US launches campaign to try to lure Sunnis to join American puppet army.
In a dispatch posted at 7pm Makkah time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that puppet police sources had disclosed that the US occupation forces on Saturday began a recruitment campaign directed at Iraqi Sunnis to try to lure them into joining the puppet Iraqi army.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Captain Ahmad Ghanim of the puppet police as saying that the US military distributed leaflets on Saturday to houses, residential areas, secondary schools, and in markets in al-Fallujah, ar-Ramadi and elsewhere calling on them to “have the honor of volunteering” to join the American-run puppet forces.
Captain Ghanim said that the leaflets promised a number of benefits to those who volunteer to serve the occupation, such as a very high salary, educational privileges for those who want to complete their studies, and “protection for them and their families from doubts.”
Ghanim said that US helicopters were dropping the leaflets over villages out in the countryside of al-Anbar Province. The leaflets did not specify an age for volunteers, a feature taken by observers as a measure of the desperation faced by the US military as it seeks to cajole Sunnis in the rebellious province of al-Anbar into joining their puppet army.
Resistance sharpshooter kills US Marine in al-Fallujah Saturday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 1:59pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US Marine in al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad at 8am local time Saturday morning.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Husayn ‘Abdallah, an officer in the al-Fallujah puppet police force, as saying that an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter shot and killed a Marine of the 3rd Division as he was taking part in a routine patrol in the al-Mu‘tasim neighborhood of the city. ‘Abdallah said that the Marine took a direct hit to the head, killing him on the spot. He said that after the attack US troops arrested four local men, one of them, he said, was found on his roof where a spent cartridge was also discovered.
Hit.
US forces lock down Hit, make mass arrests following Resistance attack on home of puppet police chief.
In a dispatch posted at 2pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces have imposed tight “security” restrictions on the people of the city of Hit, 180km northwest of Baghdad following an attack on the home of the puppet police commander in that city on Friday.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Saturday that reports on the fate of that puppet police chief were still contradictory. Sources in the local puppet governing council say that the Americans are blocking the issuance of any statement on the fate of the puppet police commander but meanwhile are carrying out mass raids and arrests of civilians in the city, having imposed a total curfew on the city, banning pedestrian as well as motor traffic from the streets.
Fathi al-Hiti, a member of the puppet council in Hit, told the press that US forces together with their puppet Iraqi army allies arrested more than 50 youths on Friday, most of them followers of the Salafi fundamentalist orientation and regular worshippers at local mosques.
Al-Hiti also said that the Americans and their puppet allies were carrying out extensive searches for fraternal Arab fighters who they claim are hiding in houses of local residents and who are rumored to have carried out the truck bomb attack that destroyed the home of Hamid Ibrahim al-Jazza‘, the puppet police commander in Hit.

As latest upsurge in Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder continues, Sunni refugees driven from their homes seek shelter in western Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 2:11pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that for the last three days the town of Abu Ghurayb, about 30km west of Baghdad, has been experiencing a surge of Sunni refugees fleeing the Shi‘i sectarian torture, murder spree now underway in Baghdad and other parts of the country.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Hammad az-Zawbi‘i, the chairman of the municipality, as saying that in the last 48 hours 51 Sunni families, 11 of them from al-Basrah far to the south, had sought refuge in Abu Ghurayb. The Shi‘i sectarian militias had confiscated their homes and driven them out.
Az-Zawbi‘i said that the families were originally headed for al-Fallujah, which they felt would be out of reach of the Shi‘i sectarian gunmen, but US forces prevented them from getting into that city, forcing them to turn back to Abu Ghurayb and remain there. He said that local tribes and the local governing council were currently trying to find better housing for the refugees, so that no family would have to remain in a tent, and so that they could find protected homes in which to live.
Residents in the az-Zaytun al-Hamdaniyah neighborhood said that volunteers had distributed food and clothing to the refugee families who had arrived in town “frightened and exhausted.”

Mafkarat al-Islam, in a dispatch on the attack posted at 10:18pm Makkah time Saturday night [the equivalent of 11:18pm Baghdad time], noted that al-Fadl and all the other Sunni areas of Baghdad have suffered numerous American raids and searches since the American “New Security Plan” and troop surge came into force over two months ago.
