Major UK air terror plot thwarted/ Fake Terror Obfuscates Lebanon and Iraq Failures
By: Various on: 10.08.2006 [06:49 ] (1590 reads)

Unable to window dress the obvious failure to eradicate growing resistance in Lebanon, Iraq, and Afghanistan―even with the mighty propaganda power of a complaisant media―the neocon intelligence apparatus has staged yet another terrorist event, or would be terrorist event.

Thursday August 10, 2006 7:08 AM

A major terrorist plot to allegedly blow up aircraft in mid-flight has been thwarted.

The plot was foiled in a joint intelligence-led operation by the Metropolitan Police's anti-terrorist branch and security service.

It is believed the aim was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board the aircraft in hand luggage, and that the attacks would have been targeted flights from the UK to the USA. Overnight, police arrested a number of people in London.

Thursday's arrests are the culmination of a major covert counter-terrorist operation lasting several months.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We would like to reassure the public that this operation was carried out with public safety uppermost in our minds.

"This is a major operation which inevitably will be lengthy and complex."

Following Thursday morning's police action, security at all UK airports has been increased and additional security measures have been put in place for all flights.

British Airways said any of its passengers who failed to comply with restrictions on luggage and other items would not be allowed on its planes.

A spokesman said: "Customers are advised to check in as normal but to expect delays at all UK airports.

"British Airways regrets any inconvenience caused. Any customers not complying with this government instruction will not be accepted for travel by British Airways."

Red alert after police 'foil air terror plot'

* 'Liquid chemical devices planned for nine flights'
* 21 arrests and widespread searches under way
* MI5 raises the threat level to critical - attack imminent

A terrorist plot to blow up aircraft in mid-flight has been thwarted, Scotland Yard said. Hand luggage has been banned at UK airports and MI5 has raised the threat level to "critical".

A statement on the MI5 website said: "This means that an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK."

Sources say that liquid chemical devices were suspected. It is believed that the aim was to smuggle the devices on board the aircraft in hand luggage and that the attacks would have been targeted at flights from the UK to the USA. In Washington, counter-terrorism officials said United, American, Continental airlines were targeted.

Senior sources in London said that the terrorists were believed to have been planning to blow up as many as nine aircraft. The sources could not give an accurate estimate about when exactly the simultaneous attacks were planned for, but said there were "operational reasons" which meant action was required last night.
The Home Secretary John Reid said today that police had carried out "a major counter-terrorism operation to disrupt what we believe to be a major threat to the UK and international partners".

He said the main players were "accounted for", but stressed the need to maintain vigilant.

Mr Reid said the alleged plot was "very significant" and was designed to "bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life".

He warned that the operation would mean major disruption at all UK airports from today but he added: "As far as is possible we want people to go about their business as normal."

Additional security measures have been put in place for all flights from UK airports.

A Department of Transport spokesman said: "Regrettably, significant delays at airports are inevitable. Passengers are being asked to allow themselves plenty of extra time and to ensure that other than a few permitted items, all their belongings are placed in their hold baggage and checked in.

"These additional security measures will make travel more difficult for passengers, particularly at such a busy time of the year. But they are necessary and will continue to keep flights from UK airports properly secure.

"We hope that these measures, which are being kept under review by the Government, will need to be in place for a limited period only. In light of the threat to aviation and the need to respond to it, we are asking the travelling public to be patient and understanding and to cooperate fully with airport security staff and the police.

"If passengers have any questions on their travel arrangements or security in place at airports they should contact their airline or carrier."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We would like to reassure the public that this operation was carried out with public safety uppermost in our minds. This is a major operation which inevitably will be lengthy and complex."

Scotland Yard has arrested 21 people in London, the Thames Valley area and Birmingham.

Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson said that the plot was intended to bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions. He said: "This was intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale."

Searches were on-going at a number of addresses, he added. Sources said detectives had found "a number of things that are causing interest" .

It is believed the covert investigation has been going on for several months and it is understood that officers made the arrests overnight not because they feared an attack was likely to happen today but for other intelligence reasons which meant they had to act quickly.

The head of Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch, Peter Clarke, said the plot has "a global dimension". The investigation had involved an " unprecedented" level of surveillance and had involved police forces in the UK and internationally

Foiled plot brings new security, delays

LONDON - British authorities said Thursday they thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in carry-on luggage. Security was raised to its highest level in Britain, and carry-on luggage was banned on all flights. Huge crowds backed up at London's Heathrow airport as officials searching for explosives barred nearly every form of liquid outside of baby formula.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the terrorists planned to use liquid explosives disguised as beverages and other common products and set them off with detonators disguised as electronic devices.

