US admits death of American Marine in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 9:55pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the US had admitted that one more of its Marines had been killed in eastern Baghdad.

The AMSI reported that in keeping with the standard US practice of concealing facts about its losses in Iraq, the American statement failed to provide any further details of the death.

Iraqi cameraman, driver for Reuters killed in eastern Baghdad Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 5:53pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the British news agency Reuters had announced that one of its cameramen and an Iraqi driver were killed in Baghdad on Thursday.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported Reuters as saying that cameraman Nimr Nur ad-Din, 22, and driver Sa‘id Shammagh, 40, were killed in eastern Baghdad amidst clashes between US troops and armed men in the area. Reuters failed to indicated the cause of their deaths but said that witnesses spoke of an explosion in the area, while the Iraqi puppet police said that it was likely that an American air attack or a mortar round had been the cause.

US soldier commits suicide in Baghdad’s al-A‘zamiyah district Wednesday.

In a dispatch posted at 12:02pm Baghdad time midday Thursday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an American soldier committed suicide in the walled off Baghdad district of al-A‘zamiyah on Wednesday after taking part in a US military operation.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that a US soldier shot him self on Siham al-Mutawalli Street in al-A‘zamiyah after finishing a campaign of searches in one of the residential buildings there. Residents who witnessed the soldier’s action do not know what prompted the suicide.

US forces sealed off the entrances and exits to al-A‘zamiyah early Wednesday morning and then launched raids and searches throughout the district in what reportedly was a hunt for weapons.

US troops, puppet allies carrying out mass arbitrary arrests in al-‘Amiriyah Thursday morning.

In a bulletin posted at 10:30am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US occupation troops accompanied by the puppet “Iraqi National Guard” allies and a collaborationist puppet unit dubbed the “Revolutionaries of al-‘Amiriyah” have poured into the streets of the al-‘Amiriyah district and begun making mass arbitrary arrests of youth and students.

The AMSI reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Americans and their stooges deployed in the area at 9:30am local time and were still there at the time of reporting.

They were randomly arresting anyone they found in the streets, even pulling one young man away who had been walking with his wife, according to witnesses. The Americans and their collaborator allies arrested a 14-year-old boy from in front of his house.

The reason for the sudden assault on the district was unknown, but for more than one month, the Americans have had al-‘Amiriyah blockaded and sealed off from the outside world because of Resistance attacks on US forces. Those attacks, in turn, had been sparked by repeated atrocities committed by the Americans and their puppet allies against the local residents, such as the killing of a woman by an American sniper.

US troops blow up building housing the newspaper run by the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq − once again demonstrating America’s lack of respect for freedom of expression and the press.

In a dispatch posted at 10:15am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that on Wednesday, US occupation forces destroyed the al-A‘zamiyah Commercial Association building that housed the offices of the al-Basa’ir newspaper.

The AMSI reported residents of the neighborhood as saying that a powerful explosion shook the area during the night and that whole sections of the building were demolished.

The witnesses added that US troops and their puppet regime allies had searched and closed off the building and then blew it up. By blowing up the building the Americans also heavily damaged the offices of the al-Basa’ir newspaper, the mouthpiece of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq.

AMSI noted that starting Wednesday, US forces sealed off al-A‘zamiyah, a predominantly Sunni district in Baghdad that the Americans had already walled off from the rest of the city several weeks earlier.

Ad-Dawr.

Resistance attack on checkpoint in ad-Dawr leaves four puppet policemen and soldiers dead Thursday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 11:02pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a checkpoint manned by puppet police near a housing complex in ad-Dawr, 150km north of Baghdad on Thursday afternoon.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the Resistance men sped towards the checkpoint in a car and unleashed a hail of gunfire, killing the four puppet policemen and puppet army troops who were present at the checkpoint were killed.

The AMSI reported Shaykh Hazbar al-Aswadi, the chief of the al-Bu Aswad tribe in Samarra’, as saying on Thursday: “American helicopters blasted our village south of Samarra’ late last night, targeting a number of houses and farms. The raid killed four villagers and wounded an as-yet undetermined number of others.”

Al-Aswadi said: “US forces used two Medevac helicopters to take the wounded people away with them to an unknown destination. But many of the houses in the village have been damaged as a result of the bombardment.”

As of the time of reporting, the US military had not issued any statement on the attack.

Ad-Dulu‘iyah.

US troops raid homes in ad-Dulu‘iyah early Thursday, capturing 10 local men.

In a dispatch posted at 8:28pm Baghdad time Thursday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US forces carried out an airborne landing in the al-Jabbur area of ad-Dulu ‘iyah, about 90km north of Baghdad, early Thursday morning.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police, who asked not to be identified, as saying that the Americans raided three houses in al-Jabbur and captured 10 local men in their attack. The Americans led the 10 off to one of their nearby bases.

The source told AMSI that six of the people abducted by the Americans were members of one family − the head of the household and five of his children. The other four people were residents of the two other houses attacked by the US troops. One of those was an elderly man. The source said that the reason for the American raid was still unknown.

The US forces had carried out a raid in ad-Dulu‘iyah two days earlier and also bombarded one local home, killing two women and severely wounding four children.

Dhi Qar Province.
An-Nasiriyah.

US company’s water project in an-Nasiriyah blasted by mortars.

In a dispatch posted at 1:45pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that mortar shells blasted into the site of a massive water treatment plant project being built by the US company Fluor in the southern Iraqi city of an-Nasiriyah.

The AMSI reported an Iraqi engineer who works for the US company as saying that mortar shells struck the project site, spreading terror among the foreign engineers, who rushed out of the area and into the US base located to the west of the city.

The Iraqi engineer said that as they were fleeing to the US base, a bomb went off along the road between an-Nasiriyah and the al-Gharraf area, killing one Iraqi translator.

Witnesses said that a group of armed men assaulted the Fluor Company work site in addition to blasting it with mortar shells.

Sources reported that the American company officials gave the workers at the project three days off in the hope that within that time the US military will have taken the situation at the project site under its control.

In a dispatch posted at 10:02pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that another prisoner being held in the US prison Camp Bucca in Umm Qasr near al-Basrah in southern Iraq had died on Thursday.

The AMSI reported that the Americans claimed that the prisoner apparently died from wounds received during a fight with other prisoners. The US announcement failed to indicate the name or nationality of the deceased prisoner.
