Interior minister: Enemies most likely involved in two plane crashes Tehran, Jan 28, IRNA
Recent crashes of two military planes in Iran have most likely been the result of electronic jamming by enemies' intelligence agents, Iran's Minister of Interior Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi was quoted here as saying on Saturday.
The Persian-language daily 'Iran' said the minister made the remarks on his arrival in Tehran from the southern city of Ahvaz, capital city of Khuzestan province, on Friday.
He was in Ahvaz to attend funeral services for six civilians who lost their lives in two terrorist bombings in the city last Tuesday which also wounded 40 other people.
"Given all intelligence information that we have gathered, we can say that agents of the United States, Britain and Israel are seeking to destabilize Iran through a coordinated plan," said the minister who is also head of Iran's Security Council.
"We knew that enemies had launched fresh efforts to make the country insecure," Pour-Mohammadi was further quoted as saying by the daily.
On January 9, 2006, a Falcon military plane, crashed at a village 12 km west of the city of Orumiyeh in West Azarbaijan province, and all 11 persons on board, including a number of senior commanders of the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps (IRGC), were martyred.
According to reports, the IRGC commanders were heading to Orumiyeh from Tehran on a mission.
Another military aircraft, a C-130 cargo plane, also crashed in southern Tehran on December 6, 2005, claiming the lives of over 100 Iranians on board and on the ground. Most of the victims were mediamen who were on a mission to cover a military exercise in the Persian Gulf waters.
"Our enemies have targeted our nation and those who are in charge of maintaining the country's security," said the minister.
However, he warned the "enemies" to be aware that their wicked plans "are doomed to fail and this will bring nothing to them but misery."
Touching on the last Tuesday's explosions in Ahvaz, the minister said those involved in the bombings were identified and most of them arrested.
According to Pour-Mohammadi, out of the unspecified number of the arrested suspects, ten were handed over to judicial officials.
The minister hoped that they would receive due punishments for their crimes after completion of legal procedures.
Unfortunately, said the minister, those who were involved in the bombings were mostly local citizens "deceived by the intelligence agents of the enemies."