The extreme measures at a major international aviation hub sent ripples throughout the world. Heathrow was closed to most flights from Europe, and British Airways canceled all its flights between the airport and points in Britain, Europe and Libya. Numerous flights from U.S. cities to Britain were canceled.

Washington raised its threat alert to its highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States amid fears the plot had not been completely crushed. The alert for all flights coming or going from the United States was also raised slightly.

Two U.S. counterterrorism officials said the terrorists had targeted United, American and Continental airlines. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Police arrested 21 people, saying they were confident they captured the main suspects in what U.S. officials said was a plot in its final phases that had all the earmarks of an al-Qaida operation.

A U.S. intelligence official said the plotters had hoped to target flights to major airports in New York, Washington and California.

British Home Secretary John Reid said the 21 people were arrested in London, its suburbs and Birmingham following a lengthy investigation, including the alleged "main players" in the plot. Searches continued in a number of locations.

The British Broadcasting Corp. said police were evacuating homes in High Wycombe, a town 30 miles northwest of London, near one of the houses being searched. Police refused to confirm the report or to discuss any details of the searches.

President Bush said during a visit to Green Bay, Wis., that the foiled plot was a "stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists." Despite increased security since Sept. 11, he warned, "It is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America."

While British officials declined to publicly identify the 21 suspects, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said in Paris that they "appear to be of Pakistani origin." He did not give a source for his description, but said French officials had been in close contact with British authorities.

The suspects were "homegrown," though it was not immediately clear if they were all British citizens, said a British police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. Police were working closely with the South Asian community, the official said.

The suicide bombing assault on London subway trains and a bus on July 7, 2005, was carried out by Muslim extremists who grew up in Britain.

The police official said the plotters intended to simultaneously target multiple planes bound for the United States.

"We think this was an extraordinarily serious plot and we are confident that we've prevented an attempt to commit mass murder on an unimaginable scale," Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Stephenson said.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, vacationing in the Caribbean, briefed Bush on the situation overnight. Blair issued a statement praising the cooperation between the two countries, saying it "underlines the threat we face and our determination to counter it."

White House spokesman Tony Snow said Bush also had been briefed by his aides while at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, where he has been on vacation.

"We do believe the plot involved flights from the U.K. to the U.S. and was a direct threat to the United States," Snow said.

While Snow called the plot a serious threat, he assured Americans that "it is safe to travel."

Chertoff, the homeland security chief, said the plot had the hallmarks of an operation planned by al-Qaida, the terrorist group behind the Sept. 11 attack on the United States.

"It was sophisticated, it had a lot of members and it was international in scope. It was in some respects suggestive of an al-Qaida plot," Chertoff said, but he cautioned it was too early in the investigation to reach any conclusions.

It is the first time the red alert level in the Homeland Security warning system has been invoked, although there have been brief periods in the past when the orange level was applied. Homeland Security defines the red alert as designating a "severe risk of terrorist attacks."

"We believe that these arrests (in London) have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted," Chertoff said.

He added, however, there was no indication of current plots within the United States.

Chertoff said the plotters were in the final stages of planning. "We were really getting quite close to the execution phase," he said, adding that it was unclear if the plot was linked to the upcoming fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

A senior U.S. counterterrorism official said authorities believe dozens of people ― possibly as many as 50 ― were involved in the plot. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The plan involved airline passengers hiding masked explosives in carry-on luggage, the official said. "They were not yet sitting on an airplane," but were very close to traveling, the official said, calling the plot "the real deal."

Passengers in Britain faced delays as tighter security was hastily enforced at the country's airports and additional measures were put in place for all flights. Laptop computers, mobile phones, iPods, and remote controls were among the items banned from being carried on board.

Liquids, such as hair care products, were also barred on flights in both Britain and the U.S.

In the mid-1990s, officials foiled a plan by terrorist mastermind Ramzi Youssef to blow up 12 Western jetliners simultaneously over the Pacific. The alleged plot involved improvised bombs using liquid hidden in contact lens solution containers.

Huge lines formed at ticket counters and behind security barriers at Heathrow and other airports in Britain.

Ed Lappen, 55, a businessman from Boston, who was traveling with his wife and daughter to Russia, found himself unable to travel further. "We're safe, we're OK," he said at Heathrow. "Now my daughter is going to get a shopping trip in London."

Hannah Pillinger, 24, seemed less concerned by the announcement. "Eight hours without an iPod, that's the most inconvenient thing," she said, waiting at the Manchester airport.

Most European carriers canceled flights to Heathrow because of the massive delays created after authorities enforced strict new regulations banning most hand baggage.

Tony Douglas, Heathrow's managing director, said the airport hoped to resume normal operations Friday, but passengers would still face delays and a ban on cabin baggage "for the foreseeable future."

