials did so under a pseudonym.
One senior intelligence official said that official visitors from Japan's Public Security Investigation Agency were authorized to receive the secret briefing at CIA headquarters in June 1998. "But public disclosure of that information is troubling," the official said. "In terms of the information [contained in the briefing], it is not insignificant. We're always concerned when classified information is disclosed publicly."
Written briefing materials - presented by Charles E. Allen, the assistant director of central intelligence for collection - state that executive boards had been created to review plans for penetrating five "hard target" countries - Iran, China, North Korea, Cuba and Russia. The countries are singled out for focus under Presidential Decision Directive 35, an order issued by President Clinton establishing national intelligence priorities.
Allen's calling card - including his home telephone number, his secure satellite telephone number and two e-mail addresses - is also part of the briefing materials.
The briefing materials also contain closely guarded budget and personnel figures, stating that from fiscal 1991 to fiscal 1999, the National Foreign Intelligence Program, encompassing all civilian and military foreign intelligence activity, lost 20,559 employees. Despite those losses, the documents say, personnel costs grew from $4.7 billion to $5.4 billion. Had no personnel cuts been made, the briefing materials add, personnel costs would have bee
n $1.4 billion higher in fiscal 1999.
The intelligence community's total budget, encompassing 13 agencies and dominated by spending for satellites and other major technical systems, is thought to be around $30 billion.
"I was very disturbed to learn that there may be a classified CIA document posted on the Internet," said Sen. Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.), chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. "The committee has spoken to Mr. Allen and will continue to examine whether any classified information has been disclosed, and if so, by whom."
Ichiro Shinjo, head of the General Affairs Department of Japan's Public Security Investigation Agency, said the Japanese government believes that a PSIA employee who resigned under pressure in December 1998 is the source of the briefing materials. The employee, who was prosecuted and put on probation, and has since posted rosters and other documents from the PSIA on Web sites under his own name, Shinjo said.
In fact, Noda recently published a book entitled "CIA Spy Training: An Experience of One Agent of the PSIA." On the cover of the book is a picture of a CIA "Certificate of Training" presented to "Hironari Noda, for completion of the intelligence analysis course in June 1998."
The document posted on Young's Web site is entitled an "Intelligence Community Overview for Japanese Visitors" from the PSIA.
It is dated June 22, 1998.

WASHINGTON -- A private Web site has published a secret CIA overview of the U.S. intelligence community prepared for Japanese intelligence officials who visited the agency's headquarters in 1998.
The briefing containing information on the CIA's budgets and personnel trends was posted by John Young, 64, a New York City architect whose Web site has displayed government documents on intelligence and encryption issues since 1996.
Last month, Young published an unedited version of a secret history of the 1953 CIA-mastered coup in Iran that was originally published on The New York Times Web site with portions blacked out.
Young said he received the 1998 CIA briefing by e-mail from an anonymous source in Japan.
"We have a standing invitation for anyone who wants to have something published that governments don't want published," Young said Saturday in an interview, noting that he does not verify the authenticity of what he publishes. "We put it up and let people tell us if it's a spoof or if it's genuine."
CIA spokesman
Bill Harlow wouldn't comment on the documents, but an unnamed senior intelligence official quoted in The Washington Post's Sunday editions said official visitors from the Japanese agency were authorized to receive the secret briefing at CIA headquarters in June 1998.
"Public disclosure of that information is troubling," the official said. "In terms of the information (in the briefing), it is not insignificant. We're always concerned when classified information is disclosed publicly."
The CIA briefing materials, described as presented by Charles E. Allen, the assistant director of central intelligence for collection, say that the number of people working for the National Foreign Intelligence Program, encompassing all civilian and military foreign intelligence activity, fell by more than 20 percent - 20,559 employees - between 1991 and 1998.
Allen's calling card, including his home telephone number, is part of the materials. Allen could not be reached immediately for comment.
Young has also posted a file obtained from the same source that shows the names, birth dates and titles of hundreds of employees of Japan's equivalent of the FBI, the Public Security Investigation Agency.
Young said he was contacted Thursday by two FBI agents from the New York field office who passed along a request from the Japanese Ministry of Justice that he remove the lists of agents from his site. Young said he refused the request and was told to expect direct contact from the Japanese government.
FBI headquarters spokeswoman Julie Miller said she wasn't familiar with Young or his Web site. James Margolin, FBI spokesman for the New York office, was not immediately available for comment.

