Two Americans reported killed in separate attacks in Hit.

In a dispatch posted at 6:05pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US soldier who was on patrol in the city of Hit, about 170km northwest of Baghdad. The Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that a US patrol was proceeding along one of the side streets in the al-Jum‘ah neighborhood of eastern Hit when one of the Americans took a direct his from an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter’s bullet, killing him instantly. The attack followed another Resistance attack on an American column on the road to Baghdad in which a US Humvee was disabled and one American killed and three more wounded.

Al-Baghdadi.

Resistance fighter drives tanker truck loaded with explosives into US military headquarters in al-Baghdadi, blowing up the entire facility. More than 30 Americans said killed or wounded in huge blast. In a dispatch posted at 11:35am Makkah time Tuesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance vehicle bomb exploded by the US military headquarters in the middle of al-Baghdadi, about 225km northwest of Baghdad.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Baghdadi as saying that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter drove a tank truck loaded with explosives into the American headquarters, completely destroying the facility and killing or wounding more than 30 US troops who were inside at the time. More than six American military vehicles were destroyed in the huge explosion. The US responded by launching immediate high security measures in al-Baghdadi and the surrounding area.

Al-Khalidiyah.

Resistance mounts four attacks on US, Iraqi puppet forces in al-Khalidiyah in 24 hours.

In a dispatch posted at 12:50pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance carried out four attacks on US occupation troops and their puppet Iraqi regime allies in the town of al-Khalidiyah, about 80km west of Baghdad in the previous 24-hour period. The al-Khalidiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local witnesses as saying that an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed an Iraqi puppet solider who was on guard duty atop an observation tower in the as-Siddiqiyah Bridge military Camp in the as-Siddiqiyah section of the city.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol on the main street in the Jazirat al-Kartan area of the city, disabling a Humvee and wounding four American troops aboard it. Two of the wounded US troops were severely injured. Another Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol in the Jazirat al-Milahah section of town, killing one Iraqi puppet soldier and wounding a second. Two US troops were also wounded in that bomb explosion. Iraqi Resistance forces also fired four 82mm mortar rounds at a camp jointly occupied by US and Iraqi puppet troops in the Jazirat al-Khalidiyah area, scoring direct hits on the facility and sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance bomb blasts US Humvee late Monday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 11:50am Makkah time Tuesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column on ‘17th July Street’ in ar-Ramadi, about 110km west of Baghdad at 7:30pm Monday afternoon. The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the bomb completely destroyed a Humvee, killing or wounding the five US troops aboard it.

Abu Ghurayb.

Woman prisoner in Abu Ghurayb found dead in her cell. US authorities silent as four or five prisoners die every month.

In a dispatch posted at 12:30pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a woman prisoner died Tuesday in her cell in the notorious American Abu Ghurayb prison camp under mysterious circumstances. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source who works with the Abu Ghurayb branch of the Department of Labor and Social Affairs in the prison as saying that prisoner Najiyah Ahmad ‘Aftan al-Juhali of the al-Mahamidah tribe who had been in prison for nine months died in her cell on Tuesday. The reason for her death was not clear.

The source said that Asian service workers in the prison found Najiyah al-Juhali’s body in her cell at dawn. The US military occupation authorities did not confirm or deny the death, in keeping with standard American secretiveness. Four or five prisoners die in Abu Ghurayb every month, the correspondent reported. Their remains are quietly handed over to their families but no announcement of the deaths is ever made. The source attributed the regular deaths to the “bad treatment” of the prisoners by the American troops. Najiyah al-Juhali was put in prison on charges of having stabbed a US occupation soldier in the ar-Ridwaniyah district of southwest Baghdad.

Baath Party Statement: Sectarian Fanatics are Fifth-Column of the Occupation.

In a statement entitled “Sectarian Fanatics are the Fifth Column of the Occupation” the Iraqi Baath Party on Monday denounced both Sunni and Shi‘i sectarian fundamentalist fanatics, the “takfiri” elements (literally: those who regard anyone who disagrees with them as an infidel and a legitimate target) who are trying to “drag Iraq into the minefield” of sectarianism planted by the US, “Israel,” and Iran. The statement noted that the Baath Party was always a promoter of the doctrine that the Arabs were a body whose spirit was Islam. It noted that this was true of all Arabs, regardless of the religion to which they belong, because Islam was also a cultural tradition, not merely a system of religious rites.

The secularism of the Baath, the statement noted, differed from western secularism, in that the Baath encouraged and funded all religious activities of Sunni and Shi‘i Muslims, Christian denominations, Sabaeans, and all others rather than trying to lock religion up in mosques and churches, as is the practice in western secularism. Baathi secularism is thus not aimed against religion or the spirit of Islam or any religious sect or group. On the contrary, the Baath banned the involvement of religious organizations in politics so as to prevent sectarian attempts by this or that group to dominate and repress others, leading to strife and disunity within the country.

The statement said that today, with the rise of sectarian violence in Iraq, there were two chief tasks. “The first task is to hold fast to Islam in its capacity as the spirit of Arabism, and the second task is to prevent Islamist groups from causing sectarian strife for the benefit of colonialism, Zionism, and Arab and Iranian reaction.” “Today, as we observe what is going on, we understand completely and without any hesitation or illusion that the occupation of Iraq could not have taken place were it not for those sectarian fanatics (“takfiriyin”) of various sects, and they have now become tools of the occupation by their attacks on the Shi‘ah in the name of the Sunnah and on the Sunnah in the name of the Shi‘ah, and with their spread of the use of fanatical predjudiced slurs.”

