Now Mr Blair must tell us why we really went to war

Private discussions
A book by human rights lawyer Philippe Sands is said to claim that Mr Blair had committed this country to war in private discussions with President George W. Bush well before the final attempt was made to obtain a UN Security Council Resolution specifically authorising it - and well before Parliament was allowed to vote on the matter.
There is strong circumstantial backing for this from the parallel account of the same period by Sir Christopher Meyer, then the British Ambassador in Washington.
Mr Sands, a knowledgeable and reputable source, is expected to say that Mr Blair knew perfectly well that the invasion would still go ahead if the resolution were not passed, and that British forces would take part.
The Prime Minister's supposed fury at France's President Jacques Chirac for opposing such a resolution is called into serious question.
These charges come at a very dangerous time for Mr Blair, who has picked a fight with his own party over schooling that will be hard for him to win without accepting the deadly embrace of David Cameron's Tories.
If his opponents see this as a chance to re-run the vote to go to war, which so many of them now regret, it will be even more dangerous.
