Al-Anbar Province.
Ar-Ramadi.
Thirty-five reported dead in several days of fighting between al-Qa‘idah, tribesmen in ar-Ramadi area.
In a dispatch posted at 12:34pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the fierce fighting that has been raging since Saturday between Resistance men believed to belong to al-Qa‘idah on the one hand, and tribesmen enrolled in the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council” police on the other has now left 35 dead on both sides along with a number of civilian victims.
The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the al-Bu Sudah area, where much of the fighting has taken place, as saying that 25 of the tribal puppet police and 10 of the Resistance men have been killed. Witnesses reported that women and children have also fallen as casualties in the course of the fighting when the al-Qa‘idah fighters used mortars some of whose shells landed on their houses.
Witnesses say that the fighting has been centered on the al-Bu Sudah and al-Bu ‘Alwan areas, both settlements of tribesmen who make up the majority of the puppet “al-Anbar Salvation Council” police. The al-Bu Sudah is east of ar-Ramadi, behind the Grand State Mosque and near the as-Sufiyah neighborhood. The al-Bu ‘Alwan area is to the west of the city, behind the ar-Ramadi courthouse offices and offices of the city’s agricultural department near the road leading west to Hit and other cities on the upper Euphrates.
Residents blamed the outbreak of fighting on the abduction by Resistance men − thought to be members of al-Qa‘idah, of a member of the al-Bu ‘Alwan tribe.
In a dispatch posted Wednesday, Quds Press reported an source in the Iraqi puppet army as saying that US forces began an extensive operation in neighborhoods of ar-Ramadi on Tuesday.
The source told Quds Press that the additional US forces had arrived in al-Anbar Province to take part in the military campaign that had been prepared in advance, together with puppet Iraqi troops. The campaign, the source said, is aimed at cracking down on al-Qa‘idah Resistance fighters.
The source indicated that already a number of the tribes in the area were taking part in the sweep and that on Tuesday afternoon raids and searches were carried out extensively in the neighborhoods of al-Mal‘ab, 17 Tammuz, and ath-Thilah in central ar-Ramadi. The sweep led to clashes with the Resistance and there were casualties on both sides, the source said, without going into specifics.
Witnesses told Quds Press that US and puppet Iraqi troops raided buildings on the campus of al-Anbar University in ar-Ramadi. They set up observation towers on the roofs of campus buildings and American snipers deployed there, preventing students or teachers from holding classes.
Al-Hadithah.
Resistance ambushes puppet police patrol Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 12:39pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a puppet police patrol, sparking a gun battle with Resistance men in al-Hadithah, 270km northwest of Baghdad on Tuesday.
The al-Hadithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the as-Subhani area to the south of the city as saying that a bomb went off by a puppet police patrol as it drove past, destroying a patrol vehicle, killing one puppet policeman and wounding three more. Then Resistance fighters attacked the patrol, firing light and medium machine guns and killing a second puppet policeman.
The correspondent noted that al-Hadithah’s population is living through difficult times as the US has kept the city blockaded for more than five months.
Baghdad.
US soldier reportedly sells 30 photos of Iraqi President Saddam Husayn in his prison cell to Fox News for US$100,000.
In a dispatch posted at 5:35pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported informed sources in the top-security area around the Republican Palace in Baghdad − the area dubbed the “Green Zone” by the Americans − as saying that an American soldier had sold 30 photographs of martyred Iraqi President Saddam Husayn in his prison cell.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source who asked that his identity not be revealed as saying that a US soldier who belongs to a unit of special guards attached to the American Embassy in the “Green Zone,” and who was one of four guards posted at the prison cell of Saddam Husayn in the “Green Zone,” had taken pictures of the Iraqi President in his cell. These include photos of the Iraqi President at prayer, writing, and sleeping on his back. Other pictures show the imprisoned President gathering dry bread crumbs from the floor, lest US guards step on them when the come into his cell.
The source said that the American soldier sold the collection of 30 photographs for US$100,000 to a correspondent with the American Fox News company whose intention was to publish them at some point in time.
Armenian Church leader denounces “treason” of Shi‘ah in Iraq, says Iraqi Resistance never attacked churches and only targets enemies of Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 5:57pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the head of the Armenian Christian community in Baghdad has accused the Shi‘ah of Iraq of treason to the country in favor of Iran and America and said that it had been proven that the Christians in the country were more patriotic than the Shi‘ah.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam interviewed the Priest Butrus al-Babili on the fourth anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq. In the interview, al-Babili said that the Christians of Iraq had proven their love for their homeland more than the Shi‘ah, as they regard their Christian loyalty to the homeland to be one of the fundamental precepts of their faith.
