Quds Press reported that the Shi‘i sectarian leader is going to the United States at the personal invitation of American President George W. Bush.

A dispatch posted on the patriotic albasrah.net website on Sunday, 20 May 2007, reported that the Iraqi Resistance carried out an operation of qualitative significance when more than 1,000 Resistance fighters seized complete control of the third largest city in Iraq − al-Mawsil − on the night of Wednesday, 16 May to Thursday 17 May.
The dispatch indicated that the Resistance fighters cleared out the US and puppet regime forces that attempted to block their takeover of the city, in the process inflicting casualties on the Americans and their puppet allies before the survivors turned and fled.
The dispatch quoted Resistance sources as saying that the Resistance men took over five prisons and puppet police stations and set free all the prisoners and detainees who had been incarcerated in them. The prisons so liberated were:
the Badush Prison, the largest such institution in Ninwa Province.
the Nabi Yunus Prison.
the al-Faysaliyah puppet police station.
the al-Ba‘th Neighborhood puppet police station.
the Filastin Neighborhood puppet police station.
In the course of the operation, the Resistance fired mortars at the home of the deputy puppet governor of Ninwa Province, the pro-American Kurdish separatist Khusraw Kuran, forcing the puppet official to flee to an unknown destination.
A large number of American and puppet army armored vehicles and troop transport vehicles were destroyed, as were several puppet army headquarters. The Resistance also destroyed the Badush Bridge and carried out ambushes on the roads leading to al-Mawsil in order to delay the arrival of US reinforcements.
After completing all the missions set for the operation − which lasted for several hours − the Iraqi Resistance pulled out of the city to its regular positions. The operation, one of the largest and most determined yet was designed to inflict the greatest possible losses on the occupation forces and their helpers, damaging their ability to remain in the areas and positions that they had occupied.

Al-Qadisiyah Province.
Ad-Diwaniyah.
Turf war between rival Shi‘i sectarian militia gangs reveals efforts by Iranian surrogates to step into shoes of departing US occupation forces.
In a dispatch posted at 11:49am Makkah time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that on-going turf wars between rival Shi‘i sectarians have burst into the open in ad-Diwaniyah, 180km south of Baghdad, in the form of street battles between the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia loyal to sectarian pro-Iranian Shi‘i cleric Muqtada as-Sadr and backed by Iran’s conservatives, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, Iraqi puppet police − which are largely made up of Badr Brigade militiamen loyal to ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, who is known for his ties with the United States and the liberal wing of Iranian politicians.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Dr. Hamid Ja‘‘ati, the director of the ad-Diwaniyah puppet “Health Department” as saying that the city’s hospitals received the bodies of seven puppet policemen and two civilian dead on Saturday, in addition to taking in 15 wounded people, three of them children and three of them women. The casualties followed fighting between the Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian gunmen and the puppet police.
Puppet regime security sources confirmed that armed clashes had taken place on Salim Street in ad-Diwaniyah on Saturday evening, leaving “a number” of casualties.
Meanwhile, a member of the ad-Diwaniyah puppet council, ‘Abd Salim, announced that the office of the Sadr Movement, which runs the Jaysh al-Mahdi sectarian militia, had signed a truce in the presence of a number of members of the US-installed puppet “parliament.” Under the terms of the agreement between the feuding Shi‘i sectarian factions, fighting would be suspended for one month in order to allow school children to complete the year’s final exams.
At the beginning of May a force of US troops backed up by puppet Iraqi soldiers launched “Operation Black Eagle” against the Jaysh al-Mahdi, in a US effort to reassert control of occupied Iraq in the face of Iranian efforts, through the sectarian militias loyal to the Ahmadinajad regime, to step into the shoes of the Americans as they depart the country under the blows of the Iraqi Resistance.
“Operation Black Eagle,” which made use of sectarian gunmen from the Badr Brigade in the puppet security forces, in order to wipe out a rival sectarian militia, predictably failed to eradicate militias. Instead it only served to aggravate clashes between rival Shi‘i sectarian factions as they battle each other for control of ad-Diwaniyah.
The violent turf war, which has been going on for nearly three weeks now, has left dozens dead and about 100 imprisoned.
