Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.

Civilians reported killed as US launches major assault near as-Saqlawiyah north of al-Fallujah Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 21:09pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Aswat al-‘Iraq news agency, which was set up by Reuters and the U.N. Development Agency, reported that Iraqi puppet police forces supported by US occupation troops had launched a large-scale offensive on the agricultural areas located to the north of as-Saqlawiyah − which is 17km north of al-Fallujah. Deaths and injuries are reported.

Aswat al-‘Iraq reported a source in the puppet police in as-Saqlawiyah who asked not to be identified as saying that hundreds of puppet police and US Marines assaulted the area of ash-Shayhah (10km east of as-Saqlawiyah), az-Zagharid (4km northwest of as-Saqlawiyah) Abu Sudayrah (2km north of as-Saqlawiyah) early Saturday. The announced aim of the offensive was to attack Iraqi Resistance fighters said to be in the area.

The source said that US Paratroopers carried out numerous airborne landings in the areas where they waged long battles with Resistance fighters − particularly in the az-Zagharid area.

The source said that the fighting was still underway Saturday evening and that preliminary reports indicated that four puppet policemen had been wounded in the assault. US warplanes blasted several houses that the Americans claimed were “hideouts” for Iraqi Resistance fighters. A number of deaths and injuries were reported.

The source said that the Americans in fact had closed off the areas of as-Saqlawiyah and al-Karmah − both in the vicinity of al-Fallujah, which is 60km west of Baghdad − for three days.

For their part, residents of az-Zagharid told Aswat al-‘Iraq that fierce battles were raging in their area between Resistance men and US troops accompanied by their puppet police allies. One witness said that several civilians had been killed in the course of the fighting. As of the time of reporting the Americans had issued no official announcement regarding the fighting.

Hit.

US forces carrying out mass raids, arrests in Hit.

In a dispatch posted at 12:40pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US forces accompanied by the puppet “Iraqi National Guard” allies have been carrying out a campaign of raids, searches, and arrests in the city of Hit, 180km northwest of Baghdad, for several days.

The AMSI correspondent in the area reported that the Americans and their allies have been raiding houses in the ad-Dawwarah area of Hit, smashing furniture, ransacking personal belongings, and attacking residents. About 200 people have been arrested in the sweep.

The city of Hit is suffering from a severe shortage of fuel and other services, which have been cut off by the occupation authorities on the pretext that there are Iraqi Resistance fighters in the city.

Al-Fallujah.

American forces reject appeal to lift curfew, blockade imposed on al-Fallujah three months ago.

In a dispatch posted on its website Saturday, Quds Press reported that US forces refused to raise the siege they have imposed on the city of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad, and its accompanying ban on motor and bicycle traffic.

Shaykh Walid al-‘Isawi, a local notable and Imam in al-Fallujah told Quds Press that the US troops rejected an appeal from the people of the city in which they sought the lifting of the blockade and permission to drive their cars and other vehicles and public conveyances in and out of the city and on the streets inside al-Fallujah.

The Americans told the al-Fallujah notables that the appeal might be discussed at the beginning of next year if “good security” had been established by that time.

Shaykh al-‘Isawi said that the American army told them that the lockdown of al-Fallujah had protected the lives of US troops and that the Americans are therefore thinking of banning traffic and locking down areas in Baghdad where there is mass rejection of the American occupation.

The US forces imposed the blockade and ban on vehicles in al-Fallujah about three months ago. The measure greatly worsened the living conditions for residents of the city. Then about a month after the blockade was imposed, the Amerians also imposed a ban on all bicycles and motorcycles, following an attack by a booby-trapped cycle on US troops.

Baghdad.

Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder spree continues: 11 more bodies discovered dumped in various parts of Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 12:40am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the Iraqi puppet police recovered the bodies of 11 more victims of sectarian murder that had been dumped in Baghdad.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet “Interior Ministry” as saying that the bodies exhibited signs of torture − a trade mark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the puppet regime security forces, most of whose members are drawn from those sectarian militias.