米中央情報局（ＣＩＡ）がスパイ活動の概要などについて作成した秘密資料が、インターネットの個人ホームページ（ＨＰ）に掲載されていることが２３日、分かった。資料は、１９９８年にＣＩＡ本部を訪れた日本の公安調査庁関係者のために作られたもので、別に同庁職員数百人分の個人情報も公開されているため、日本政府はＨＰ作成者に掲載をやめるように要請している。
このＨＰを作成したのは、ジョン・ヤングさん（６４）というニューヨーク在住の建築家で、９６年からＨＰ上に情報活動などに関する政府文書を掲載している。今年６月には、１９５３年にＣＩＡ主導で進められたイランのクーデターの全貌を記した文書を掲載した。この文書は、先にニューヨーク・タイムズが内容の一部を伏せて報道している。
ヤングさんが今回掲載した文書の内容は、外国機関によるスパイ活動を監視する米政府の計画が、９１年から９８年にかけて２０％以上も減員されたことが中心。また、資料を作成した人物の自宅電話番号も含まれているほか、同資料とは別に日本の公安調査庁職員数百人分の名前、肩書き、生年月日も掲載されている。
これらの情報の信憑性について、ＣＩＡは公式にコメントしていないが、あるＣＩＡ関係者は、ワシントンポスト紙に対し、９８年の６月に公安調査庁職員にそうした資料が渡っていることを認めている。
ヤングさんは、こうした情報を日本の匿名の人物から電子メールで受け取ったと話している。２０日には、情報の掲載をやめるようにという日本の法務省の要請がＦＢＩ職員を通してヤングさんに届いたが、ヤングさんはこれを拒否。日本政府から直接要請があれば、聞く用意があるとしている。

オーストラリア・タスマニア州のローンセストン市営動物園にいるニホンザルが、人間にとって危険なウイルスに感染していることがこのほど分かった。同市で対策を検討しているが、最悪の場合は、処分も選択肢になるとしている。同市は、８月の初めごろまでには結論を出す予定だ。
ニホンザルは、１９８１年に姉妹都市の大阪府池田市から贈られ、子供たちをはじめとする入園者の人気者だ。池田市には小型のカンガルーであるワラビーが贈られている。

九州・沖縄サミット（主要国首脳会議）では、朝鮮民
主主義人民共和国（北朝鮮）が「陰の主役」となった。
ロシアのプーチン大統領が直前に金正日総書記と会談
し、「衛星打ち上げを支援してくれるなら、ミサイル実
験をやめる用意がある」との発言を引き出して沖縄に乗
り込んだからだ。ロシア側には、北朝鮮のミサイルの脅
威を前提とする米国の本土ミサイル防衛（ＮＭＤ）を揺
さぶる狙いがあった。ロシアが北朝鮮の声を代弁するか
のような役割を演じたことで、今後はＮＭＤ計画に批判
的な欧州各国も巻き込んで複雑な構図となりそうだ。そ
の中で議長国の日本は朝鮮半島に関する声明で、「安全
保障上の懸念」を主要８カ国（Ｇ８）で共有することに
何とかこぎつけた。
「封じ込めるのではなく、窓を開けさせなければなら
ない」。Ｇ８首脳が最初にテーブルを囲んだ２１日の夕
食会。初参加のプーチン大統領は金総書記との会談の説
明を始め、「ミサイル脅威論」を掲げてＮＭＤ開発を進
める米国をけん制した。
プーチン大統領はこれに先立つクリントン米大統領と
の会談で、北朝鮮の長距離ミサイル開発を凍結させるた
め、衛星打ち上げへの協力を米ロを含む国際的枠組みで
進める計画まで提案してみせた。
だが、ロ朝首脳会談をめぐるロシア側の説明はそのつ
ど微妙に食い違った。クリントン大統領は２２日の日米
首脳会談で「（ロシアの説明だけでは）内容がはっきり
しない」といら立ちをみせた。河野洋平外相も同日、ロ
シアのイワノフ外相に急きょ会談を求め、確認を急い
だ。
イワノフ外相は「北朝鮮は自分の領土からの衛星打ち
上げ技術の提供は要求していない」と記者団に語り、ロ
朝間で第三国からの打ち上げ話が進んでいることを明か
したが、金総書記の真意は不明のままだ。
日本政府はミサイル問題や拉致問題を念頭に、北朝鮮
に安全保障や人道上の問題への建設的な対応を期待する
特別声明を採択することに主眼を置いていた。その目的
は達したものの、サミットを通じ、「金総書記カード」
を握るロシアに振り回された。
河野外相は２６日、東南アジア諸国連合（ＡＳＥＡ
Ｎ）地域フォーラム（ＡＲＦ）の機会を使って、北朝鮮
の白南淳外相との初会談に臨む。ここで８月中の国交正

