The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Qa’im as saying that the bomb, which was planted by the side of the main road in the east of the city, blew up by a passing US foot patrol, killing two American soldiers and wounding a third.

Baghdad.

? Following reported death of three US Marines at Baghdad power station, American troops destroy the plant and blame the wrecking on Resistance forces, leaving much of Baghdad, including hospitals, without power.

In a dispatch posted at 9:40pm Mecca time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that although pro-American Iraqi and Arab news agencies reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had set fire to an electricity generating station in central Baghdad on Wednesday morning, cutting off electricity from a large number of neighborhoods and hospitals, the facts of the case appear to be significantly different.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported engineer Sayf al-‘Umari, the Technical Director of the Electricity System for Central Baghdad as saying that the destruction of the electric power station was not carried out by Iraqi Resistance forces by US occupation troops.
In an exclusive interview with Mafkarat al-Islam, al-‘Umari said that the generating station in central Baghdad, near the Biskulatah factory, opposite the heat insulator factory was attacked on Wednesday morning by US Marines. They set fire to four main generators by opening fire intensively upon them. They also wrecked the steam generators in the plant as well. The American attack on the electricity plant took place after an Iraqi Resistance marksman had opened fire on three US troops near the station, an area where there is constant American military presence.
Al-‘Umari told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Marines arrested four of the workers at the electrical plant but that the rest of the workers and technicians fled. Al-‘Umari said that he thought the reason the Americans destroyed that power station, which was vital for the Baghdad electrical grid, was so that they would be able to get out of having to guard it. He said that the Americans changed their guard squad there every four days and that the killing of the three Marines on Wednesday morning provoked them to set the plant on fire and destroy it. He said that his theory was proved to be true by the fact that after the plant had been destroyed, the American guard detachment withdrew from the plant and alleged that it had been wrecked by “terrorists” using long-range rockets.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that all the local and Arab news media reported that the electrical power plant had been wrecked by Resistance fighters.

? President Saddam Hussein calls on Iraqis to unite to fight the occupation and its stooges before US-appointed “judge” closes proceedings to the media.

The US-appointed “judge” at the American-staged “trial” of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein trial closed the proceedings to the media on Wednesday after the President called for Iraqis to join together and fight the occupying forces, the American CNN TV network reported.
President Saddam Hussein, taking the stand at the US-produced “trial” for the first time, spoke about national unity and urged people not to fight among themselves. The Iraqi President, unlike the “witnesses” who testify anonymously behind curtains to the US-directed “court,” did not deliver remarks approved by the American occupation. The American-installed “judge” Ra’uf ‘Abd ar-Rahman, therefore felt compelled to shut off the Iraqi president’s microphone nine times in the course of his testimony to prevent audiences in the courtroom and across the country on television from hearing what he had to say. Finally the proceedings were closed to the media.
Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark who was attending the session as part of the Iraqi President’s defense team, told CNN that that during the closed session Saddam Hussein delivered a “powerful and effective” statement concerning the period in which the events that are the subject of the “trial” took place.
CNN reported Clark as saying that the Iraqi President argued comprehensively about the necessity and legality of what the government had to do during that violent period - wracked by its war with Iran, infiltration from Iran, treason and desertions.
According to CNN, the closed session lasted more than an hour and a half. Clark told CNN that the American-run court “threatened us with prosecution if we release what he said.”
“We don't even have a copy of it.” Clark added. “I hope to get one. I’m going to do everything I can because I think it’s important for the world to know what he said,” Clark told CNN.

But contrary to those official American assertions, television pictures showed 11 bodies in the Tikrit morgue: five children, two men, and four women. A freelance photographer later saw the bodies being buried back in their hometown of al-Ishaqi.
An official in the puppet police who asked not to be identified told Reuters: “they attacked the home of Fayiz Kharat Khalaf Tarafah and killed 11 people, among them five women, two men and four children. Then they destroyed the house and set fire to three cars.”
Reuters reported Major ‘Ali Ahmad of the Ishaqi puppet police as saying that American forces landed on the roof of the house in the early hours of Wednesday morning and shot the 11 occupants, including the five children, to death. “Afterwards, they left the house and blew it up,” Major Ahmad recounted.
Riyad Majid, the nephew of the head of the murdered household said that nine of the victims were family members who lived in the house. The other two were visitors.
Television pictures showed the wrecked house that the Americans had attacked. Next to the building was a completely burned out bus.
Lieutenant Colonel Faruq Husayn, an officer in the puppet police, told Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, that an autopsy performed on the bodies in Tirkit Hospital revealed that all had been shot in the head. Lieutenant Colonel Husayn said that the bodies had been tied up and piled in one room of the house, which had then been blown up over them. He said that the puppet police found empty American shell casings amongst the ruins of the home. “This is a complete and obvious crime,” Lieutenant Colonel Husayn commented.
A relative of the victims said that one of the children was no more than seven months old. “They killed those innocent children,” he exclaimed, asking: “Were they terrorists? Was a seven-month-old child a terrorist?”
