Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Qa’im.
US forces gun down fishermen near al-Qa’im.
In a dispatch posted at 10:02pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US troops killed two fishermen and severely wounded three more as they were plying their trade in the waters of the Euphrates River not far from a village located east of al-Qa’im − which is near the Iraqi border with Syrian.
Al-Fallujah.
US forces arrest 34 in al-Fallujah area.
In a dispatch posted at 8:42pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces, accompanied by their puppet Iraqi army allies, launched a massive campaign of raids and arrests in several villages west of al-Fallujah.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported Khalid ash-Shitawi, a member of the puppet City Council of al-Habbaniyah, as saying that 34 local people were arrested in the villages of al-Bu Khalifah, al-Bu Mar‘i, Kartan, and al-Jazirah in the al-Habbaniyah area.
Ash-Shitawi said that the Americans justified the arrests by saying that the individuals were suspected of being connected with attacks on US occupation forces. He said that the captives were taken to one of the US bases in the area and said he expected that the campaign would continue for the next two days, following the discovery of a cache of weapons in the area.
Al-Hadithah.
Resistance bomber blasts troops near al-Hadithah, destroying 15 troop transports.
In a dispatch posted at 3:48pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fighter drove an explosives-laden truck into a column of troop transport vehicles in the al-Bu Hayyat area, east of al-Haqlaniyah, near al-Hadithah, about 270km northwest of Baghdad.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported the ar-Rafidayn television network as reporting that the truck bomb explosion destroyed 15 trucks loaded with soldiers.
In a dispatch posted on its website at 10:02pm Tuesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the truck bomb targeted a headquarters that the Americans had set up in the al-Bu Hayyat School. The report said that “serious casualties” were caused by the attack on US and puppet regime troops.
Ar-Ramadi.
Bomb attack targets puppet police in ar-Ramadi.
In a dispatch posted at 2:50pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a car bomb had exploded in front of a restaurant located on the main road north of ar-Ramadi, 110km west of Baghdad, on Tuesday.
Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast targeted an area in which tribes known for their hostility to the al-Qa‘idah organization lived. It was the latest in a series of attacks that mark a growing clash between the Iraqi tribes and Resistance organizations on the one hand, and the al-Qa‘idah organization on the other.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the explosion appeared to target tribes supporting the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council” police. Puppet police reports indicated that at least 10 people were killed and 25 more wounded in the Tuesday bomb attack.
A dispatch posted by the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) at 7:49pm Baghdad time Tuesday evening quoted puppet police sources as saying that the car bomb was driven by a fighter who blew himself up by a gathering of people at the al-Jazirah Restaurant in the al-Jazirah area to the north of ar-Ramadi.
AMSI also reported that the American-imposed curfew was still in force Tuesday night on 20 Street and in the neighborhoods of ash-Shurtah and al-Jumhuriyah in ar-Ramadi.
Abu Ghurayb.
Bomb targets home of tribal leader in Abu Ghurayb Tuesday morning. Tribal spokesmen sharply deny claims by Reuters of victim’s involvement with puppet police, as plot by US, puppet regime to turn al-Qa‘idah against Iraqi Resistance is exposed.
In a dispatch posted at 1:22pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombers blew themselves up near the home of Shaykh Zahir ad-Darri, the leader of the Zawbi‘ tribe in the Abu Ghurayb area, about 30km west of Baghdad. Shaykh Zahir’s son was killed in the bombing and several other local people were wounded.
The British news agency Reuters reported Ahmad ad-Dulaymi, the chief of the press office at the local puppet municipal council, as asserting that Shaykh Zahir’s son, who was killed in the blast, had been a member of the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council” police.
But in a dispatch posted at 8pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported one of the shaykhs of the Zawbi‘ tribe as saying that the son of Zahir ad-Darri was not a member of the puppet forces at all, but a commander in the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution Resistance organization. Shaykh Ahmad az-Zawbi‘i emphasized that the story carried by Reuters was baseless and untrue.
Shaykh Ahmad az-Zawbi‘i announced that the bomb that exploded by the home of Shaykh Zahir ad-Darri in the Khan Darri area of Abu Ghurayb killed Harith Zahir Khamis ad-Darri, a leader of the Islamic Jihad Brigade of the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution. Shaykh Ahmad said that the Reuters claim that Harith had been a member of the puppet police organization was totally devoid of truth and that the tribe was planning to bring suit against Reuters for its report.
Shaykh Ahmad az-Zawbi‘i accused al-Qa‘idah of being behind the deadly Tuesday morning bombing. He said that the attack part of what he called “an organized campaign to assassinate the leaders of the Resistance organizations” who refused to submit to al-Qa‘idah, which dubs itself the “Islamic State of Iraq.”
Meanwhile, Captain Muhammad Faraj al-Karakhi of the puppet al-Muthanna Brigade announced that after the Tuesday morning bombing on the home of ad-Darri, armed az-Zawbi‘i tribesmen deployed on the streets of the city. The puppet officer said that the city was looking at some difficult hours ahead.
