Resistance attacks three US positions in Hit simultaneously Friday afternoon.
In a dispatch posted at 2:28pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces mounted attacks on three different US positions in the city of Hit, 165km northwest of Baghdad at 5:30pm Friday evening just after sunset.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in Hit as saying that the attack began when several massive explosions shook the city of Hit as Resistance fighters mounted attacks on three US positions in the city. Puppet police sources told the correspondent that the Resistance targeted two US checkpoints at the Hit junction to the west of the city, the Zawiyah checkpoint and the US camp to the northeast of the city by the syrup factory all were struck by Resistance mortars and machine gun fire at the same time. At least 11 American troops were killed or wounded according to Captain Kamil Mahmud of the puppet army. He added that four Resistance men were also killed in the ambush. Sources in the Iraqi Resistance did not confirm any deaths on the Resistance side, however.
US helicopters were brought in to evacuate American casualties following the Resistance attacks, according to local people who watched events transpire from the Bayt ad-Durrah Restaurant in the center of the city.

Five US troops reported killed in series of Resistance attacks in Baghdad on Saturday.
In a dispatch posted at 1:11am Makkah time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance had carried out a number of attacks on US occupation troops in Baghdad on Saturday.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters fired two Grad rockets into the US base called “Freedom Flyiers” in western Baghdad ﾐ a facility that the Americans set up in a headquarters of the Iraqi army. A spokesman from the Resistance organization Ansar as-Sunnah told Mafkarat al-Islam that the rockets scored direct hits on their intended targets.
In a second incident Resistance fighters hung a bomb on a date palm tree three or four feet off the ground. The explosive device went off by a passing American foot patrol, Mafkarat al-Islam reported, killing at least two American troops and wounding others. The tree also collapsed as a result of the explosion, blocking the road.
In Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah district, an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column damaging an armored vehicle but causing no casualties.
Another Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded near ar-Ruwwad Square in the capital, killing three US troops and wounding a fourth who collapsed to earth, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported.

In a dispatch posted at 12:51am Makkah time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at that hour a huge fire was raging in a commercial center dominated by Iranian and Shi‘i sectarian merchants after sectarian gunmen threw out and murdered the Sunnis who formerly traded there alongside the Shi‘ah.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that dozens of shops, kiosks, and stores had been engulfed in flame in the ash-Shurjah Market. The fire department is battling the blaze, which began more than an hour earlier, the correspondent reported. Despite the efforts of the firemen, the inferno was still growing and at the time of reporting was gutting shops that sell perfumes, clothing, stockings, and household appliances and electronics.
The correspondent reported that the fire was started by arson but had no immediate word on any human casualties.
US troops blockade ad-Durah, give residents until Sunday morning to hand over personal weapons or face arrest.
In a dispatch posted at 12:50am Makkah time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation troops had surrounded and sealed off the south Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah and demanded that local residents hand over the weapons that they keep for self-defense against criminals and the Shi‘i sectarian death squads backed by the American occupation.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from the besieged suburb that US forces at that hour were using loudspeakers to broadcast a statement giving the local residents until daylight Sunday to turn in their weapons or face arrest. The correspondent reported that the Americans are continuously broadcasting the demand while their forces have blocked everyone in the suburb from entering or leaving.
Resistance sharpshooter kills Jaysh al-Mahdi communications, propaganda chief in Baghdad Saturday evening.
In a dispatch posted at 6:53pm Makkah time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a commander of the pro-Iranian Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the Islamic Army Iraqi Resistance organization as saying that one of their sharpshooters had picked off a Jaysh al-Mahdi commander known as Abu Sajjad when he was with a group of other Jaysh al-Mahdi members. Abu Sajjad was responsible for communications, propaganda, and “heritage” for the organization in Baghdad.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that following the killing the situation in the area was very tense as Jaysh al-Mahdi gunmen fired their weapons into the air in impotent rage. The gunmen go about threatening to massacre Sunnis in the neighborhood in retaliation for the killing and as a consequence Sunni residents have taken up arms and have positioned themselves on the roofs of their houses, ready to repel an offensive by the Shi‘i sectarians, whose rampages usually receive tacit American support.
Resistance attacks, destroys puppet “National Guard” checkpoint in Baghdad Saturday afternoon.
In a dispatch posted at 5:08pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a puppet regime checkpoint in Baghdad from two directions.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance men armed with RPG-7 rocket-propelled grenades attacked and destroyed a checkpoint manned by puppet “Iraqi National Guards.” The Resistance men also destroyed three vehicles and killed nine of the puppet “Guards” in their attack.
The witnesses said that the Resistance attackers brought down the checkpoint within 10 minutes. They said they saw three of the puppet troops fleeing into nearby civilian houses after their companions had been killed.
At the time of reporting fire was still burning in the checkpoint where the vehicles were also still ablaze. The Resistance men seized the weapons they found at the checkpoint before withdrawing from the area after the attack.
Resistance car bomb targets Baghdad fuel station stronghold of pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militia, killing 11.
In a dispatch posted at 5:07pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a fuel station controlled by the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi Shi‘i sectarian militia in Baghdad’s al-‘Amil neighborhood on Saturday.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the car bomb targeted a fuel station that the sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi had turned into one of their strongholds several months ago, preventing any Sunnis from filling up there by threatening to kidnap and kill them if they tried.
The explosion killed 11 and wounded another 10 persons by preliminary count. At the time of reporting, US and Iraqi puppet regime forces had surrounded the gas station and ambulance crews were working to transport Shi‘i sectarian casualties away from the area.