Security also was stepped up at train stations serving airports across Britain, said British Transport Police spokeswoman Jan O'Neill. At London's Victoria Station, police patrolled platforms with bomb-sniffing dogs as passengers boarded trains carrying clear plastic bags.

Margaret Gavin, 67, waiting to board a train, said she wasn't scared. "Why should I change my life because some idiots want to blow something up?" she said.

Fake Terror Obfuscates Lebanon and Iraq Failures

Unable to window dress the obvious failure to eradicate growing resistance in Lebanon, Iraq, and Afghanistan―even with the mighty propaganda power of a complaisant media―the neocon intelligence apparatus has staged yet another terrorist event, or would be terrorist event.

Unable to window dress the obvious failure to eradicate growing resistance in Lebanon, Iraq, and Afghanistan―even with the mighty propaganda power of a complaisant media―the neocon intelligence apparatus has staged yet another terrorist event, or would be terrorist event.

“The 21 terrorist suspects arrested in the U.K. overnight had a ‘well-advanced plan’ to detonate electronic devices or liquid explosives disguised as beverages or onboard U.S.-bound aircraft, a sophisticated plot suggestive of al-Qaeda, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said,” reports Bloomberg. “The attacks were aimed at U.S.-bound planes of United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines at London’s Heathrow Airport, the Associated Press reported, citing unidentified undoubtedly neocon U.S. counter-terrorism officials in Washington.”

According to White House propaganda minister, Tony Snow (Job), “The president, prime minister and their key intelligence, law enforcement and security officials have been in close and regular contact. And as you would expect, he has spoken to Prime Minister Blair about these developments in recent days.”

Considering past events, including the “terrorist events” of seven-seven and nine-eleven, we can assume select “law enforcement and security officials” were “in close and regular contact” prior to this latest would-be attack as well.

In standard fashion, in order to apply the correct spin from the outset, we are told this latest operation has “global dimensions,” that is to say it will be billed as not only an “al-Qaeda” operation but other designated “global” enemies will be fingered as well.

“Last month, the global militant group al Qaeda called on Muslims to fight those who backed Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and warned of more attacks unless U.S. and British forces pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan,” reports Reuters.

In the coming hours and days, we can expect the corporate media, eager stenographers for the neocon plan, to connect the dots―blame will be affixed to Iran, Syria, and their “proxy,” Hezbollah, through “al-Qaeda,” now dedicated (or scripted) to help Hezbollah, not that the homegrown resistance group needs any help, especially from a CIA-ISI engineered terror group.

Finally, as attention has now shifted to Muslim bad guys (either imagined or a parade of patsies), Israel will likely increase the severity of its criminal behavior against the civilians of Lebanon and those of Gaza as well, as the American public will be navel gazing video footage of inconvenienced air travel passengers.

Dirty Neo-Fascist Slugs Slam-Dunk Another Terror Scam

Evening round-up of twilight zone manic spewing propaganda blitz

Paul Joseph Watson/Prison Planet.com | August 10 2006

Numerous questions need to be asked about this latest attempt by the dirty Neo-Fascist slugs to bully people into placating to being treated like slaves and updates on the frothing propaganda being spewed by the news networks need to be quantified.

For what it's worth, Drudge currently has this on his front page....

CNN: 'Don't use your cellphone within 50 feet of a suspicious object, you might detonate something'...

Absolute twilight zone irrational bullshit.

ABC News and FOX aren't done with this one yet. ABC says ten deadly terror suspects on the loose - that's not enough for FOX who say ten are on the run.

Reports differ as to when the supposed plot was discovered - BBC says Bush spoke to Blair about it some days ago - other reports say its been known for weeks.

Known for weeks - and yet SNAP - all the ridiculous measures about hair gel, baby milk and water bottles are implemented on a whim. A decision had been made to introduce this latest fraud exactly on time this morning. If it was such a deadly imminent plot why did they wait to put these measures in AFTER the arrests has already taken place?

BBC: "Security chiefs said the group believed to be planning the attack had been under surveillance for some time."

The terrorists were caught engaging in a dry run before the attack. This translates as 'the patsies were making sure they got noticed' - actor James Woods tried to alert the authorities to a similar drill before 9/11 but was ignored.

Bush's comments are totally transparent.

"The American people need to know we live in a dangerous world, but our government will do everything we can to protect our people from those dangers."

The men pointing sub-machine guns at old ladies are here to help. Display the proper level of obedience to your government and we will protect you from the terrorists. Impinge on our ability to 'defend' America and something might go boom boom.

This latest PR scam will subside into implausible buffoonery within days - every other major terror alert that we have encountered is always exposed as a monumental fraud and we see no other eventuality.