Baghdad curfew ends early Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 2:39pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi puppet regime lifted its ban on motor traffic and other means of transportation that it had imposed three days ago in order to allow Shi‘i pilgrims to range through the streets unimpeded in honor of a religious holiday. The curfew ended at 5am local time Saturday morning.

Every year thousands of Shi‘ah make a pilgrimage to the tomb of their Imam Musa al-Kazim on the anniversary of his death.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that life was returning to “normal” in the first hours of Saturday as traffic took to the streets and shops reopened despite the continued heavy presence of troops and police.

Lawyer for “Legal Committee” admits: 67,000 prisoners being held by US forces, puppet regime.

In a dispatch posted at 10:27am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Jasim al-Bahadili, a lawyer who is the chairman of the legal support committee for the plan to “impose legality,” announced Saturday that there are 31,000 prisoners in prisons run by the puppet “Iraqi government.” He said that there abuses in the prisons, such as locking new prisoners in with hardened ones, and jailing women who are picked up in the numerous nighttime raids in facilities not specifically for women.

On another occasion, al-Bahadili had announced that the number of prisoners being held by the US occupation forces is 36,000 − bringing the total number of prisoners in Iraq to 67,000.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Samarra’.

US helicopter rockets minibus carrying electricity workers near Samarra’, killing eight.

In a dispatch posted at 1:31pm Baghdad time Saturday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a US helicopter gun ship attacked a team of electric power workers who were trying to extend the electricity grid from the area of al-Jalisiyah, 12km south of Samarra’, to the neighboring area of al-Mu‘tasim.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police in Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad, as saying that the US helicopter fired a rocket at the minibus carrying the 10 electrical workers, killing eight of them and severely wounding two more. As of the time of reporting, the American command had issued no statement regarding the unexplained attack.

Tikrit.

US admits death of American soldier in Tirkit.

In a dispatch posted at 6:17pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military admitted on Saturday that one more of its troops had been killed in the city of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an American announcement said that an investigation was under way into the death, which it said was due to “non-combat” circumstances.

Diyala Province.
Ba‘qubah.

Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder spree in Diyala Province: 16 more bodies discovered.

In a dispatch posted at 12:40am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the Iraqi puppet police recovered the bodies of 16 more murder victims in Diyala Province.

AMSI reported a source in the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry” as saying that the bodies showed signs of torture, a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed security forces most of whose members are drawn from those sectarian militias. The source said that the bodies were taken to Ba‘qubah General Hospital in the provincial capital, 65km northeast of Baghdad, for identification.

Babil Province.

In a dispatch posted at 1:03pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters wounded several puppet policemen in a pre-dawn raid in the town of al-Mahawil, 65km south of Baghdad.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet “Scorpion Brigade” troops as saying that armed men opened fire on them at 4am local time Saturday morning, wounding one puppet soldier in the leg. He was hospitalized.

Al-Iskandariyah.

Bomb targets house in al-Iskandariyah.

In a dispatch posted at 1:03pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a bomb exploded by a house of a resident of al-Iskandariyah, 40km south of Baghdad, who works for the Mechanical Industry Company in the city.

The AMSI reported that the blast injured two residents in the house and inflicted structural damage.

Al-Qadisiyah Province.
Ad-Diwaniyah.

Ten bombs decimate motorcade in ad-Diwaniyah Saturday, killing governor and puppet police chief of ad-Diwaniyah Province.

In a dispatch posted at 6:27pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a series of bombs ripped through the motorcade of the puppet “Governor” of al-Qadisiyah Province on Saturday, killing the puppet “Governor” and the chief of the provincial puppet police. Dozens of others were wounded in the multiple bomb attack which took place in ad-Diwaniyah, 180km south of Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the puppet regime’s director of security for al-Qadisiyah Province is saying: “More than 10 bombs went off by the motorcade of the governor and the provincial police chief as they were returning from attending a funeral in the ‘Afak district (30km south of ad-Diwaniyah), killing the governor, Khalil Jalil Hamzah; and the police chief, Major General Khalid Hasan; and three of their companions and wounding about 10 other people.”

