Abu Ghurayb.
US-backed sectarian troops arrest hundreds in Abu Ghurayb.
In a dispatch posted at 9:29pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that for four days the puppet “al-Muthanna Brigade” had been carrying out a campaign of mass raids and arrests in the middle of the Abu Ghurayb district, about 30km west of Baghdad.
The AMSI reported that the puppet troops had arbitrarily arrested hundreds of local residents, in particular youths, aiming at getting as large a number as possible regardless of age.
Local residents in Abu Ghurayb had been demanding that the al-Muthanna Brigade be transferred out of their area, as it is particularly sectarian in its approach, hurling sectarian curses and threats at the Sunni population, storming into the local houses with marked violence and hostility, and then subjecting families and women to humiliation. Rage is mounting among the local population, the AMSI correspondent reported.
Baghdad.
Dozens of mortar shells rain down on “Green Zone” in ferocious mortar barrage Tuesday, leaving three reported dead, 23 more wounded.
In a dispatch posted at 10:35pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that more than 30 mortar shells blasted into the top-security district set up by the Americans around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad − the area that the US occupiers have dubbed the “Green Zone.”
Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported puppet police sources as saying that 40 mortar rounds and rockets had slammed into the four-square-mile American “safe zone.”
The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that at least three people were killed and another 23 wounded in the ferocious afternoon attack on the “Green Zone” that began at about 4pm and lasted until 4:15pm local time. Some witnesses said that most of the shells landed near the offices of puppet “Prime Minister” Nuri al-Maliki.
In a dispatch posted at 8:06pm Makkah time Tuesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam quoted Reuters as saying that two of the dead were Iraqi collaborators and one a Filipino.
AMSI reported that plumes of smoke billowed into the sky as the shells struck home, but American officials clung to their policy of concealing facts regarding losses in Iraq. In a dispatch posted at 4:50pm Makkah time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported an official from the US embassy inside the “Zone” as telling the media that he “could not comment” on whether the American embassy had been hit or whether there had been any dead or wounded.
Sectarian torture, murder spree continues: 26 more tortured bodies found dumped in Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted on its website Tuesday, Quds Press reported that the Iraqi puppet police had recovered the bodies of 26 more Iraqi victims of sectarian murder dumped in various parts of Baghdad.
Sources in the puppet police told Quds Press that the bodies had been bound and blindfolded and showed signs of torture, a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed puppet “security forces,” most of whose members are drawn from the sectarian militias.
Quds Press reported the source as saying that most of the bodies were found in al-Karakh in Baghdad, an area where the Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militia, which is close to the US-installed puppet regime and its security forces, is widely deployed.
With the latest batch of bodies, the number of victims of sectarian murder found in Baghdad in July has now reached 137 according to official statistics of the puppet police.
Murderous US attack that left 30 civilians dead condemned by AMSI.
In a statement posted on its website Tuesday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) denounced US occupation forces for an attack that left 40 civilians dead or wounded last Saturday.
The AMSI declared in the statement: “at a time when the American military administration claims to be trying its soldiers for their crimes in Iraq, in a brazen deception aimed at fooling the world into thinking that it is concerned with human rights, its occupation forces from time to time commit atrocious massacres of our innocent people, using weapons of massive death and destruction. Perhaps now there will be still more trials so that the US can laugh again at humanity with its vaunted justice.”
The AMSI statement continued: “American occupation warplanes struck the village of al-Hajj Munashid in the ‘Uwayrij area to the south of Baghad on Saturday night, 7 July 2007, killing about 30 people and wounding 10 more − among them women, children, and elderly persons − destroying and burning down seven homes and heavily damaging still others.”
“This terrorist crime,” the AMSI statement went on, “was committed by the occupiers amidst a studied silence and continued media blackout, and at a time when the Americans’ stooges and followers are waging battles and political struggles with each other in order to try to secure the largest possible petty gains and political offices.”
“Meanwhile,” the AMSI stated, “the American machine of blood and death and the sectarians every day reap more lives of those within their reach.”
AMSI, the highest Sunni Muslim religious authority in occupied Iraq, declared: “The Association of Muslim Scholars condemns this cowardly criminal act that reveals once again to the whole world the ugliness and hideousness of the occupation and holds it the US occupation and its current puppet government completely responsible for it.”
The AMSI concluded its statement by warning that the Iraqi people would never forget such crimes and that the perpetrators would face a reckoning for all that their hands have reaped.
