Two Resistance bombs reportedly kill 77 Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen and commanders in al-Hillah. Official media accounts of “suicide bombers,” civilian casualties refuted.
In a dispatch posted at 2:48pm Makkah time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two powerful Resistance bombs that exploded in al-Hillah on Thursday were targeted at pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen, not on civilians as claimed by the puppet regime and its official media, and that 77 sectarian gunmen were killed and another 163 of them wounded in the double bombing.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the official media had given various accounts according to some of which two bombers wearing explosive belts blew themselves up in al-Hillah, and according to others bombs planted by the roadside were responsible.
Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents learned from reliable sources that the explosions were the result of one bomb and one car bomb. The car bomb was packed with explosives and parked beside the office of the Muqtada as-Sadr movement on al-Maktabat Street in al-Hillah. The other bomb was planted by a coffee house near a hotel where large numbers of Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen had rented rooms.
Large numbers of pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen have flooded out of Baghdad to al-Hillah and other locations in southern Iraq in recent weeks to avoid the American public crackdown on the Jaysh al-Mahdi. Mafkarat al-Islam has already reported that US-backed prime minister Nuri al-Maliki warned the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi that the sweep was coming and to avoid it by moving out of Baghdad temporarily, as the Americans and their puppet regime go through the motions of rounding up some Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen in the capital to strike a pose of “even handedness.”
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Hillah learned, that a number of Jaysh al-Mahdi commanders were killed in the double bomb attack. This report was later confirmed by the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the Jaysh al-Madhi stronghold known as “Madinat as-Sadr” in Baghdad where more than 20 coffins containing the remains of Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters killed in the al-Hillah bombings had been delivered.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent refuted claims by the puppet regime’s media that women had been among the victims in the bomb attacks. The correspondent reported medical sources as saying that in fact six women were slightly injured by shattered window glass, but they had already returned home after being discharged from the hospital in improved condition on Thursday night.

Following the attack, puppet Iraqi forces and pro-Iranian militiamen closed off the area.
An-Najaf Province.
An-Najaf.
Arab tribes reportedly massing for attack on an-Najaf in retaliation for massacre by US, Iraqi puppet forces of tribesmen on Monday.
Quds Press reported on Friday that the curfew that the puppet forces had imposed Friday on the city of an-Najaf had been prompted by reports that Arab tribes in the vicinity had massed large forces northeast of the city near al-Hillah in Babil Province in preparation for an attack on puppet Iraqi regime troops.
Sources told Quds Press that the tribes, natives of the Middle Euphrates area had been gathering for two days massing men and arms in numerous locations around an-Najaf apparently with the intention of attacking the city. A tribal offensive would be in revenge for attack by puppet regime troops on Shi‘i Arab pilgrims in the az-Zarkah gardens northeast of an-Najaf on Monday, 29 January. Some 133 Iraqi Arab tribesmen of the al-Hatimi and al-Khaz‘ali Arab tribes were killed when puppet army troops opened fire on their procession when it was on its way to an-Najaf to commemorate ‘Ashura’. US aircraft reportedly played a major role in attacking the tribesmen from the air.
The American-installed puppet regime in Baghdad first claimed that the battle on Monday had been against al-Qa‘idah fighters, then asserted that it was an assault on a Shi‘i cult group.
Quds Press reported Friday that US commanders urgently appealed to puppet Iraqi army commanders to forestall any attack by the tribes.
Meanwhile, a source in the al-Hatimi tribe told Quds Press that the “sons of the tribes of the Middle Euphrates will not stand by with their arms folded in the face of the big massacre that the government and American forces committed against them in az-Zarkah.”
Shaykh ‘Ali ‘Abd al-Amir al-Hatimi told the correspondent for Quds Press that there were still dozens of women and children of the tribes being held captive by the puppet security forces in an-Najaf. The shaykh added that dozens of bodies of sons of the al-Hatimi tribe are still lying on the battleground, which the local authorities in an-Najaf have prevented the tribesmen from getting to.