Al-Babili accused the Shi‘ah of betraying Iraq, turning their loyalty to Iran and the United states at the expense of their own Iraqi homeland. He said that the Americans were working hard to spread dissention and splits between the three Christian groups in Iraq − the Orthodox, the Armenians, and the Catholics.
Regarding the Iraqi Resistance that is most prominent in the Sunni parts of the country, Father al-Babili said, “it’s a legitimate resistance,” and added that the Resistance had never attacked any churches in al-Habbaniyah or al-Khalidiyah or anywhere else. He said that that was the clearest proof that the Resistance is only hostile to those who cause harm to Iraq or to the Resistance movement.
Al-Babili said that there had been attacks on Christians in the last year but that they were the work of the Americans and their Shi‘i helpers.
Father al-Babili noted that the Armenian community had refused to take part in the puppet “Iraqi government” or in the puppet police or army, regarding the puppet regime as a “stooge,” as he called it. In support of this point of view, he quoted the third book of the Bible as saying that the helper of a killer is also a killer.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that currently there are between 20,000 and 22,000 Armenians in Iraq, most of them in Baghdad, al-Basrah, al-Mawsil, Kirkuk and Zakhu. In independent Iraq prior to the US invasion they were free to practice their faith but since the American occupation the chaotic situation in the country has driven many into emigration. About 200 Armenian families fled from the situation in the southern city of al-Basrah alone, some of them moving to Baghdad, others out of the country entirely.
With Resistance attacks on truck convoys and aircraft increasingly costly, US hopes to use Iraqi railroads to supply its far-flung network of bases in western, northern Iraq.
In a dispatch posted at 7:03pm Makkah time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the puppet Iraqi army as saying that the US occupation regime is working on repairing and refurbishing the Iraqi railroad system, particularly in the western and northern parts of the country in order to use them to transport men and materiel as well as fuel and provisions to the American bases throughout the country.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Colonel ‘Ali ‘Abdallah al-Wakils in the Operations Room in the puppet “Ministry of Defense” as saying that the US army is experiencing difficulty with its present system that relies on motor vehicles such as goods trucks to service the western and northern regions of the country where the majority of the Resistance operations take place. Ferrying men and materiel by air has also become more dangerous and is also much more expensive.
A US Defense Department report mentioned that Resistance attacks have reached a rate of 1,000 strikes every month and the heavy losses incurred from such a rate of Resistance activity have prompted the Americans to look for alternative ways to supply their network of far-flung bases throughout the country.
In an exclusive interview with Mafkarat al-Islam, Colonel al-Wakil said that theUS army is now going to rely on the existing rail system in Iraq, which should be a cheaper mode of transport than trucks or aircraft. The colonel said that the Americans feel that guarding the trains should be relatively easy since large stretches of track run through open desert where it would be difficult for Resistance men to mount ambushes.
At present, however, the Americans are in the throes of ironing out differences with the puppet “Iraqi Ministry of Transport,” which has thus far not given its permission for the Americans to use the trains that have been sitting idle in western and southern Baghdad since the US invasion in 2003.
Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.
Body of martyred Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan buried near grave of martyred President Saddam Husayn in al-‘Awjah. Witnesses say body bore signs of abuse.
In a dispatch posted at 3:23pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the body of the martyred Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan, assassinated in an “execution” carried out by the American-backed puppet regime, was laid to rest in the village of al-‘Awjah near the grave of Iraq’s martyred President Saddam Husayn. The event took place under heavy American guard.
The Tikrit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Iraqi sources as saying that the US forces handed over the body of Vice President Ramadan to the puppet police. They, in turn, took the body to the village of al-‘Awjah for burial beside the gravesite of the Iraqi President, in accordance with Ramadan’s will.
The Iraqi puppet police imposed tight security measures during the funeral and interment, bringing more than 15 vehicles into the village along with the body.
Religious leaders took the body down from the vehicle and into the Gradn Saddam Mosque where they proceeded to wash and wrap it in a shroud, in keeping with Islamic practice. Hundreds of local mourners then attended the funerary prayer service.
The Shaykh who supervised the washing of the Vice President’s body told Mafkarat al-Islam that the body showed signs of beating after death, as there were boot prints on his face and chest.
Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan was buried in a grave next to that of ‘Uday and Qusay Saddam Husayn, the martyred sons of the Iraqi leader, and those of Saddam Husayn’s grandson Mustafa, Saddam Husayn’s half brother Barzan at-Tikriti, and the Iraqi Judge ‘Awwad al-Bandar − all of them killed by the US and their puppet regime allies since the American invasion of the country in 2003.
Diyala Province.
Al-Mada’in.
Drive to stir sectarian violence continues as two more bodies of tortured Sunni youths are found in al-Mada’in.
