Mysterious bomb kills 19 in al-Fallujah on Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 9:39pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at least 19 people were killed and 25 more injured when a mysterious bomb went off in a market on the outskirts of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad, on Tuesday.
Baghdad.
Arab tribes gather, issue declaration rejecting US-backed puppet “salvation councils” as a dangerous but vain attempt to turn them into stooges.
In a dispatch posted at 9:12pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi tribes in the provinces of al-Anbar, al-Mawsil, Salah ad-Din, at-Ta’mim, and Diyala had rejected US-backed organizations known as “Salvation Councils” for their provinces − essentially locally-recruited puppet police forces that would serve the occupation and strive to “normalize” relations between the tribes and the American-imposed Shi‘i sectarian puppet government.
The AMSI reported that shaykhs of the tribes issued a declaration on Tuesday, 5 June 2007 in which they announced that they had agreed to take a stand in opposition to the “new internecine strife” − a reference to the puppet “salvation councils” − after investigation had shown that the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council,” which was knocked together under Sattar Abu Rishah, was aimed “solely at fighting all the Iraqi Resistance groups deployed on the field of honor and glory.”
The tribal statement denounced the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council” as a council run by the former puppet “Minister of Defense” Sa‘dun ad-Dulaymi who participated in the puppet government of US-installed “Prime Minister” Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari, who − the statement noted − is now living in Iran.
The tribal declaration stated its unequivocal rejection of these “salvation councils,” which do not represent the tribes of those provinces. At the same time the tribal statement warned all the patriotic members of the Iraqi tribes to beware of this reality, which it described as “seriously dangerous.”
For its part the Shamar Arab tribes announced their boycott of the puppet “Salah ad-Din Province Salvation Council,” which was recently set up by the US occupation forces and their puppet regime in Baghdad.
A declaration issued by the tribal leaders and notables of Salah ad-Din Province said that all the members of the tribe had agreed to boycott this “Council,” regarding it as contrary to the path of the upright Islamic religion, and an attempt to split the ranks of the tribes in the province. The signatories of the declaration also declared that they had nothing to do with the man known as Sabah Matshar Dhiyab al-Hasan or anyone who joined him in that “Council.”
Quds Press reported that the US and puppet forces formed the “al-Anbar Salvation Council” under the leadership of Sattar Abu Rishah in order to fight those who reject the US occupation. Then a few days ago the formation of a similar “Salah ad-Din Province Salvation Council” was announced in that province to the north of Baghdad.
Quds Press noted that observers believe the purpose of those puppet “salvation councils” is to use local residents to strike at local residents, after the American reliance on Shi‘i sectarians who had lived in Iran for 20 years or who were recruited in the south of Iraq only served to alienate the occupation authorities and its puppets from the local populations in the predominantly Sunni and predominantly Arab regions of Iraq where the Resistance has proven most active.
UN reports 4.2 million Iraqis now refugees.
Thanks to the American invasion and occupation of Iraq, there are now more than 4.2 million Iraqi refugees, Jennifer Pagonis, spokesperson for the United Nations High Commission on Refugees disclosed at the Palais de Nations in Geneva on Tuesday.
According to Pagonis, 2.2 million Iraqis have escaped from their homeland and are living as refugees in neighboring countries. Another 2 million Iraqis are living as refugees inside Iraq itself, driven out of their homes by the sectarian strife stirred up by the US occupation in an effort to lay the groundwork for partitioning Iraq into three states.
Pagonis said that most of the displaced Iraqis still inside the country come from Baghdad and surrounding districts. Since February 2006 − when the bombing of the Imam al-Hadi Shi‘i shrine in Samarra’ signaled the launch of a massive sectarian ‘cleansing’ campaign by the Shi‘i sectarian militias across the country − an estimated 820,000 people have been driven out of their homes, including 15,000 Palestinians.
Pagonis added that the provincial governments installed by the US occupation and its Shi‘i sectarian puppet regime in Baghdad are further aggravating the problem. At least 10 out of Iraq’s 18 puppet provincial governments have closed their borders or are restricting access to new arrivals, Pagonis indicated.
Pagonis stated: “UNHCR is receiving disturbing reports of regional authorities refusing to register new arrivals, including single women, and denying access to government services. Many displaced have been evicted from public buildings. Combined with the general lack of resources, this has led to a growing number of impoverished shanty towns. The UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) and WFP indicate that at least 47 percent of the displaced have no access to official food distribution channels.”