US Marine dies under mysterious circumstances in Ba‘qubah on Saturday.
In a dispatch posted at 8:43pm Makkah time Saturday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an American soldier died under mysterious circumstances in an incident in Ba‘qubah, about 65km northeast of Baghdad, on Saturday.
The Ba‘qubah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that an American Marine who was standing among a group of other US troops in the middle of the at-Tahrir neighborhood of western Ba‘qubah suddenly fell to the ground. Local residents thought he must have been shot by an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter. Other US troops rushed to the man and turned him over and tried to artificially resuscitate him, but he died.
The witnesses ﾐ owners of small shops and stores in the area ﾐ said that the Americans then put his body in one of the plastic bags that they use for those killed in battles. They said that they could see that blood had oozed from the dead Marine’s nose and mouth. But sources in the puppet police in Ba‘qubah, while confirming the death of the Marine, said that the American had died in a “non-hostile” incident.

Resistance rockets blast into US consulate in al-Hillah Saturday afternoon.
In a dispatch posted at 5:27pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance forces fired four rockets into the US Consulate in the city of al-Hillah, about 60km south of Baghdad.
The al-Hillah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in the al-‘Abbud neighborhood of the city as saying that they say four rockets blast into the US consulate. The American diplomatic mission has been set up in a former Iraqi government building.
The witnesses said that plumes of dense smoke and dust were seen rising from the second floor of the building. Swarms of helicopters were in the area over the al-Jabawi date palm groves, located two kilometers from the consulate ﾐ the area where the Americans believe the rockets were fired.

Puppet regime shocked as results of census show Arab Sunnis the largest population group in oil-rich Kirkuk.
In a dispatch posted at 5:51pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the to the shock and dismay of the US-installed Shi‘i sectarian puppet “Iraqi government,” a census has revealed that the largest population group in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq are Arab Sunnis.
The Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet “Center of Joint Cooperation” as saying that the total number of residents of Kirkuk was now 840,000 according to the census. Arab Sunnis were the largest population group in the city, followed by Kurds, then Shi‘ah, and finally Turkomans.
The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that according to the census, Arab Sunnis accounted for 47 percent of the city’s total population. Kurds accounted for 35 percent. Shi‘ah and Turkomans together made up only 18 percent of the population.
The source said that the Iraqi puppet regime asked the US occupation authorities to turn over to it the documents and authentication of the census and pressed the Americans not to “rush to release” the results of the census on the grounds that it would aggravate ethnic and sectarian strife there.
For some time following the US invasion of Iraq in the spring of 2003, Kirkuk was at the center of a hot dispute between pro-American Kurdish separatists and the Arab population over whether the city should be handed over to the Kurdish separatist “Kurdistan” enclave established under American domination in the north of the country. This impelled the shaykhs of the Arab tribes of al-‘Ubayd, al-Jabbur, and al-Hawatimah ﾐ all descended from the ad-Dulaym tribe in al-Anbar Province ﾐ to threaten to go to war if the city were split off and given to the Kurds.

Revolutionary Guard Colonel among Iranians captured by US forces in Irbil.
In a dispatch posted at 5:35pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Kurdish separatist party sources have disclosed that one of the five Iranians arrested at the Iranian consulate on Thursday, 11 January, was Colonel Faris al-Hasani of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Americans raided the Iranian consulate just six hours after al-Hasani arrived.
The regional hegemonic regime in Iran is seeking to secure its hold in Iraq by using Shi‘i sectarian leaders and organizations in the country. It hopes to step into the shoes of the American occupation authorities whose grip on the country has been weakened by three years of increasingly severe Resistance attacks. Although the US has made extensive use of pro-Iranian sectarian groups and individuals in taking control of Iraq, if now finds itself increasingly competing with Tehran for control of the country. To forestall Iran’s attempt to replace America as colonial power in Iraq, the Iraqi Resistance continues its battle against pro-Iranian as well as US and pro-US groups and facilities.
