US troops bulldoze 1,000-year old historic district in al-Qa’im, turn it into soccer field.

In a dispatch posted at 2:55pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces had demolished a thousand-year old historic district dating back to the First Abbasi Period (762-833 C.E.) in the city of al-Qa’im near the Iraq-Syria border, turning it into a soccer field. The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported an announcement issued by the Department of Antiquities and signed by ‘Abd al-Karim Falih, the department’s director, on Thursday as saying that the Americans had destroyed a historic district dating from the Abbasi period, completely leveling it with bulldozers and other equipment. The Antiquities Department announcement said that the Americans bulldozed the area into a soccer field despite the fact that it was fenced off with signs posted warning against going inside because it was a Historic Islamic Heritage District.

The statement denounced the behavior of the Americans saying that the district told the story of the Abbasi era, a time of great flowering of Arab-Islamic culture. Mafkarat al-Islam noted that the US forces have destroyed seven historical sites dating back to the Abbasi era and even further back to the earliest Islamic period. One of those was the Abbasi Caliph’s palace in as-Saqlawiyah, another the historic area 30km west of al-Fallujah in which the Battle of Dhat al-‘Uyun was fought by the early Muslim warriors under Khalid ibn al-Walid who liberated the country from the Persian Empire. American forces also destroyed the ‘Anah Citadel and the Hit Citadel, as well as other centuries-old Islamic cites.

Al-Habbaniyah.

Resistance rockets blast US airbase in al-Habbaniyah at dawn Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:29pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters fired six rockets at the former Iraqi Army al-Hadbah airfield in al-Habbaniyah, 69km west of Baghdad, a facility now used by the US occupation as their base in the city. The attack took place at dawn on Thursday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported villagers from the al-Habbaniyah area as saying that the rockets blasted into the US base shortly after the dawn prayer. Two explosions could be heard after the barrage coming from inside the base. US forces later acknowledged the attack but revealed no other details about it. It was the first time in two months that the American forces admitted an attack had taken place on the facility.

Ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation troops set fire to 13 shops full of all their contents in the middle of ar-Ramadi on Wednesday evening without offering any reason for the arson. The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that occupation troops set 13 shops ablaze, including food stores and electronics stores but gave no explanation. The Americans also prevented the owners of the stores and the fire department from extinguishing the fire or recovering the goods that still remained intact inside the shops.

Baghdad.

Car bombs target new Badr Brigade headquarters in Baghdad’s al-Karadah district.

In a dispatch posted at 1:35pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two car bombs exploded in the central Baghdad district of al-Karadah at 10:15am local time Thursday morning. More than 30 people were killed in the blasts and 65 others injured according to a medical source in al-Yarmuk Hospital. The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who was able to get into the area where the blasts took place in the Abu Aqlam neighborhood of al-Karadah. The apparent target of the attacks was a newly established headquarters of the Shi‘i sectarian US-backed Badr Brigades near the Shi‘i mosque of az-Zawiyyah. The correspondent reported that that particular location was the meeting place of the Badr Brigade gunmen who had kidnapped and murdered 10 Sunni youths about one month earlier. The correspondent reported local people as saying that in addition to the two car bombs, a number of shells blasted into the area, killing and wounding about 100 people, most of them Badr Brigade members and supporters.

Puppet “Interior Ministry” engulfed in fire.

In a dispatch posted at 1:15pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier a huge fire broke out in the building of the puppet “Interior Ministry” in downtown Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the fire was still blazing at the time of reporting and that it had engulfed all the floors of the building. At the time of writing, firemen were working to put out the blaze. The correspondent reported that the cause of the blaze had not been disclosed, but witnesses said that the building had not been struck by rockets or missiles nor had here been any armed attack on it. The puppet “Interior Ministry” has been repeatedly linked to instances of extra-legal detentions, torture, and murder, and US occupation forces have recently been under increasing pressure to crack down and investigate some of those practices.

Resistance mortars hit “Green Zone” in Baghdad midday Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 12:35pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance forces fired two mortar shells into the Americans’ high-security zone around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad ﾐ the area dubbed the “Green Zone” by the Americans. The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported sources in the puppet police rescue force in the nearby al-Karakh district as claiming that the shells inflicted only material damage, but he gave no further details.

Four bodies of Sunni victims of sectarian torture, murder found in ad-Durah.

In a dispatch posted at 12:38pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi puppet army personnel discovered the tortured and murdered bodies of four Sunnis in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the forensic medical center as saying that the bodies belonged to Sunnis on the basis of their identity papers. They showed clear signs of torture on their bodies and were shot to death. The names of these latest victims of US-inspired sectarian violence are: ‘Umar Makhlaf ‘Awdah, Sa‘dan Jasim ‘Abd al-Jabbar, Basil ‘Aziz Muhammad, and Muhannad Sayf ‘Abdallah ad-Dulaymi.

In a dispatch posted at 6:50pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the government of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia admitted that Iraqi Resistance fighters had attacked a checkpoint manned by Georgian soldiers serving the American occupation in Ba‘qubah, about 65km northeast of Baghdad. An American military spokesman admitted that Resistance fighters opened fire and threw hand grenades at the Georgian occupation troops on Thursday, wounding five of them. Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported a Georgian government spokesman as saying that six Georgian troops were wounded, two of them severely, the rest lightly in the Resistance attack that took place in the Kharnabat area of Ba‘qubah.

Resistance bomb in box of tomatoes reportedly kills one US soldier, blinds a second.

In a dispatch posted at 5:51pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military vehicle in the northern Iraqi city of al-Mawsil. The al-Mawsil correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet security forces with the rank of Police Commissioner who asked to remain anonymous as saying that the blast took place in the market in the west of the city at noon, local time, Thursday. The source said that a bomb that had been planted in a box of tomatoes by the side of the road blew up, damaging a US vehicle and killing one American soldier and wounding four more of them. One of the wounded men lost his eyes.

Resistance land mine targets puppet army patrol in al-Mawsil Thursday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 1:45pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance land mine exploded by an Iraqi puppet army patrol in the middle of the northern city of al-Mawsil on Thursday morning. The blast killed one Iraqi puppet soldier and wounded three more of them. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that after the blast US troops surrounded the area with a patrol of puppet Iraqi army troops as they raided and searched the shops and stores in the al-Islah az-Zira‘i neighborhood. The witnesses said that no one was arrested in the area.

Tall ‘Afar.

US troops randomly arrest 56 residents of Tall ‘Afar at dawn Thursday after finding small cache of arms buried in park.

In a dispatch posted at 12:55pm Makkah time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation forces carried out a series of indiscriminate arrests in the city of Tall ‘Afar, west of al-Mawsil in northern Iraq, at dawn on Thursday. The Tall ‘Afar correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US troops raided homes in the neighborhoods of as-Saray, Sa‘d, the market area, and other parts of the city, arresting more than 56 people ranging in age from 15 to 60 years. The correspondent reported that the occupation troops found a small cache of weapons buried in one park in the city. The cache held a small number of mortar shells and ammunition for light arms. Residents of Tall ‘Afar told Mafkarat al-Islam that Iraqi puppet army troops supported the Americans during their raids and arrests.
