Baghdad.
Iraq’s pro-Iranian puppet “UN Ambassador” withdraws key Iraqi documents from UN, preparing the way for Tehran to award itself US$100 billion in “reparations” from Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 20:54 on Sunday, 22 April 2007, the Iraqi website akhbaruna.com reported that the United Nations ambassador from the US-installed puppet regime in Baghdad, Hamid al-Bayyati has withdrawn all the documents that the independent Iraqi government had submitted to the UN documenting Iran’s attacks on Iraqi border posts prior to the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq war in September 1980.
Al-Bayyati has also officially withdrawn the documents attesting to Iran’s rejection of a cease fire following the withdrawal of Iraqi troops behind international borders in 1982, and documents proving that Iran executed Iraqi prisoners of war being held in the “Islamic Republic” − executions that the Badr Brigades, the same armed militia that assisted the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, took part in. Hamid al-Bayyati is himself a member of the Badr Brigades, according to a report posted on the Nahnu at-Turkoman news website.
Akhbaruna.com reported that the purpose of al-Bayyati’s action is to lay the groundwork for Tehran to present the UN Security Council with a demand for financial compensation in the amount of more than US $100 billion. The withdrawal and destruction of the Iraqi documentation fatally weakens the Iraqi case against any such Iranian demands.
In fact the first person to demand that Iraq pay $100 billion in reparations to Iran was none other than ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, the chief of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) whose armed wing is the Badr Brigade militia. And, echoing his boss, al-Bayyati is also on record telling the Iranian press that Iraq must pay reparations to Iran.
Akhbaruna.com reported that al-Bayyati was appointed “Iraqi UN Ambassador” by the US-installed Shi‘i sectarian regime specifically in order for him to provide the political and legal cover to facilitate Iran’s scheme for obtaining vast sums in “reparations.” Since the Shi‘i sectarian political parties in Iraq all work on behalf of Tehran and are, in fact, extensions of domestic Iranian political movements it is not surprising that their members in the puppet regime in the “Green Zone” should be hard at work securing Iranian interests at the expense of Iraq.
It is noteworthy that Hamid al-Bayyati is actually a pseudonym; the puppet “Ambassador’s” original name being ‘Adil Isfahani − an Iranian name.
Nine Iraqi professors killed between mid-March and mid-April.
The Saudi daily al-Watan newspaper in its Monday edition reported that between 15 March and 16 April nine Iraqi University professors in various fields of specialization were killed in the cities of Baghdad and al-Mawsil − an average rate of one professor killed every 3.3 days.
Al-Watan’s correspondent Majid al-Jamil reported Ahmad kamal Ahmad, the President of the League of University Instructors − whose headquarters is in the al-Khadra’ neighborhood of the western Baghdad district of al-Karakh − as saying that the following are the names of the professors murdered in that one-month period: Talal Yunus al-Jalili, Ja‘far Hasan Sadiq, Tha’ir Ahmad Jabr, Physician Mundhir Ahmad al-‘Ani (who was killed along with his wife and two children), Rida Husayn al-Quarayshi, Khalid Tariq an-Na’ib, Sami Sitrak, Amir Makki az-Zuhayri, and Khalid al-Hasan.
In a dispatch posted at 11:09pm Baghdad time Monday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) commented that there had been numerous reports in the media of a plan for the wholesale killing of Iraqi scientists and university professors in an effort to hold back the country’s potential for construction and development, and to facilitate its partition and the theft of its resources.
