David Irving to sue Warsaw Book Fair
DAVID IRVING the British historian and publisher of Focal Point Publications announced today that he will instruct Warsaw lawyers to sue Ars Polona S.A., organiser of the annual Warsaw International Book Fair, for damages for breach of contract, after its president Mr Grzegorz Guzowski ordered him to remove his stand immediately from the exhibition on May 18. Security officials immediately started breaking up the Focal Point display.
Mr Guzowski explained that he had come under outside pressures.
Mr Irving protested that neither he nor his books on display had broken any laws, and that he had a fully paid exhibition contract with the company, including a two-hour lecture presentation that same evening. (Ars Polona also prohibited the lecture.)
Mr Guzowski undertook at the time and in subsequent messages to refund all Mr Irving's costs, but his firm has since failed to honour that undertaking. In interviews with the media Mr Guzowski has made a number of statements about Mr Irving, which have angered the historian who describes them as untrue.
"Future exhibitors in Warsaw should take notice," said Mr Irving, who exhibits regularly at BookExpo America and other international publishing exhibitions.