Pagonis reported that the puppet regime in Baghdad admits that 1.4 million Iraqis currently live as refugees in Syria, up to 750,000 in Jordan, 80,000 in Egypt and some 200,000 in the Gulf region. Syria alone receives a minimum of 30,000 Iraqis a month, she said.
Pagonis said that the UNHCR is rapidly expanding its operations in the region but lamented that “the magnitude of the crisis is staggering.”
Bomb rips through US patrol in southeastern Baghdad Tuesday afternoon.
In a dispatch posted at 8:40pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a bomb exploded by a US military patrol in southeastern Baghdad on Tuesday afternoon.
The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast totally burned up one US Humvee in the al-Amin neighborhood of southeastern Baghdad. The source said that the Americans retreated from the area dragging the burning Humvee with them. No information on the nature or extent of US casualties was available at the time of reporting.
Earlier on Tuesday, the US military admitted that eight of its troops had been wounded in an attack on one of its bases in southeastern Baghdad. In a dispatch posted at 3:14pm Tuesday afternoon AMSI reported an American announcement as saying that a car bomb had exploded in the course of that attack and that men equipped with light arms and mortars also assaulted the American camp.
AMSI noted that the American statement, in keeping with the standard American secretive approach, failed to specify which of their camps had been attacked. It was not known, AMSI reported, whether the camp in question was the US base set up in the old Public Security building located in Baghdad’s al-Baladiyat district, or the US base set up in the former Military Academy in Baghdad’s ar-Rustamiyah district. Both of those American-occupied installations have come under mortar attacks over the last two days.
Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder campaign reaches new high following return of Muqtada as-Sadr to Baghdad. Number of victims recovered in Baghdad in first four days of June already tops 114.
In a dispatch posted at 2:16pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported Iraqi regime sources as saying that the number of murder victims whose bodies have turned up in Baghdad since the start of June has now risen to 114.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the puppet police announced the recovery of 28 more bodies of unidentified victims of the Shi‘i sectarian death squads. The bodies were bound and blindfolded and bore signs of severe torture − a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarians and the US-run puppet security forces whose membership is largely drawn from the Shi‘i sectarian militias. The latest bodies were picked up with no identity documents on them. The bodies were taken to the Forensic Medical Department in the Bab al-Mu ‘azzam district of the occupied Iraqi capital, pending identification and recovery by next-of-kin.
The month of May saw a huge increase in the number of sectarian murders carried out in Baghdad, following an apparent agreement between the US occupation and the Muqtada as-Sadr movement and the return of the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian fundamentalist cleric to occupied Iraq. The Jaysh al-Mahdi militia lead by as-Sadr and his entire movement have been taking part in the political system run by the US occupation since 2005, and the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia frequently carry out joint patrols and missions with the puppet army forces against the Iraqi Resistance.
The official number of bodies of victims of sectarian violence recovered in Baghdad in May totaled about 750 − victims of the very type of violence that the US proclaimed that its “troop surge” and “New Security Plan” were supposed to quell.
Babil Province.
Al-Iskandariyah.
Resistance ambush blows up US fuel tanker near al-Iskandariyah.
In a dispatch posted at 3:14pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that Iraqi Resistance forces armed with light and medium weapons attacked a US column near al-Iskandariyah, about 40km south of Baghdad on Tuesday, setting one fuel tanker in the column ablaze.
The AMSI reported that US forces quickly sealed off the area making it impossible to ascertain the nature or extent of American casualties.
Al-Latifiyah.
Resistance fighters ambush US patrol near al-Latifiyah Monday night, setting American vehicle ablaze.
In a dispatch posted at 2:27pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance group ambushed a US patrol to the south of Baghdad on Monday night.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that Resistance fighters ambushed an American column, leaving dead or wounded among the US occupation troops. The attack took place as the US patrol was heading down the highway near the town of al-Latifiyah, about 40km south of Baghdad, when Resistance men opened fire on the Americans as they crossed Bridge No. 19 on the road towards southern Iraq. A sudden and violent firefight erupted between the two sides and one of the US vehicles burst into flames.
The Resistance fighters were also able to withdraw successfully from the scene, the source said, adding that he had no information on the nature or extent of US casualties − something that the American occupation forces zealously and constantly strive to conceal.
