We are an executive committee of “Nobel Peace Prize for Article 9”. We are engaged in signature-collecting campaigns asking to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Japanese citizens who have continued maintaining the pacifist constitution, Article 9 in particular, up until present, in order to spread the pacifist constitution in all the countries of the world. Article 9 stipulates renunciation of war and not maintaining military forces. We think that it is the irreplaceable precious treasure, the point where the cognition of humankind has arrived, and the heritage that should be handed down to posterity, which was born in result of the misery of the wars and the immeasurable sacrifice. However, the Japanese Constitution is currently under the threat of being revised. For 68 years after the war, because of Article 9, we, Japanese citizens, have never waged any wars and never killed and been killed in wars. Though other countries have tended to settle problems by use of force, we have continued maintaining Article 9, with repentance for and pain of the past war, as well as wish for happiness and peace in the world. We think that Article 9 will be able to contribute to security and peace of the world which has repeated wars. To maintain Article 9 is will of many Japanese citizens. Since the Japanese Constitution was made, Japanese citizens have never changed it. Moreover, many Japanese citizens have been committed to various movements and actions, in order to maintain and substantiate Article 9. The EU was awarded Nobel Peace Prize as an organization. Thus, we think it is possible that Japanese citizens as an organization, who have continued maintaining the pacifist constitution stipulating thorough renunciation of war, would be awarded it, similarly. In order to nominate for the candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, it is necessary that qualified nominators according to the attached document submit nominations to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, by February 1 every year. Although as of December 25, 2013, we have one person and one group as our nominators, we would like to have more and more nominators. If many nominators explain from their own positions or perspectives why Japanese citizens are worthy of Nobel Peace Prize, we will come close to realization of our being awarded it. THE CONSTITUTION OF JAPAN We, the Japanese people, acting through our duly elected representatives in the National Diet, determined that we shall secure for ourselves and our posterity the fruits of peaceful cooperation with all nations and the blessings of liberty throughout this land, and resolved that never again shall we be visited with the horrors of war through the action of government, do proclaim that sovereign power resides with the people and do firmly establish this Constitution. Government is a sacred trust of the people, the authority for which is derived from the people, the powers of which are exercised by the representatives of the people, and the benefits of which are enjoyed by the people. This is a universal principle of mankind upon which this Constitution is founded. We reject and revoke all constitutions, laws, ordinances, and rescripts in conflict herewith. We, the Japanese people, desire peace for all time and are deeply conscious of the high ideals controlling human relationship, and we have determined to preserve our security and existence, trusting in the justice and faith of the peace-loving peoples of the world. We desire to occupy an honored place in an international society striving for the preservation of peace, and the banishment of tyranny and slavery, oppression and intolerance for all time from the earth. We recognize that all peoples of the world have the right to live in peace, free from fear and want.
We believe that no nation is responsible to itself alone, but that laws of political morality are universal; and that obedience to such laws is incumbent upon all nations who would sustain their own sovereignty and justify their sovereign relationship with other nations.
