Al-Hadithah.
Resistance organization sinks US gunboat near al-Hadithah Saturday afternoon, reportedly killing three US Marines.
In a dispatch posted at 8:21pm Makkah time Saturday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that that the Ansar as-Sunnah Iraqi Resistance organization announced that it had destroyed a US gunboat on the Euphrates River in the al-Bu Hayyat area near al-Hadithah, 170km northwest of Baghdad on Saturday afternoon. The organization pledged to continue to attack US gunboats and to turn the Euphrates into waters that are “off limits” to the Americans.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Shaykh Abu Ibrahim al-Hadithi of the Ansar as-Sunnah as saying that the Resistance group ambushed the American N9 gunboat at 4:20pm local time Saturday afternoon as it was carrying three US Marines along the river on reconnaissance.
Shaykh al-Hadithi said that the Resistance men attacked and destroyed the boat, killing the three Marines. He said that the body of one of them was still in the river − the US forces having been unable to find it until the time of his statement.
Al-Hadithi pleged that the Resistance would ban US gunboats from the waters of the Euphrates. “We will go after them in the waters of the Euphrates like some people go fishing there,” he said.
The correspondent reported that US troops sealed off the al-Hadithah dam 15 minutes after the attack and surrounded the area. About a month earlier US forces had ordered the clearing of papyrus reeds and tall grasses growing along the banks of the Euphrates in the area, out of fear that Resistace fighters would use them for cover in launching attacks on US gunboats. But local people said that the grasses and reeds grew back surprisingly fast. The Americans then ordered that oil be poured over the overgrowth in order to kill the roots of the grasses and reeds and prevent their further regrowth.

Kirkuk.
Resistance bombs in Kirkuk target bus terminals used for the forcible eviction of Sunni Arabs from Kirkuk.
In a dispatch posted at 2:08pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombs exploded by offices for ground transport whose aim is to facilitate the forced eviction of Sunni Arabs from the oil-rich city of Kirkuk. The US-installed Shi ‘ sectarian regime has ordered the expulsion of all Arab Sunnis from the city under a law on the so-called “normalization of the situation in Kirkuk.” Sunni Arabs make up the largest population bloc in the city followed by Kurds, and then much smaller communities of Turkomans and Arab Shi‘ah. Kurdish separatists seek to take over the city and annex it to the separatist Kurdish enclave in northern Iraq.
The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombs went off in the Rahim Awah area 15 minutes before a batch of expelled Sunni Arabs arrived to be driven out of the city. The correspondent reported that 81 Kurds and Shi‘i sectarian members of the pro-American “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)” were killed or wounded in the blast.
A medical source told Mafkarat al-Islam that as of that hour, 12 people were listed as having been killed and 69 others wounded in the blast, most of those in serious condition. The source said that among the dead were a number of Shi ‘ sectarian officials who were supervising the forced expulsion of Arab Sunnis from the areas of al-Huwayjah and al-‘Ubayd near Kirkuk.
The correspondent refuted claims made by the Shi‘i sectarian media and mainstream Arab satellite networks to the effect that among the dead and wounded were women and children. The correspondent noted that Kirkuk Hospital and the “1st of March” Hospital received only males − Kurds and Shi‘i sectarians − wounded in the blast.