In a dispatch posted at 1:03pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that residents of al-Mada’in, 25km southeast of Baghdad found the mutilated bodies of two Sunni youths near the at-Taqqah junction to the north of town.
The al-Mada’in correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of the al-Lajj are as saying that the two youths had been kidnapped as they were returning home from Baghdad. A car carrying gunmen wearing the puppet “Order Protection Police” uniform stopped the youths and took them away after learning that they belonged to the Sunni ad-Dulaym tribe. Their bodies were found near the al-Kut and at-Taqqah junctions. Both had been killed and showed signs of torture with electric drills − a practice associated with Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-sponsored puppet security services, most of whose members are concurrently Shi‘i sectarian militiamen.
This was the second such incident this week. Earlier a number of workers from a fuel station in Salman Bak were abducted. Three of the men who happened to be Shi‘ah were set free, but the two Sunnis were taken away and killed the next day, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.
On Tuesday, Quds Press reported that although the puppet authorities have repeatedly issued official statements saying that the number of sectarian murders and the number of bodies being found was on the decline following the imposition of the new American “Security Plan,” the number of recoveries of bodies of apparent victims of sectarian attacks was once again at high levels, similar to the situation that prevailed prior to the new American “Security” arrangements. Sectarian killings are evidently aimed at inciting sectarian violence and splitting Iraq according to partition plans drawn up long ago in US and Zionist think tanks.
US arrests of Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen in al-Mada’in in moves increasingly denounced as “superficial.”
In a dispatch posted at 12:56pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces accompanied by their puppet “Iraqi army allies” carried out showy arrests of 72 members of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in the al-Mada’in area, 25km southeast of Baghdad over the last two days.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the al-Kut puppet police as saying that a large puppet Iraqi force was aiding the Americans in the sweep. Sunni personalities in the area criticize the US-led raids, however, saying that the Americans are arresting individual Jaysh al-Mahdi members who have little effective power or influence in the organization and are not in command of the sectarian death squads. The Sunni critics of the American “crack down” note that the Shi‘i sectarian gunmen who are arrested are only held for a brief period and are then set free once again.
The sweep was part of an operation identified with the American “New Security Plan” that has now entered its second month. The correspondent reported that local Sunnis believe the occasional roundups of Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen are designed to improve the image of the utterly Shi‘i sectarian American-backed puppet regime.
Al-Khalis.
Resistance ambushes puppet army patrol Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 12:19pm Makkah time midday Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce fighting took place between Iraqi puppet army troops and the Iraqi Resistance in the area of al-Khalis, 57km north of Baghdad on Tuesday.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of al-Khalis as saying that Resistance fighters ambushed the patrol in the at-Tahrir are 7km north of the town, wounding two of the puppet soldiers.
Buhriz.
US troops arrest six during raids, searches.
In a dispatch posted at 12:19pm Makkah time midday Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces carried out a campaign of raids and searches in the area of Buhriz, just south of Ba‘qubah, located 65km northeast of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Americans found a quantity of weapons and ammunition in a grove near the town and arrested six local residents.
Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.
British vacate at-Tuwaysah base in al-Basrah after four years of attacks, losses.
In a dispatch posted at 3:32pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a communique´ issued by the British occupation forces announced that British troops had withdrawn from the at-Tuwaysah military base in the city of al-Basrah.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported the communique´ as saying that the facility had been handed over to the 10th Division of the puppet Iraqi army at a handover ceremony.
The at-Tuwaysah base was the target of constant attacks by Iraqi Resistance forces for a period of four years and was the scene of the deaths of many British occupation troops over the years, according to eyewitnesses. The British tried to reduce the attacks and their losses by using observation balloons, spy cameras, and armored patrols, but the attacks continued relentlessly.
The correspondent in al-Basrah reports that the at-Tuwaysah base is located in the at-Tuwaysa district of the city. Prior to the Anglo-American invasion it was a facility of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.
Attack leaves local puppet official dead at Shi‘i mosque in al-Basrah.
In a dispatch posted at 3:21pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that armed men attacked the al-Murtada Husayniyah (Shi‘i Mosque) in the al-Mishraq al-Jadid district of the southern city of al-Basrah.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that two men were killed in the assault, one of them the head of the puppet town council for the Abu Muhammad district. The other man, who was known as “Sayyid” was the founder of the Husayniyah.
The correspondent noted that a number of Husayniahs in southern Iraq have been accused of serving as headquarters for Iranian Intelligence in the area. He pointed out that the muezzin of the al-Hasanayn Mosque was killed not far from the al-Murtada Husayniyah in June 2006 and at the time, Iranian Intelligence was blamed for the murder.
