The source said that Resistance men fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns as they ambushed the Americans, destroying two US vehicles. The puppet police source was unable to provide any information regarding the nature or extent of casualties.
The attack came shortly after an Iraqi Resistance car bomber blew himself up at a US checkpoint in nearby ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces laid a trap for US troops in the al-Mal‘ab (“playing field”) area of the city of ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses who live in al-Mal‘ab as saying that the Resistance planted a bomb near a house and when a group of Marines approached, the bomb exploded, killing three of them.
Resistance fighters who had been hidden in the area then opened fire on the Americans with light and medium weapons sparking a firefight that ended when US helicopter gun ships arrived on the scene. At least five Marines were wounded in the battle that followed the bomb explosion, the witnesses said, adding that a US Humvee was also destroyed.
The correspondent reported that local residents call the al-Mal‘ab area in their city the “American graveyard” because so many US occupation troops have been killed by Resistance attacks in the district.

When the troops gathered to search the car, however, the Resistance man detonated his payload, killing four US Marines and wounding at least five others. A US Humvee there was also totally destroyed.
Witnesses said that American helicopters evacuated the dead and wounded. Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted at 2:25 GMT Saturday, Quds Press reported sources close to the pro-Iranian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia as saying that a large number of commanders in the militia had left Iraq or changed their addresses after they had been tipped off by the puppet regime’s “Interior Ministry” that the new “Security Plan” to be imposed by the US in Baghdad on Sunday would involve a crackdown on the death squads in the Jaysh al-Mahdi.
The correspondent for Quds Press reported the sources as saying that at least 10 top commanders of the Jaysh al-Mahdi traveled on forged passports to Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt in a move coordinated with high-ranking officials in the American-installed regime, in particular, leading officers of the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry.” A number of other top commanders in the Jaysh al-Mahdi changed their residences in recent days, finding refuge in houses that originally belonged to Sunnis who had been expelled or murdered by the Jaysh al-Mahdi.
The sources told Quds Press that there is a standing practice of coordination between the Jaysh al-Mahdi and the puppet regime’s “Interior Ministry” under which highly placed officers in the puppet “Ministry” keep the Jaysh al-Mahdi regularly informed of all developments prior to any military operations that might be undertaken against them by the US occupation and its puppet regime forces.
In other news, Quds Press reported that the Iraqi political commentator Hasan al-‘Alawi told al-Jazeera satellite TV on Saturday that according to official plans, the “execution” of Iraqi President Saddam Husayn would be “compensated” by the removal of Shi‘i sectarian leader Muqtada as-Sadr from the scene.
Al-‘Alawi said that an understanding had been reached between US President George W. Bush and various collaborationist Shi‘i and Sunni sectarian factions that cooperate with the US occupation. Under the terms of that agreement, al-‘Alawi told al-Jazeera, the Sunni collaborationist parties were to remain quiet after the assassination of Saddam Husayn, and then US forces would strike at the Shi‘i sectarian militia death squads, in particular that of the pro-Iranian cleric Muqtada as-Sadr.
The Shi‘i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, run by Muqtada as-Sadr, a Shi‘i cleric loyal to Iran’s “conservatives,” is seeking to extend its regional hegemony and step into the shoes of the American occupation in Iraq as it leaves under the blows of the Iraqi Resistance.
The US, on the other hand, which has made use of Shi‘i sectarian militias such as the Badr Brigades ミ close to Iran’s pro-western “liberals” ミ and the Jaysh al-Mahdi in its drive to occupy and control Iraq is now attempting to reduce Iranian influence in the country.
To forestall Iran’s attempt to replace America as colonial power in Iraq, the Iraqi Resistance continues its battle against pro-Iranian as well as US and pro-US groups and facilities.
Without warning, US troops blow up two houses in Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah area Friday afternoon.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the Americans blew up two vacant houses in the al-Kafa’at neighborhood near the al-Mustafa Secondary School in al-Ghazaliyah for not known reason. The witnesses said that the Americans destroyed the buildings without warning local residents that they were going to set off explosives. The demolition of those two houses caused extensive damage to three neighboring homes, the residents said, and blew out the window class from most other houses in the area.
The residents said that the demolition of the houses was “like an earthquake had hit the area,” frightening many families who lived there.
US troops raid mosque in al-‘Amiriyah at dawn Saturday.
In a dispatch posted at 2:26pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation troops accompanied by the Iraqi puppet army allies raided a mosque in the predominantly Sunni al-‘Amiriyah area of western Baghdad following the dawn prayer on Saturday morning.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US troops raided the Muluki Mosque in al-‘Amiriyah and arrested one of the guards there. Witnesses who had said the dawn prayer in the mosque told the correspondent that the Americans and their Iraqi puppet allies surrounded the mosque while the morning prayer was under way and immediately after it finished they stormed inside and searched the area reserved for women, the area where people wash prior to prayer and other rooms in the building. The Americans arrested one of the mosque guards and confiscated weapons that were legally licensed for use in protecting the facility.
The witnesses said that the Americans refused to let them leave the mosque after the dawn prayer, keeping them detained inside for about three hours. They said that they tried to get the Americans to release the mosque guard since he was officially licensed to carry weapons and guard the mosque, but the Americans refused, saying that they intended to carry out a short interrogation of him and then set him free thereafter.

American abducted near al-Basrah on Friday.
In a dispatch posted at 9:20 GMT Saturday, Quds Press reported that the puppet police chief in the southern city of al-Basrah had announced that an American civilian and two Iraqi translators had been abducted in the city on Friday. The fate of four Americans and one Austrian kidnapped several weeks earlier was still unknown.
The correspondent for Quds Press reported Major General Muhammad Hammadi al-Musawi, the puppet police chief, as saying that armed men abducted an American and two Iraqi translators who were accompanying him in the al-Basrah Gate area.
Al-Musawi said that the American and his translators were coming to al-Basrah from Maysan Province in a civilian car and said they were taken to an unknown destination.
Earlier an Iraqi organization calling itself the Squadrons of the Criterion (“Saraya al-Furqan”) took responsibility for the abduction of four Americans and an Austrian from the Safwan area southwest of al-Basrah as they entered Iraq from Kuwait on 17 November. The Squadrons demanded the release of Iraqis being held in American prisons in exchange for the five kidnapped foreigners.
On 3 January 2007, the al-‘Arabiyah satellite TV station broadcast a video showing the five foreigners who appeared to be in good health, saying that their captors were treating them well.
