Youtubeに寄せられたコメントを読むと、いろんな国の人たち、特に若い人たちが、この映画を非常にストレートに受けとめてくれていることに驚かされる。

オレはもう初老といっていい歳だけども、「戦争」をどのくらい理解しているかというと、この映画を見てコメントした若い人たちとそれほど違いませんな。

たとえば、イラクやパレスチナの子供よりも戦争を知らんのですよ。当たり前のことだけど・・・（笑）戦争をカイマミルということと、当事者としてその国と運命を共にすることは、全く別の事なのですな。

I had to sing this for a final in my choir class last semester. This was by far one of the hardest songs to perform for me as a singer because try as I may, I could not seperate this song from the movie. No sooner than I sang the final note in the song in front of everyone in the class did I burst into tears.

I've watched this film three times now; once by myself, once with my mom, and once with my ex-girlfriend. I cried each time even though I totally knew what to expect. I might have choked up over maybe 2-3 films in my life that I can recall, but none had me sobbing like this one. Not just at the inhumanity of war and the innocent lives it destroys, but at what this film punctuated even more strongly, which is society's indifference to each other.

I can understand that "Grave of Fireflies" is a heart core devastating sad story. But it also reflects a very sad truth; THIS happened and still happens all over the world. And it's our own responsibility to look at it and make a difference on the decisions that we make, the actions that make a difference; for real. And it can be as small as being actually nice to someone that makes a BIG change. Be honest and truthful, the world can be helped even by a little action if we take responsibility.
