The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported from near the scene of the fighting that flames were rising from a house in the area, but at that time the reason for the fire remained unclear. What was clear, however, was that violent combat with machine guns and shoulder-launched rockets was taking place at that time.
Later, in a dispatch posted at 4pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Captain ‘Adnan Sabir al-Muhammadi of the al-Fallujah puppet police said that in the course of the fighting, two American Humvees had been destroyed and at least five US troops killed, with other American soldiers wounded.

(Iraqi schools are closed on Fridays.)
Captain al-Muhammadi said that a house near the scene of the fighting caught fire when an American tank fired a shell into the second floor of the building, but that no civilians were hurt or killed, since Resistance fighters were seen helping the residents out of the house before the building caught on fire.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing US troops evacuating their dead and wounded after the Resistance had withdrawn from the area of the fighting. Two wrecked American military vehicles remained burning in the road at the scene for half an hour before American forces could bring in other vehicles to haul the hulks away.
At the time of reporting, the correspondent said that US troops still had the entire an-Nazal neighborhood surrounded.
