Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Hadithah.
Resistance ambushes US Marine detachment in al-Hadithah Tuesday night sparking violent battle in the darkness.
In a dispatch posted at 10:58pm Makkah time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce fighting was underway at that hour between Iraqi Resistance forces and US Marines in the middle of the city of al-Hadithah, 236km northwest of Baghdad.
The al-Hadithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the combat was concentrated in the areas of the ash-Shurtah neighborhood, near ‘Alawi as-Samij, and near al-Hajj ‘Abd al-Karim Salamah’s Store.
A detachment of at least 30 Marines entered the city an hour earlier, the correspondent reported, to arrest a number of “wanted men.” But two groups of Iraqi Resistance fighters ambushed the Marines from two directions.
The correspondent reported that the battle was going on at that time with no more than 50 meters separating the two sides. The Resistance men were firing intensively. Religious leaders used mosque loudspeakers to tell local residents to turn off any outdoor lights in order to help the Resistance men ミ familiar with the streets ミ to move from alley to alley and in between houses as they press their attack on the Americans. The mosques then began broadcasting cries of “Allahu akbar!” [“God is greatest!”] and prayers for victory to the Resistance over the invaders and occupiers.
The whole city resounded with the sounds of gunfire and explosions. Plumes of smoke can be seen rising from four parts of the city ミ the sources of which are believed to be burning American military vehicles. The correspondent wrote that the Resistance had the initiative, as was evident from the fact that the Americans were forced to call in helicopter gun ships for support. At the time of reporting, however, the aircraft had not been able to strike any targets in the dark, convoluted lanes of the city.
Abu Ghurayb.
Resistance bomb rips through Humvee in Abu Ghurayb midday Tuesday.
In a dispatch posted at 1:58pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US armored column in Abu Ghurayb, about 30km west of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported opposite the ad-Diwan Restaurant in the middle of town, disabling a US Humvee and probably inflicting casualties though the correspondent had no information on the nature or extent of any American losses because the US troops quickly sealed off the area where the attack took place. Diners at the ad-Diwan restaurant, who were forced to remain there while the Americans cleaned up the area, said that the blast virtually totally destroyed the Humvee, making casualties seem likely.
Al-Fallujah.
Resistance fighters battle US troops in western al-Fallujah late Monday night.
In a dispatch posted at 3:02pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce fighting broke out between US troops and Iraqi Resistance forces in al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad, late on Monday night after a Resistance assault on a US camp in the city.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that Iraqi Resistance men armed with rockets and light and medium machine guns attacked the US camp at the back of the al-Jaghifi neighborhood on the edge of the city. The attack inflicted damage on the camp but no information on the nature or extent of US casualties was available. The witnesses said that following the initial attack, heated fighting between the Resistance and the US troops continued for about half an hour, at which time the Resistance men slipped away successfully.

Witnesses said that a large number of US military personnel and vehicles were involved in the sweep and that the Americans blew open doors with percussion grenades that were so powerful that they also shattered window glass and terrified many peaceful residents. About 40 local people were arrested, the witnesses said.
Resistance blasts US base east of al-Fallujah with Katyusha rockets Monday night.
In a dispatch posted at 2:33pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired two Katyusha rockets into the largest US base in al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad, at about 7pm local time Monday night.

Mysterious bombs target students, civilians in bloody day in Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted Tuesday evening, Quds Press reported that the number of victims of a bomb explosion near al-Mustansiriyah University in eastern Baghdad had reached 60 dead an 110 wounded, according to an announcement made by the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry.” The large number of injured meant that the number of deaths was likely to rise still higher.
Quds Press quoted the puppet ministry as saying that the bomb exploded around 3:15pm local time Tuesday afternoon, when students were leaving for home. That timing resulted in a large number of dead and wounded among the students. The puppet “Ministry of Higher Education” appealed for blood donations to help the victims.
The Al-Jazeera satellite TV station reported puppet security sources as saying that two car bombs exploded near the entrance to al-Mustansiriyah University in northeastern Baghdad at the time classes were letting out. The station reported that about 70 people had died and 138 wounded ミ most of the casualties being students and university staff.
Al-Jazeera reported that in addition to the many charred bodies around the scene numerous private cars had also been destroyed in the double car bombing. Eyewitnesses told al-Jazeera that it had taken the Fire Department and puppet “Civil Defense” troops an hour before they were able to get the bodies out of the area.
Al-Jazeera reported puppet police sources as saying that unknown armed men in cars had killed at least 10 people and wounded seven more when they opened fire indiscriminately in a popular market near the al-Bunuk neighborhood of northern Baghdad just after noon on Tuesday.

An announcement that the Sufi order following Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Kilani had formed an armed Iraqi Resistance organization was published on 23 August 2006.
Tuesday was a particularly bloody day in Baghdad as a large number of powerful bombs exploded in various neighborhoods of the city, claiming dozens of victims, most of them civilian, Quds Press reported. In that attack, the Palestinian Jamal Faysal Zahri was killed and another was beaten and tortured because his name was ‘Umar. [‘Umar, a common Sunni name, was the name of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad whom Shi‘i Muslims denounce as a “usurper” of the caliphate. There have been many instances of Shi‘i sectarian death squads attacking individuals with the name of ‘Umar, as they seek to “purge” regions of Baghdad of Sunni residents in order to facilitate the partition of Iraq.]
