Mysterious heavy mortar barrage strikes home of Sunni tribal leader in al-Habbaniyah.
In a dispatch posted at 3:38pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, four heavy 120mm mortar rounds blasted into the home of the shaykh of the al-Bu Mar‘i tribe in the Kawlikum area of al-Habbaniyah, about 70km west of Baghdad.
The al-Habbaniyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported puppet police sources as saying that four heavy mortar rounds struck the house of Shayh Hamad al-Hamid al-Mar‘awi, the head of the al-Bu Mar‘i tribe, killing his grandson and nephew in addition to two guests who were visiting at the time. The house was also destroyed.
The source said that one shell slammed directly into the house, while three others landed in the citrus grove outside. Fourteen people were wounded in the attack.
It was in the Kawlikum area where the al-‘Ummal Sunni mosque was attacked, killing about 47 people, including 21 women and children and 15 worshippers last Saturday, 24 February.

Resistance pounds US base near Hit with mortars.
In a dispatch posted at 12:49pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance forces fired at least ten 82mm mortar shells at one of the US bases located near the city of Hit, 165km northwest of Baghdad, setting off thunderous explosions inside the base.
The Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the shells hit various parts of US-occupied base, formerly an Iraqi army training camp, setting off big explosions and sending thick black smoke rising over the facility. After the attack, US forces closed the road that leads to the base.

Bomb rips through puppet police station in predominantly Shi‘i section of US-occupied Baghdad Wednesday afternoon.
In a bulletin posted at 4:20pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a violent explosion had ripped through a puppet police station in the predominantly Shi‘i at-Tahrir Square section of Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted at 4:40pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that eyewitnesses said that the blast on at-Tahrir Square was the result of a car bomb being driven by a Resistance fighter who attacked the Bab ash-Shaykh puppet police station in the area.
Witnesses said that the bomber drove his car through the first security barriers around the station and detonated his payload at the entrance to the station. Nine puppet policemen were killed or wounded in the blast.
A puppet police source said that plumes of smoke rose from the scene, following the blast, which could be heard from a great distance away. At-Tahrir Square is in a predominantly Shi‘i area and has been the target of attacks before.
US forces make raids and arrests in al-Ghazaliyah.
In a dispatch posted at 12:22pm Makkah time midday Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US forces together with their puppet Iraqi army allies carried out a campaign of raids, searches and arrests in the al-Ghazaliyah area of western Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Americans and their allies raided numerous houses in the predominantly Sunni area, near the al-Buraq Mosque area, arresting many youths and men without explanation.

US troops kill taxi driver who got too close to American patrol in Tikrit Tuesday night.
In a dispatch posted at 4:55pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US troops opened machine gun fire on a car that passed too close to an American patrol in Tikrit on Tuesday night, killing a taxi driver.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that the police found the body of a taxi driver who had apparently passed close to an American patrol without seeing it during the night, prompting the Americans to open fire and kill him on the spot.
The puppet police found the body of Nuhad ash-Shamari, the taxi driver, who was killed Tuesday when he was on his way back from work to his home in the as-Suqur neighborhood of the city.
Meanwhile, the puppet police in Tallul Hamrin, 40km northeast of Tikrit found the body of an unknown man in civilian clothes who had been killed by a gunshot wound to the head. That body was turned over to the forensic medicine department.

Resistance blasts US base with Katyusha rockets early Wednesday.
In a dispatch posted at 12:32pm Makkah time midday Wednesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired three Katyusha rockets into the US-occupied al-Bakr Air Base in the Yathrib area, about 70km north of Baghdad at 7am local time Wednesday morning.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in Yathrib as saying that the three rockets blasted into the base, which the Americans have dubbed “Camp Anaconda,” sending up plumes of smoke and dust. Afterwards, US helicopter gun ships flew in and around the area.

Resistance barrage targets puppet police stronghold south of al-Hillah.
In a dispatch posted at 5:23pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired three 60mm mortar rounds at a puppet police command post by Bridge 20 south of al-Hillah
The al-Mada’in correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the barrage killed two puppet policemen and wounded four more of them. The injured were taken to al-Hillah General Hospital for treatment.
Al-Latifiyah.
Two US troops reported killed in Resistance bombing near al-Latifiyah Wednesday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 12:42pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol near the city of al-Latifiyah, 30km south of Baghdad on Wednesday morning.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the city as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the main road that passes near al-Latifiyah went off as an American patrol was driving by. The explosion completely disabled an American Humvee and killed two US soldiers and wounded three more, one of them fatally, witnesses said. The witnesses added that the Americans responded to the explosion by firing indiscriminately around the area, which they then closed off.

Resistance sharpshooter reportedly kills US soldier in Kirkuk Wednesday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 4:16pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance marksman had shot and killed a US soldier in the northern city of Kirkuk.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the “1 Adhar” section of southern Kirkuk as saying that a US foot patrol was moving throught narrow streets in the area Wednesday morning when one of the Americans was struck by a bullet fired by an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter, killing him instantly.
After the attack, the Americans closed off the area and began savagely searching houses. Despite their open violence, the American manhunt turned up no sign of the sharpshooter.
Resistance bomb wounds four puppet troops near Kirkuk Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 2:04pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of puppet “Iraqi National Guards” southwest of Kirkuk on Tuesday.
The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a puppet police source as saying that a bomb that had been planted in the Silo area or ar-Riyad, southwest of Kirkuk, went off by a puppet “National Guard” patrol, moderately damaging a Humvee and wounding four puppet “Guards,” two of them severely.

US soldier reported killed by Resistance sharpshooter in al-Mawsil Wednesday morning.
In a dispatch posted at 1:01pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US soldier in the northern city of al-Mawsil Wednesday morning.
The al-Mawsil correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that a US foot patrol was moving through the city when one of the soldiers towards the back of the column took a direct hit in the face from a Resistance sharpshooter’s bullet, killing him instantly. The Americans withdrew from the area immediately after the attack.