The statement said: “Were it not for the existence of patriotic forces and a patriotic Resistance that embraces all Iraqis ﾐ Muslims, Christians, and Sabaeans, Sunnah and Shi‘ah, Arabs, Kurds, and Turcomans ﾐ a destructive sectarian strife would emerge that could lead to the partition of Iraq as a result of the policies of these takfiriyin.”

“Our party declares that whoever uses the weapon of sectarian fanaticism (“takfir”), particularly against patriotic forces fighting the occupation such as the Baath, is nothing but one of the tools and creatures of the occupation, even if it has been given the role of fighting against the occupation. This is because when one issues sectarian fanatic rulings against the patriotic forces, he is providing a great and direct service to the occupation.” The statement noted that such groups may not be consciously acting in support of the occupation, But they nevertheless objectively play that role because “even if they do not have any suspicious links with the occupation forces, their lack of consciousness makes them prisoners of the plans of the colonialists, Zionists, and agents of the occupation.”

“The misfortunes and catastrophes inflicted on Iraq by these fanatic sectarian groups, both Sunni and Shi‘i, have come to threaten Iraq with partition. That is why Arab nationalist and general patriotic consciousness is now undergoing a renewal and beginning to overcome the sectarian tendencies. The masses have come to look on the takfiri elements with deep suspicion, even openly accusing them of serving the occupation. We must therefore learn the lessons of Iraqi’s bitter experience, in particular the lesson that we must not watch silently as the actions of all these groups spread sectarian strife, as they set themselves up as judges over everyone in accordance with their ignorant mentality, their semi-literacy, or their actual desire to serve the occupation.”

“Iraqi national unity and the determination to hold fast to the principle that Arabism is a body whose spirit is Islam ﾐ that is the natural way and the only way to get out of the minefield laid by America, “Israel,” and Iran ﾐ which the takfiri elements are trying to drag us into.” The statement said that it was well known how fundamentalist groups in the past had arisen in league with Britain and Iran. It pointed out that today as in the past the victims of these groups were patriots and Baathists in the first place. Although they claim to support religion, the various sectarian groups destroyed more than 180 mosques in one 72-hour period in addition to killing many religious scholars, and although they claim to support Islam it was they who lined up with the occupation to carry out its projects in Iraq, training their arms on other Iraqis rather than on the occupiers. But, the statement said: “The muzzles of the guns of the Resistance fighters, the Mujahideen, and the Iraqi people behind them are only aimed at the enemy occupier and at those who place themselves and their arms at the service of this enemy, aiming their guns as the occupation does, these in fact are the first legitimate target of the Resistance.”

Resistance bomb kills four puppet policemen in southeastern Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 4:05pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that two Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded one after the other by a patrol of Iraqi puppet police in the Zuyunah area of southeastern Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in Zuyunah as saying that the bombs, which were planted on ar-Rabi‘i Street on the way to the People’s Stadium, blew up by the patrol, destroying two patrol vehicles and killing four puppet policemen and wounding seven of them.

Resistance bomb blasts puppet troops in al-Ishaqi.

In a dispatch posted at 5:55pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a column of Iraqi puppet forces on the main road north of the city of al-Ishaqi, about 85km north of Baghdad. The al-Ishaqi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the bomb, on the road to Balad, went off by a puppet “National Guard” column, disabling a Hino military vehicle and killing two Iraqi puppet troops and wounding four more of them.

Yathrib.

In a dispatch posted at 3:30pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Islamic Army had taken responsibility in a statement posted on mosques in the city of Yathrib for an attack on a US truc that killed its driver in the city of Yathrib, about 45km north of Baghdad. The Yathrib correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the statement said that the Islamic Army had planted a bomb that went off by the US vehicle, killing its driver in an attack that took place on Saturday morning, 22 July.

Al-Mushahadah.

Resistance bomb reportedly kills US soldier in al-Mushahadah.

In a dispatch posted at 12:15pm Makkah time middayTuesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a US column on the road from al-Mushahadah to Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Mushahadah, about 25km north of Baghdad, as saying that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons and pipe rockets attacked the US column, disabling a Humvee and killing one American soldier and wounding three more of them.

Al-Yusufiyah.

Resistance bomb disables US armored vehicle in al-Yusufiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 5:50pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistnance bomb exploded by a US military column on the highway in al-Yusufiyah, about 30km southwest of Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast disabled an American armored vehicle. No information on the nature or extent of casualties was available, however because US troops quickly moved to seal off the scene of the attack.

Resistance bombards puppet army headquarters in al-Yusufiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 5:50pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces fired six 82mm mortar rounds into the headquarters of the puppet Iraqi Army in the city of al-Yusufiyah, about 30km southwest of Baghdad. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Yusufiyah as saying that the Resistance shells scored direct hits on the puppet army headquarters, sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.

Resistance bombs rip through US supply convoy in Kirkuk.

In a dispatch posted at 10:38am Makkah time Tuesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a series of bombs exploded by a convoy of trucks hauling supplies to the US bases on the main road in the city of Kirkuk in northern Iraq. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police in the city as saying that the Resistance planted a number of bombs along the side of the road from Kirkuk to Baghdad and all exploded nearly simultaneously by the American convoy. Witnesses said that the blasts destroyed two trucks and killed one driver and wounded three more of them.

Al-Mawsil.

One American soldier reported dead, two wounded in Resistance attacks in al-Mawsil.

In a dispatch posted at 5:46pm Makkah time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column on the main road in the al-Yarmuk neighborhood of the northern Iraqi city of al-Mawsil. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Yarmuk as saying that the bomb on the road to the Abu Tammam Exchange disabled a Humvee, wounding two US troops. In a separate attack, an Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US soldier who was with a US patrol that had halted by the entrance to the al-Ba‘th neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil. The American soldier took a direct hit from a Resistance sharpshooter’s bullet and died instantly.
