US refurbishes Iraqi railroads to try to reduce toll taken by Resistance attacks on truck convoys.
In a dispatch posted on its website Saturday, Quds Press reported that as the Americans recognize the impossibility of overcoming the relentless Iraqi Resistance attacks on their supply convoys on the roads and byways of western Iraq, they are more and more resorting to railroads as a means to keep their supply lines open.
The correspondent for Quds Press reported Muhammad al-‘Ani, the puppet General Director of Railroads in western Iraq as saying that the Americans have refurbished the old rail network in order to supply their vast “archipelago” of bases spread throughout the west and north of the country.
Al-‘Ani said that the Americans were taking to the rails in order to try to reduce the toll being taken by constant Resistance attacks on road transport that run through cities and along highways in the country. By contrast, al-‘Ani noted, the railroads run through open desert. Yet although the desert has so far proved safer for the Americans than the roadways, the US military has nevertheless been forced to establish a new network of observation posts along the remote railroad tracks in order to protect the rail lines from mines and “sabotage” as al-‘Ani described the potential Resistance attacks.
Baghdad.
Shi‘i sectarian militias together with US-backed puppet troops attack Sunni areas of Baghdad Saturday in continued effort to partition Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 9:33pm Baghdad time Saturday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that six mortar shells crashed into the al-‘Amil neighborhood of western Baghdad on Saturday afternoon in an apparent continuation of the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian offensive on the neighborhood launched Friday evening.
The AMSI correspondent in al-‘Amil reported that the pro-Iranian militias fired six heavy 120mm mortar rounds into the neighborhood around the Sunni Abu Bakr as-Siddiq Mosque in the al-Jannabiyin are of al-‘Amil. The barrage wounded a number of local residents.
Meanwhile the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia together with US-backed “Iraqi National Guard” troops armed with machine guns and rocket launchers attacked the Sunni Mosque of the Muhajirin on al-Markaz Street in the Baghdad district of al-Ghazaliyah on Saturday afternoon. Local residents seized their personal small arms and rose to defend their district. In the course of the fighting, one local resident was killed and three more of them were wounded.
The Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed puppet regime troops are carrying out attacks on Sunni districts in an attempt to “cleanse” large swathes of Baghdad and central and southern Iraq of its Sunni residents in an effort to facilitate the partition of the country along lines envisioned by Zionist and US think tanks.
The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha'aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)
The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”
The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.
Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.
Washington admits eight more Americans killed in Iraq Saturday.
In a dispatch posted at 8:38pm Makkah time Saturday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the US military had admitted that another eight American troops had been killed in Resistance attacks in Baghdad and Tikrit on Saturday.
AMSI reported that the US issued a communique´ Saturday afternoon in which it announced that an Iraqi Resistance bomb that had been planted by the side of a road in northwest Baghdad blew up near a US military vehicle, killing four American troops. The American statement added that the soldiers’ Iraqi translator, who was with them at the time, was also wounded in the attack.
In another statement issued Saturday afternoon, the Americans declared that an Iraqi Resistance bomb that had been planted by the side of a road near Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, went off by another US vehicle, killing a American airman on Saturday, AMSI reported.
In a dispatch posted at 6:30pm Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that earlier in the day the US had admitted that three of its troops had been killed in an attack in eastern Baghdad on Saturday.
Resistance bomb destroys America Abrams tank, killing US soldier in western Baghdad early Saturday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 5:45pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol to the west of Baghdad early on Saturday morning.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that a Resistance bomb went off by a US patrol, destroying an American Abrams tank killing one US crewman and wounding several more. The source said that the attack took place in the al-Jami‘ah neighborhood of western Baghdad and that the tank was seen on fire after the attack. The sources said that a short gun battle took place following the explosion.
In a dispatch posted on its website on Saturday, Quds Press reported the US military as announcing that the US military had reported arresting three Iranian agents in the Madinat ath-Thawrah section of Baghdad − a district that was nicknamed “Madinat as-Sadr” following the US invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003.
The US issued a communique´ in which it said that their troops had arrested three individuals as part of its campaign to reduce Iranian influence in occupied Iraq. The Americans said that the three were Iranian agents who had been engaged in smuggling anti-tank incendiary rockets and explosives for use against US troops and Iraqi civilians in order to incite sectarian violence.
The United States enlisted the help of the 30,000-man Iranian-trained Shi‘i sectarian Badr Brigades for its invasion of Iraq in 2003. Since then the Badr Brigades and the other main Shi‘i sectarian militia, the Jaysh al-Mahdi, have formed the backbone of the US-run security forces that prop up the puppet regime installed by the American military.
As the US, under the relentless blows of the Iraqi Resistance, increasingly seeks ways to get out of Iraq, Iran has been working through the Shi‘i sectarian militias to step into the shoes of the retreating Americans and to extend its hegemony over all or most of Iraq once the US finally leaves. Rivals for control over Iraq, the US and Iran continue to work together in support of the puppet Baghdad regime − which is dominated by Shi‘i sectarians − and in “counterinsurgency” activity against the popular Iraqi Resistance movement, which is opposed to all foreign hegemony, be it US, Zionist, or Iranian.
Irbil Province.
Irbil.
Son of puppet “Iraqi President” calls for US bases to be established in “Kurdistan” region of northern Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 10:49am Makkah time Saturday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the son of US-installed puppet “President of Iraq” Jalal Talibani had called on the United States to establish bases in the “Kurdistan” region of northern Iraq.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Qabbad Jalal Talibani, the son of Jalal Talibani and the official in charge of “Kurdish-American relations” in Washingtong told a press conference in Irbil on Friday that the Kurds welcome a US military base in Iraqi “Kurdistan,” claiming that such installations would be in the interest of the United States and of the Kurds. Qabbad said, however, that what he called the “enemies of the Kurds” would oppose the fulfillment of such plans.
Qabbad Talibani said that a US base in Iraqi “Kurdistan” would be “the best commitment by the United States” to the “protection” of the Kurds, adding that if there were US bases in the north of Iraq “no one would think of attacking or threatening” the so-called “Kurdistan” puppet state.
Qabbad described “Kurdish-American relations” at the present time as “provisional” but said that those relations had to be transformed into a “permanent and strategic” relationship, with the aid of numerous pressure groups and US companies.
He called for extending the relationship from the political field to include military and economic ties, lamenting the fact that so far the Kurds in occupied northern Iraq had been unable to convince more American companies to invest in the so-called “Kurdistan” region of the country.
The northern part of Iraq, where the population consists of a large percentage of Kurds, was torn out from the rule of Baghdad in the early 1990s when a separatist regime dominated by the pro-American Kurdish separatist parties of Jalal Talibani and Mas‘ud Barzani. Following their invasion of the country in 2003, the United States decreed that the “President” of Iraq must be a member of the Kurdish minority nationality.
For his part, the US-installed puppet “Iraqi President” Jalal Talibani himself has come out on several occasions in support of a long-term US presence in Iraq in order to preserve the rule of Talibani and the other “leaders” installed by the American occupation in 2003.
Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.
London admits another British soldier killed in al-Basrah.
In a dispatch posted at 5pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the British military had admitted that one more British soldier had died of wounds received when a bomb exploded by his patrol in the southern Iraqi city of al-Basrah on Friday.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported the BBC as saying that the soldier was driving a “Bulldog” vehicle back to his base in al-Basrah when the bomb went off.
