Al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 7:50pm Mecca time Monday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a high-explosive Iraqi Resistance bomb had exploded by an American military column near the housing complex in the ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah area, south of the city of al-Fallujah proper, at 2pm local time Monday afternoon.

The ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that the bomb exploded by a column of 12 Amerian armored vehicles, completely destroying one of them. The witnesses said that the vehicle continued to burn for a long time after the explosion and that none of the members of its eight-man crew came out following the blast.

After the attack, the American column came to a halt and the US troops closed the road. Helicopters came in after about half an hour to evacuate the wrecked armored vehicle and the dead and wounded.

US seals off all-Fallujah as US troops arrive for new offensive against city population.

In a dispatch posted at 5:10pm Mecca time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the official spokesman for he Iraqi puppet army in al-Fallujah, Nahi al-Ka‘bi had told a press conference in the government office building in the city Monday morning that 1,000 additional US troops were going to arrive in the city in the next few days in order to reinforce the US and Iraqi puppet units already operating there. In the last few days, American and Iraqi puppet regime forces have been carrying out expanded operations against Iraqi Resistance forces in the city, the spokesman said.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, who attended the press conference, reported al-Ka‘bi as saying the beefed up American presence was aimed at increasing “security” in the city.

Al-Ka‘bi added that they had received information that Resistance fighters ミ whom he dubbed “terrorists” ミ had been coming into al-Fallujah along its four different access roads. These fighters were joining up with local patriots ミ whom al-Ka‘bi inappropriately called “weak spirited” local people ミ and were carrying out armed attacks on US and puppet army forces, he said.

To respond to this increase in Resistance activity in al-Fallujah, al-Ka‘bi told the press, the reinforced American and Iraqi puppet forces are planning to launch raids and searches in every house and neighborhood of the city, in the hopes of arresting Resistance fighters and anyone who might be helping them.

At the Monday morning press conference, al-Ka‘bi declined to give further details on the impending offensive against the al-Fallujah population. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, however, noted that all the four entrances to the city had been closed as of dawn on Monday, preventing local residents who wanted to leave from getting out. The city remained sealed off as of the time of reporting.

US, Iraqi puppet forces wage campaign of raids and arrests in northeast al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 12:10pm Mecca time midday Monday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US and Iraqi puppet forces launched a campaign of house-to-house raids and arrests in the northeastern neighborhoods of al-Fallujah in the early hours of Monday morning.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local residents who witnessed the raids as saying that US forces backed up by Iraqi puppet troops stormed into dozens of houses using percussion grenades and explosives to blast down doors. The troops ransacked the homes and wrecked furniture and arrested dozens of local residents on suspicion of carrying out attacks on US and Iraqi puppet forces in the city.

Two US troops reported killed in hour-long gun battle in al-Fallujah Sunday night.

In a dispatch posted at 2:20pm Mecca time Monday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce fighting had broken out between Iraqi Resistance fighters and US occupation troops in southern al-Fallujah on Sunday night.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons ambushed a US patrol in the Nazal neighborhood of southern al-Fallujah sparking a firefight that lasted roughly an hour.

The attack and battle heavily damaged vehicles in the US patrol and left two American soldiers dead and four more of them wounded. One Iraqi Resistance fighter was killed and another wounded before the Resistance men withdrew from the scene.

Afterwards, US forces imposed stringent security measures in the city and sent out heavy patrols in al-Fallujah. They also imposed tight security on the city’s entrances and exits.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Shaykh al-Fahdawi has been one of the most prominent local notables who engaged in negotiations with the occupation. He had recently been urging local residents to volunteer to join the puppet army and puppet police installed by the US occupation forces, trying to justify such collaboration on the grounds that this would supposedly facilitate a withdrawal of American troops from the center of the city out to the American bases that ring ar-Ramadi.

A medical source in ar-Ramadi General Hospital confirmed that Shaykh Nasr had been struck by several bullets in his chest and head, causing his death before ambulances could bring him to the hospital.

The source said that as-Samarra’i made the move after commanders of the Badr Brigade threatened to kill him and his family for his remarks to the effect that the Badr Brigades were under the control of Iran and were working to wipe out the Sunnis in Iraq, eliminating them from all offices in the puppet regime administration. As-Samarra’i had said that the Americans had paid no attention to what the Iraqis fully expected to happen when they gave Iran full freedom of action on Iraqi soil.

The Shi‘i sectarian Badr Brigades are the armed wing of the so-called Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) whose 30,000 troops, until then armed and trained in Iran, invaded Iraq together with US military units in the spring of 2003.
