40％以上の得票率をとるか、35％以上の得票率で２位を5％以上離すか、いずれかを満たすと当選、というのがニカラグア大統領選の規定らしい。ロイター通信の報道によると、開票率61％の時点でオルテガ候補の得票率は38.7％、２位候補を8％ほど離している。

このまま行くと、オルテガ候補が第１回目の投票で当選を決め、政権に復帰することが濃厚となってきた。

Nicaragua's Ortega closer to election win

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (Reuters) - Leftist Daniel Ortega led Nicaragua's presidential election with 38.7 percent support after ballots from 61 percent of polling stations were counted on Monday, giving the former guerrilla an almost certain first-round victory.

Washington's old Cold War enemy had a lead of almost 8 percentage points over conservative rival Eduardo Montealegre, the latest result from Sunday's election showed. Ortega's lead was slightly wider than earlier in the day.

Ortega needs 40 percent of the vote, or 35 percent and a 5-point lead over Montealegre, to take victory and avoid a runoff next month.