Eyewitnesses reported that commanders of the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution had been distributing leaflets in Abu Ghurayb ordering its members “not to arouse strife” and to avoid any clashes with any Resistance organizations, “in order to preserve the unity of the Sunni ranks.”
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US occupation is working very hard to create a rift between the Iraqi tribes and the Iraqi Resistance, in particular the al-Qa‘idah organization, which calls itself the “Islamic State of Iraq.” The US-appointed puppet “Governor” of al-Anbar Province, Ma’mun Sami ar-Rashid, previously made a statement to the effect that the US occupation and the puppet Iraqi authorities were working to isolate al-Qa‘idah from the rest of the Iraqi Resistance organizations and then to strike at al-Qa‘idah and destroy it using intelligence information and the assistance of the other members of the American “coalition.”
In that speech, ar-Rashid said that the puppet regime was relying heavily on that effort, which he called a “master plan,” and indicated that the next step was to attempt to carry on a dialogue and discussions with the other armed Resistance groups in order to try to convince them to negotiate with the central puppet “government” and to convince them that the American forces will leave just as soon as security has been established in al-Anbar Province.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that other Resistance groups such as the Islamic Army, the Army of the Mujahideen, and the Ansar as-Sunnah denounced ar-Rashid’s speech and said that although they might differ with their brothers in the Islamic State of Iraq, they would not sell them out, no matter what happened.
Baghdad.
Army of the Mujahideen spokesman denies US Ambassador’s claims to have been in contact with Iraqi Resistance.
In a dispatch posted at 4:38pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Army of the Mujahideen Iraqi Resistance organization had issued a statement in which it denied claims by US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzadah on Monday that he had been in contact with the leaders of Resistance groups but failed to provide names of any of the Resistance groups with which he claimed to have had discussions, however.
Quds Press reported the representative of the Army of the Mujahideen as saying that the American official’s claim was “an American trick.”
Al-Jazeera satellite TV, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported ‘Abd ar-Rahman al-Qaysi, the spokesman for the Army of the al-Mujahideen, as saying: “The Iraqi Resistance organizations, including the Army of the Mujahideen, had declared their rejection of any contacts with the American forces because they do not display seriousness about dealing with these issues.”
Al-Qaysi said that “the purpose of these announcements [by Khalilzadah] is to arouse suspicions in the ranks of the Resistance and to cause splits between their different organizations.”
The spokesman for the Army of the Mujahideen added that “America must display seriousness about negotiation with the Iraqi Resistance, regarding it as the legitimate representative of the Iraqi people,” and confirmed that the Resistance organizations had resolved not to enter into any negotiations with the Americans except on a collective basis.
Pro-Iran militia thought behind Katyusha attack on US base in “Madinat as-Sadr” following imposition of UN sanctions on Iran.
In a dispatch posted at 8:11pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two Katyusha rockets were fired into a new US base set up in the eastern Baghdad area nicknamed “Madinat as-Sadr” − a stronghold of the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militia − after the United Nations’ declaration of sanctions on Iran.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that it was believed that the Jaysh al-Mahdi was behind the attack on the US base, which was just opened last week. The source indicated that the rockets caused no casualties.
A puppet police announcement said that the rockets were fired from the Shi‘i Ur neighborhood into the US base and that an investigation was underway with local residents who witnessed the attack to determine who was behind it.
The situation in the area has become more tense lately, it was reported, following the US-led drive to impose sanctions on Iran and then the capture by Iranian Coast Guards of 15 British troops in the Shatt al-‘Arab waterway. Observers note that Iran could escalate armed activity in Iraq by inciting the Shi‘i sectarian militias against the US occupation forces with the aim of putting pressure on Washington.
Such a situation, in which the Shi‘i sectarian militias are showing signs of posing a potential threat to the Americans over Washington’s attitude towards Iran, is in stark contrast to the support rendered by the pro-Iranian militias to the American occupation of their own country, Iraq. The 30,000-man Badr Brigades, which was armed and trained for years in Iran, joined the Americans during their invasion of Iraq in 2003 and then formed the backbone of the American supported puppet security forces.
The pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, led by cleric Muqtada as-Sadr and aligned with Iran’s conservatives and president Mahmud Ahmadinajad, was initially less supportive of the American occupation but then it joined the pro-American ruling coalition in Baghdad in 2005, following Ahmadinajad’s election in Iran. Since then, Muqtada as-Sadr’s Jaysh al-Mahdi has been in the forefront of massive sectarian campaigns of torture and murder of Iraqi Sunnis, while pledging “not to shed a drop” of American blood.
Despite the increased tension between Iran and the United States, it is evident that Tehran and its Shi‘i sectarian militia supporters are still reluctant to confront the US forces directly. Their hope is to achieve maximum bargaining power with the Americans, so as to cut optimum deals in negotiations with Washington over the fate of Iraq and the Arab region.
Puppet “National Guards” rampage through Sunni area of Baghdad, raiding homes, shooting at civilians Tuesday afternoon.