Dr. Hamid Ja‘‘ati, the city health director, daid that the body of the governor and puppet police chief were recovered in addition to the remains of three of their companions. Six other companions of the officials were taken to hospitals − two of them in very critical condition.

The US-backed puppet authorities in ad-Diwaniyah imposed a curfew beginning at 7pm local time Saturday until further notice following the spectacular attack.

The puppet “Governor,” Khalil Jalil Hamzah, was a member of the pro-American Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, the main Shi‘i sectarian party whose 30,000-man Badr Brigade armed wing took part in the invasion and occupation of Iraq alongside US troops.

Officer in puppet police intelligence gunned down in ad-Diwaniyah.

In a dispatch posted at 1:03pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that armed men shot and killed an officer in the puppet police intelligence division in ad-Diwaniyah, 180km south of Baghdad, on Friday night.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security forces as saying that the armed men shot and killed Colonel Kamil Ku‘aym as he was coming out of his house, killing him instantly. In a dispatch posted at 1:03pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a bomb killed an official in the Shi‘i sectarian Islamic Action Organization in ad-Diwaniyah Province on Friday evening.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet security forces as saying that the bomb went off by the motorcade of Natiq ‘Abd az-Zahrah as he was on his way to the city of an-Najaf.

The Shi‘i sectarian “Islamic Action Organization,” which was founded by Shi‘i clerics in Karbala’ in 1960, is best known for its failed attempt to assassinate Iraqi Deputy Premier Tariq Aziz on 1 April 1980.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

British military facilities in al-Basrah come under fire.

In a dispatch posted at 12:53pm Baghdad time midday Saturday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the British-occupied facilities in al-Basrah had come under several attacks in the previous 24 hours.

The AMSI reported that the British announced Saturday that the British headquarters had come under indirect fire, but that all the shells had landed outside the headquarters and camps and no losses or damage resulted.

Fierce tribal fighting rages near al-Basrah Friday, Saturday.

In a dispatch posted at 9:19am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the al-Qurnah area north of al-Basrah witnessed the outbreak of fierce fighting between the Bani Malik and al-Furayjat tribes following the killing of the son of the Shaykh of the Bani Malik on Friday by unknown armed men.

The AMSI reported that five people were killed and 20 more wounded in the fighting according to initial figures. The clashes also caused the southern city to be cut off from the rest of the country.

Eyewitnesses in the area said that violent fighting with light and medium weapons broke out on Friday evening after the killing of Wisam Sabah ‘Irmish, 20, of the Bani Malik. The Bani Malik blamed the al-Furajat for the murder and fighting broke out between the tribes later in the day when members of the Bani Mali attacked the headquarters of the Islamic Da‘wah Party − the Shi ‘ sectarian party of which the American-installed Iraqi “Prime Minister,” Nuri al-Maliki, is a leader. The Bani Malik also attacked the offices of the “Movement of the Lord of the Islamic Martyrs” − an organization run by the “Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council” − the Shi‘i sectarian faction run by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim whose 30,000-man Badr Brigade militia took part in the US invasion and occupation of Iraq. Guards at the two party headquarters left their posts and fled the scene when the Bani Malik tribesment attacked, as did the puppet police.

Witnesses reported that the al-Basrah security forces did not intervene to stop the attacks and neither did the British attack helicopters that over flew the area. The Bani Malik tribal fighters set up road blocks along the highway from al-Qurnah to al-Basrah − a road linking al-Basrah with the rest of the country. The move by the Bani Malik thereby effectively cut the southern city off from the rest of the country.

AMSI noted that tribal fighting is a frequent occurrence in the area north of al-Basrah and that the city is often isolated from the rest of the country when the tribes in the largely Shi‘i region take up arms against each other.
