A Warning from the Leadership Council of the Taliban Regarding Reciprocal Treatment and Delivery of Deceased Mujahideen and Enemy Forces, and the Harvest of Operations Between Friday, August 4, 2006 and Monday, August 7
By SITE Institute
August 9, 2006
The Leadership Council of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban, recently issued a statement warning the American administration and those who support them in Kabul that their injured and deceased soldiers will be treated the same as their Mujahideen. In the message, preceding this warning, the group cites the delayed receipt of “martyrs’” bodies by their families, as opposed to the timely and immediate delivery of enemy forces to the local authorities in Kabul. The Taliban states: “This action was repeated in other places, which we consider war crimes and which we are compelled to act the same. Who treats our injured and martyrs in a certain way, we will treat their injured and killed in the same way”.
Also, today, Wednesday, August 9, 2006, the Taliban issued a communiqu describing their “harvest” of operations throughout Afghanistan between Friday, August 4 and Monday, August 8, and extending the ultimatum to be met for the release of the Lebanese engineer for an additional 18 hours. The message initially indicated that due to the failure of the Karzai administration to release suspected Taliban features, the group gave themselves the “right” to decide the engineer’s fate. However, they amended this decision due to the parents of the man, named as “Khalil,” an extended the deadline until noon of yesterday, Tuesday.
Within the list of attacks, the Taliban claims responsibility for killing twelve British soldiers in the province of Helmand, where they ambushed a convoy of British tanks on the road between Musa Qala and Gershak on Sunday, August 6, 2006. Also, they purport to have killed twelve American soldiers when rockets were launched at their base near Qlat, in Zabul province, and another four in eastern Nursitan when an American Humvee was destroyed by an improvised explosive device (IED). Other attacks include the murder of an alleged spy for American forces in Ghazni, bombings of Afghani militia and army forces in Farah, Baghlan and Qandahar provinces.
According to media reports, the Lebanese engineer was ultimately rescued by Aghani and foreign forces.
