Baghdad.
Appeal for action issued, as location of secret torture prison run by puppet “Interior Ministry” and Badr Brigades, unknown even to US occupation administration in Baghdad, is disclosed.
In a dispatch posted at 9:15pm Mecca time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a source within the puppet “Iraqi Interior Ministry” had disclosed to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent the location of a secret prison run by the “Ministry”; a facility unknown even to the US occupation authorities, where hundreds of prisoners are being secretly tortured and incarcerated for long periods of time.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the source had revealed the location of a large prison similar to that which was uncovered in al-Jadiriyah in November 2005. The source indicated that the prison, which holds more than 300 Sunni Iraqi prisoners who are subjected to inhuman tortures, is unknown to US occupation authorities. The inmates in the facility have therefore not been added to the list of prisoners in the country.
The source, who asked not to be identified, told Mafkarat al-Islam that the secret prison is located in the home of a son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, a building locally known as the Qasr al-Qibab (Palace of Domes) in Baghdad’s al-Masbah area in al-Karradah. The source said that the prison is next to the headquarters of the so-called Iraqi National Party which is led by Hatem Mukhlis, one of the candidates who lost in the recent US-sponsored “elections.”
The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that the prison exists under official cover, with the name Economic Security Prison (Sijn al-Amn al-Iqtisadi), but in reality it is run privately by the Shi‘i sectarian Badr Brigade militia and the puppet “Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir).” The source said that there are seven women among the prisoners and a large number of men who have spent more than a whole year imprisoned there. “Some of them have not seen daylight in months,” the source said.
Conditions in the facility cannot be compared with those in any other prison or detention center in the world, the source went on. Most of those in charge of torture and investigation of the prisoners are Iranians.
The prison has an entire wing known as “the Slaughterhouse” (al-Maslakh) in which prisoners captured by the Badr Brigades ミ in the guise of soldiers in the “Interior Ministry Shock Troops (Maghawir)” ミ are killed.
This prison was a secondary facility for the puppet “Interior Ministry” until the Jadiriyah torture prison was discovered and shut down by US occupation forces amidst heavy media coverage in November 2005. After the closing of al-Jadiriyah, this facility became the main secret prison operated by the Badr Brigades.
The Iraqi Resistance Report endorses the appeal issued by Mafkarat al-Islam to all humanitarian bodies and all human rights associations to go to the site reported and expose the truth of the place. An indication of the seriousness of the report might be gleaned from the fact that Mafkarat al-Islam was among the first news media to report on the torture prison of al-Jadiriyah.
