Hibhib
Questions remain about official US story of az-Zarqawi killing as Hibhib residents flee following rumors of impending American mass arrests.
US forces have arrested the owner of the house in which Abu Musab az-Zarqawi, the leader of one of the Iraqi Resistance movements, was killed in an American air raid on 8 June. Meanwhile, Quds Press reported, the residents of the village of Hibhib are fleeing the area en masse after word spread that the American forces plan to launch a wave of mass arrests among the local population.
A source in the Baqubah puppet police told Quds Press that US forces arrested Aziz Ali, the owner of the house in which az-Zarqawi was killed. The source said that investigations revealed that he was unaware of who az-Zarqawi was or that az-Zarqawi was present in the home. It was established that Aziz rented out the house to a family from Baghdad who had been driven out of the occupied Iraqi capital by the wave of sectarian terror. Nevertheless, according to the source, the Americans continue to hold Aziz, certain that he knows more details about az-Zarqawi and his activities.
Meanwhile, a number of residents of Hibhib told Quds Press that there were two children whose bodies were torn apart in the American bombings, in addition to two women, one of whom was thought to be az-Zarqawis wife, while at least one of the children was thought to be that of az-Zarqawi as well.
An Iraqi puppet security source disclosed to Quds Press that in fact the American aircraft struck four targets in the dawn raid on Thursday, not just one. Az-Zarqawi, the source said, was not in the house that the Americans have been showing off to the media. The source said that other houses and cars were also struck in that air raid and az-Zarqawi might have been in one of them, but the house that is being touted as that where az-Zarqawi resided, the source said, was in fact home to a family from Baghdad who had fled Shii sectarian terror.
Meanwhile dozens of Hibhib families have been fleeing the village after rumors began to circulate that the American forces were preparing a military offensive against the area in which many people would likely be arrested and held and interrogated indefinitely as is standard American practice. Neither the US occupation forces nor the Iraqi puppet regime have made any announcements that could reassure local residents who continue to pack up and leave.