In the skies over White Sands Missile Range, N.M.,
Saturday, the Patriot missile program passed a
critical test,
U.S. Army officials said. An upgraded
Patriot missile successfully intercepted and
destroyed a target drone that was configured like a
cruise missile, said Army Col. Jed Sheehan, Patriot
project manager.
The Patriot missile faced several hurdles in the test,
Sheehan said. The target was small, fast and flying at
a low altitude. The mountains of New Mexico created a
pattern of cluttered radar returns, which also proved
a challenge for Patriot operators.
''It still intercepted the target,'' said Sheehan in a
telephone interview from New Mexico.

The Patriot program is managed by the Ballistic
Missile Defense Organization in Washington, D.C., and
executed by the Army Program Executive Office for
Air and Missile Defense in Huntsville - where Sheehan
works - and the Army Patriot Project Office in
Huntsville.
Saturday's test is part of the Patriot Advanced
Capability-3 upgrade program, or PAC-3. The missile
has been through two major upgrades in the past 10
years since the program's success in the Persian Gulf
War. The Patriot has been fielded with U.S. forces
since 1985.
''This test is the first time we have fired on an
'air-breathing' target like a cruise missile. It was
very successful,'' Sheehan said. ''The Patriot is
designed to destroy (theater ballistic missiles), and
the cruise missile is part of that threat.''
The Army took an MQM-107 ''Streaker'' drone and
configured it to represent an enemy cruise missile.
Cruise missiles use jet engines, similar to aircraft,
which suck air through an intake and use it for power.
Sheehan said the cruise missile threat is ''sort of like
the poor man's air force. A country can use these a lot
more effectively and cheaper than manned aircraft.''
A single cruise missile costs about $1 million, while
advanced aircraft range from $30 million to $50
million per unit. Military planners say they're
concerned that the falling costs of cruise missiles
will make them readily available to countries th
at
threaten U.S. interests in the future.
The improved Patriot uses a ''hit-to-kill'' technology,
in which the missile actually strikes the target in
order to destroy it. ''The older missiles have an
explosive warhead which gets close to a target and
then explodes in order to destroy it. The PAC-3 will
actually strike the target and use the force of impact
to destroy it,'' Sheehan said.
Along with the strike force, PAC-3 missiles have a
''lethality enhancer'' composed of several metal rings
that surround the outside of the front part of the
missile. A small explosive charge expands these rings
just before a Patriot hits its target.
''It's sort of like a shotgun blast. They scatter and
help to destroy a small target like the cruise
missile,'' Sheehan said.
The Patriot system of today is an improvement over
the one used to protect allied forces in the Gulf War.
''We've improved Patriot a couple of times since the
Gulf War, but the PAC-3 is a quantum leap over those,
too,'' Sheehan said.
The colonel said the hit-to-kill technology is the
main improvement to the Patriot. This contributes to
the system's reliability to destroy a target, or for
several missiles to engage several targets.
The PAC-3 missile successfully completed five
missions before Saturday's test. The first two PAC-3
developmental test missions did not involve targets
but were structured to check critical systems and
missile performance before conducting target
intercept flight tests.
A test of the missile's seeker occurred March 15,
1999, and an intercept of the target was achieved. On
Sept. 16 a second intercept test was successful. The
most recent test, conducted Feb. 5, was a successful
intercept of a Hera ballistic missile target. The
remaining PAC-3 tests will consist of 12 PAC-3
missiles intercepting various classes of targets.
Sheehan said the test program was about one-third
complete. ''If it remains on time, then it will be
completed by September 2001.''
The improved missiles should be fielded shortly after
that d
ate, the colonel said. The Army now has one test
battalion outfitted with the improved Patriot ground
equipment. A second battalion is slated to be equipped
with the ground equipment, Sheehan said. ''The
missiles are in a low rate of production, too. We have
about 55 on order.''
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control of Dallas is
the prime contractor for the missile segment of the
Patriot program. The seeker is produced by Boeing Co.
in Huntsville. Raytheon Systems Co., the Patriot
system's prime contractor, is the system integrator
for the PAC-3 missile segment.

