The United States’ various wars in Iraq have already seen
the birth of one new disease, Gulf War Syndrome.
GWS has been primarily identified in veterans from the 1991
Persian Gulf War.
イラクでのアメリカの種々な戦争により、
既に一つの新しい病気、湾岸戦争症候群の発生を見ました。
湾岸戦争症候群は1991年の湾岸戦争以来主に退役軍人に見られました。
Besides this sickness, there have been countless cases of what is
now known as Depleted Uranium Sickness, an enormous rise in cancers,
particularly in young children,
as well as an explosion of other diseases.
この病気の他にも特に、他の症状の爆発的増加と同様、幼い子供達に今
劣化ウラン弾による症状、ガンの巨大な増加として知られているものの
無数のケースがあります。
Juwan is just one young girl among many sick Iraqi children who are
failing to find treatment in Iraq today.
Since the conclusion of the 1991 war and the initiation of the 2003
invasion of Iraq, illness was rampant due to the crushing sanctions
imposed by the United Nations and backed primarily by the US.

Prior to the 1991 war, healthcare, literacy, employment, and many other
measures of a country’s development were some of the finest in the world.
1991年の戦争の前には、イラクでは、医療、識字、雇用、
国家の発展の多くの他の水準が世界で最も良好でした。
Today many are desperate to find effective and functional healthcare
for their children.
With the primary focus on re-establishing security and
defending Iraq’s oil revenues, this goal seems far from reach.
今日では多くの人々が子供達の為に効果的で、機能的な医療を
見い出すことに必死です。
治安を再確立し、イラクの石油収入を守ることが主要な焦点では、
このゴールは到達には程遠いと思われます。

One night at 1:00 a.m. she was playing with her siblings
and she told me, "Papa,my head hurts."
I said, "Come here my love! Sit on my lap."
The moment she sat, her whole body began shaking terribly,
as if she was being slaughtered.
and her eyes rolled up.
We could only see the whites of her eyes.
We couldn't even control her body to try artificial respiration.
We didn't know what to do.
We were in doubt whether she was alive or dead.
Even her pulse couldn't be heard.
ある夜、午前一時に娘は兄弟と遊んでいました。
そして私に「パパ、頭が痛い」と言いました。
私は「おいで、膝にお座り」と言いました。
膝に座ると娘は全身がひどく痙攣し始めました。
まるで殺されるかのように。
目は痙攣していました。
白目だけが見えました。
人口呼吸をしようとしても、
娘の体を制御することさえできませんでした。

I took her to four hospitals in Iraq:
The Nervous System hospital, Sheikh Zayed hospital, Al-Kindi hospital,
All of them refused to have her admitted
because they all said "The official work day starts at 9:00 a.m."
I told them,
"I don't know if my child is dead or alive, just examine her please."
The guards said, "No, it's not possible."
ええ、午前一時でしたから夜間外出禁止令が出ていました。
近所の人達が娘を病院に運べるよう警察に行ってくれました。
しかし警官達は助けようとはしませんでした。
イラクの四つの病院に連れて行きました：
神経科病院、シェイク・ゼイド病院、キンディ病院、
彼らは皆、「公式の仕事は午前九時に始まる」からと言って、
娘を受け入れることを拒否しました。
「娘が死んでいるのか生きているのか分かりません。

"Even if we let you in, there are no doctors, it's too early."

I was driving her from place to place, until someone told me
to take her to the Emergency at Madinat Al-Tub hospital.
At 8:00 a.m....
They immediately gave her intravenous feeding.
Then a Doctor came and asked me why she was here, I told her that
they gave her an IV, and I explained her condition to him.
He cut the hanging fluid bag,
and asked me to get her out of the emergency room.
Saying, "Throw her out."
誰かが私に Madinat アル・Tub 病院の緊急医療に娘を連れて行くように言う

直ぐに娘に点滴を開始しました。

I got angry, and while I was talking to the doctor,
Juwan had another shaking fit while in her coma.
I begged him, "My Daughter will die,"
but he insisted, that I get her out of the emergency.
There was a good nurse around,
she hurried to another doctor, and brought him in,
That doctor prescribed a valium injection,
the nurse gave Juwan the injection,
and told me to take her to the Mansur Hospital-Madinat Al-Tub.
That hospital was so far,
so I begged the ambulance driver to take me there.
I took her to the Mansur Hospital-Madinat Al-Tub.
She was admitted to the emergency,
and the staff there kept an eye on her condition.
At noon, a doctor, came to me and told me that
they should take a bit of her marrow from her back,
because they had doubts her virus was a brain infection.
In the morning, her condition improved and they started giving her
a course of injections for treating brain virus infections,
Before knowing the results of the marrow test,
She was walking with a slight hobble in her right leg,
after the marrow taking operation,
After 21 days, it was clear that this hobble was an involuntary act.
Finally, they told me to take her out of the hospital,
and there was no use in keeping her there.
There was a decrease in her weight, but in the last two months,
she put on some pounds, and she eats well.
We blend her food, which is soup, meat, fruits and vegetables.
Because of her condition, she doesn't see people.
She is imprisoned here with no change of air.
When I take her to the doctor's clinic, she feels good,
because she gets in the car and sees people in the streets.
My child's disease is definitely from the war,
radiations, and the deadly weapons that have been used against Iraq.
I hope all the humanitarian organizations, that care for human rights,
and especially those who care for children rights,
can hear me, and help me.
My daughter's treatment might be easy, difficult, or impossible.
But at least could have some peace.
そうです。彼は引き抜いたんです。
もし娘がここで死んでも彼らには責任がないと言いながら、
娘を連れ出すように私に言ったんです。

朝、娘の容態は快方に向かいました。
脳ウイルス感染を処置する注射の連続投与を開始しました。
骨髄テストの結果を知る前には、娘は右脚を少し引きずって歩いていました。
骨髄手術の21日後、足を引きずる行為は無意識のものだと明らかになりました。
最終的には、私に娘を病院から引き取るように言いました。
病院に娘を置いていても意味がありませんでした。
娘は体重が減りました。
しかしここ二か月少し太りました。
よく食べます。
娘の食べ物はブレンドしています。スープ、肉、果物、野菜。
娘はその状態の為に、人々に会いません。
娘は転地なしでここに閉じ込められています。
娘をクリニックに連れて行く時、娘は気分良く感じます。
何故なら娘は車に乗って、道行く人々を見るからです。
私の娘の病気は確かに戦争によるものです。
イラクに対して使用された放射線や致命的な兵器からです。
私は全ての人道主義の組織、人権を尊重し、特に子供達の権利に関心を持つ
人達が、私の声を聞いて、私を支援することを望みます。
私の娘の治療は容易かもしれないし、困難かもしれないし、
あるいは不可能かもしれません。
しかし少なくともいくらかの平安を持つことはできるでしょう。