In a bulletin posted at 4:38pm Baghdad time Tuesday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that puppet regime troops were rampaging through the al-Fadl district of Baghdad, randomly shooting at civilians and residents’ houses as they carried out raids and searches in the area.
Witnesses told AMSI that the puppet “Iraq National Guard” launched their violent campaign of raids about an hour earlier. At that time no information on the number of dead or wounded − if any − was available.
AMSI noted that this was not the first time that the district had been subjected to such rampages by the puppet forces; this was, on the contrary, a common occurrence, and often the Shi‘i sectarian militias have taken part in the “operations” alongside the troops of the puppet army and American occupation soldiers. AMSI said that the scale of the attacks has reached genocidal levels particularly since the Americans launched their “New Security Plan” for Baghdad a little over a month ago.
Resistance attacks leave three puppet policemen dead in Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that three puppet policemen were killed and eight more wounded in various Resistance attacks in the occupied city of Baghdad.
Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the side of a road blew up by a puppet police patrol in southeastern Baghdad, killing one puppet policeman and wounding two more.
The sources said that Resistance fighters shot and killed a puppet police lieutenant with the puppet “Crimes Unit” in the az-Zuyunah district of eastern Baghdad.
In the Umm al-Ma‘alif neighborhood of western Baghdad Iraqi Resistance men ambushed a puppet police patrol, killing one patrolman and wounding two more.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah went off by a puppet police patrol, wounding four of them.
US officially admits death of Marine on 24 March.
In a dispatch posted on its website at 10:55pm Baghdad time Tuesday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI)reported that the US military had admitted that one Marine had been killed in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar on 24 March.
AMSI quoted a US announcement as mentioning the death days after it occurred and in keeping with the standard American practice of secrecy, no further details regarding the place or circumstances of the death or the name of the soldier were provided.
Babil Province.
Al-Musayyib.
Resistance bomb targets US column near al-Musayyib Tuesday afternoon.
In a dispatch posted Tuesday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-Ithlat area near al-Musayyib, 70km south of Baghdad, on Tuesday afternoon.
AMSI reported that the blast damaged a Humvee, but that no information on the nature or extent of casualties was available, since the Americans quickly surrounded the target area.
Al-Iskandariyah.
Shi‘i sectarian gunmen blow up mosques in Babil Province Monday evening.
In a dispatch posted at 10:26pm Baghdad time Monday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that sectarian militias “of a well-known orientation” − evidently Shi‘i sectarians − planted explosives around the Hittin Mosque in the Hittin residential area in al-Iskandariyah, 40km south of Baghdad and blew up the building Monday night.
The AMSI reported that the sectarians attacked the mosque after sunset prayers, planted the explosives, and blew up the mosque in front of the puppet regime security forces who coordinate with them and at a time when a curfew was in force in the area. The same mosque was the target of an arson attack the day before yesterday, the correspondent reported.
In a similar incident, sectarian militias attacked the funeral of one of the defenders of the al-Iskandariyah mosque in the cemetery, killing four and wounding still others. The puppet police were nearby at the time but did nothing to stop the sectarian killing.
Meanwhile, sectarian militias blew up the al-Bashir mosque in the al-Musayyib area, 70km south of Baghdad, AMSI reported.
Ninwa Province.
Al-Mawsil.
Resistance bomb rips through official motorcade in al-Mawsil.
In a dispatch posted on Tuesday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported a puppet police spokesman for Ninwa Province as saying that an Iraqi Resistance bomb went off by a motorcade of vehicles associated with Major General Salim al-Hajj ‘Isa, the Chairman of the puppet “Provincial Governing Council.” The explosion occurred in the al-‘Arabi neighborhood on the left (northeastern) bank of the Tigris River in the city.
AMSI quoted the spokesman as saying that the attack took place as the motorcade was returning from Dahuk Province in the north, where Major General ‘Isa has his home. He added that two of ‘Isa’s bodyguards were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. General ‘Isa himself was reportedly not present in the motorcade at the time of the attack.
Tall ‘Afar.
Triple truck bombing in Tall ‘Afar leaves 50 dead Tuesday afternoon.
The Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported on its website Tuesday that three explosives-packed vehicles blew up nearly simultaneously in the north, central, and southern parts of Tall ‘Afar, about 55km west of al-Mawsil in northern Iraq, at 4:30pm Tuesday.
AMSI reported Brigadier General Najm ‘Abd al-Jabburi, the puppet “Governor” of the Tall ‘Afar District, as saying that the casualty toll from the triple bombing had risen to 50 dead and 120 wounded, and added that it was expected that the number would yet rise further.
In an earlier report, AMSI quoted al-Jabburi as saying that there were two truck bombs, one, which blew up at a car park in the middle of Tall ‘Afar and a second that went off in the Shaykh Jawad district of the city.
In a dispatch posted at 8:41pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported Major Muhammad al-‘Afri of the puppet forces as issuing a press statement saying that the first explosion appeared to come from a Kia Sedan loaded with 50 kilograms of explosives and prepared for remote detonation. The spokesman said that the blast occurred in a mixed Sunni and Shi‘i area.