政府の原子力委員会（委員長、大島理森・科学技術庁
長官）の「長期計画（長計）策定会議」は２４日、２０
０１年度以降の原子力政策の基本方針を示す報告書の素
案を固めた。度重なる原子力事故やトラブルで、原子力
発電や核燃料サイクル政策を推進することに懸念を抱く
国民が多くなったことなど情勢変化を認め、各計画の達
成目標時期を示すのをやめた。研究開発以外の原子力利
用は民間の意欲や自主性によって推進することを強調、
国策としての枠組みを緩めた。
素案は、原子力利用での国の役割について、基本方針
や安全ルールづくり、基礎的・基盤的な研究開発などに
責任を持つとした。
また、使用済み核燃料を再処理する核燃料サイクルの
推進を国の基本的考えとし、高速増殖炉を中心とするサ
イクル技術の研究開発を着実に進めるというこれまでの
政策を踏襲した。
しかし、基幹電源である原発の今後の新設・増設目標
は示さず、「電源構成に占める原発の割合を適切なレベ
ルに維持する」とし、高速増殖炉の実用化計画について
も「時期を含め柔軟に対応していく」と述べるにとどま
った。
長計は、５―６年ごとに改定され、前回は１９９４年
に策定された。その後、福井県敦賀市の高速増殖原型炉
「もんじゅ」の事故や、茨城県東海村の民間ウラン加工
施設で臨界事故が起きるなど、原子力施設での事故が相
次ぎ、長計を柱とする国の原子力政策が大きく揺らいで
いた。
同会議はこの素案をたたき台にして８月の会合で報告
書案をまとめる予定だが、委員からは「具体的な政策提
言が足りない」との声も上がっている。(13:31)

朝鮮民主主義人民共和国（北朝鮮）の金正日（キムジョンイル）総書記の「条件付きミサイル実験停止」発言について、米露両国は九州・沖縄サミットの場で真意の分析を続け、朝鮮半島情勢に関して「米露協調態勢」が進行している。米国は北朝鮮との直接協議でも、この発言を取り上げる方針だが、従来の協議レベルでは総書記の真意は探りにくい。このため総書記発言は、米国との閣僚級、首脳級対話を狙う「つり球」との見方も強い。
イワノフ露外相によると、総書記はプーチン大統領に「年１、２回行う人工衛星発射実験に国際社会の協力が得られれば、弾道ミサイル実験を停止する用意がある」と語った。２１日の米露首脳会談で、クリントン大統領は「調査すべき発言だが、詳細を知りたい」と述べ、米露両国はサミット開催中、発言の真意を探る実務協議を進めている。
米国にとって発言はある意味で歓迎すべきだが、日本を震かんさせた１９９８年のテポドン発射は、北朝鮮によれば「衛星打ち上げ」だった。北朝鮮が使う衛星を他国が打ち上げるならともかく、北朝鮮領土内での打ち上げ実験を技術支援することはできない、というのが米国の立場だ。
しかも、衛星打ち上げとミサイル開発は技術的に重なる部分が多く、衛星開発への協力は、ミサイル開発支援につながりかねない。疑問を解消するには北朝鮮との直接協議が必要だが、国務次官補レベルの米朝ミサイル協議では、総書記の意向は探りにくく、より高い地位の北朝鮮高官と話し合う必要がある。
２７日から開かれる東南アジア諸国連（ＡＳＥＡＮ）地域フォーラム（ＡＲＦ）では、オルブライト米国務長官と白南淳（ペクナムスン）北朝鮮外相の会談も予想される。９月の国連ミレニアム・サミットには、北朝鮮の金永南（キムヨンナム）最高人民会議常任委員長が出席の見込みで、クリントン大統領との会談が実現するかどうかが焦点だ。
元首格の金常任委員長とクリントン大統領の首脳級会談の可能性は、最近ロシアのマスコミが報じ、国務省は「その計画はない」としていた。しかし、初の米朝外相会談が実現すれば、「次のレベル」に向けた弾みが付くのは確実で、首脳級会談の可能性も無視できないのが実情だ。 【布施 広】

これに関しては、もっともだとは思いますが、
ほかにこれといった情報源もないんです。とくに日本語で海外時事ニュース。
自分ですべて検証するのも大変ですし、事実関係などは通信社も活用させてもらってます。
★阿修羅♪さんのところやその他の陰謀論系ＨＰなどのおかげで、
最近は、大マスコミにおけるニュースの扱いの大小は気にならなくなりました。
自分で重要だと思うものは小さな記事でも選択して読んでいるだけです。
もちろん、ニュースをすべて盲信しているわけではありません。（^_^）
産経ですが、独自の視点は評価するべきところもないわけではありませんが、
個人的には、「左の朝日、右の産経」。
所詮は両翼、両建てではないかという印象です。
