Tanker filled with forged ballots marked for the Shi‘i sectarian “United Iraqi Alliance” party found after crossing the border from Iran.
The Bahraini newspaper Akhbar al-Khalij reported from Baghdad on Tuesday that a source in the puppet police in the southern Iraqi city of al-Kut reported that a tank truck filled with hundreds of thousands of fake ballots marked in support of the so-called United Iraqi Alliance had been discovered near the city of Badrah on the border with Iran. The tanker had just crossed the border from Iran and was on its way to the southeast Iraqi city of al-Kut.
The United Iraqi Alliance is the political party headed by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, the head of the pro-American Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) whose armed wing, the Badr Brigades, invaded Iraq together with US forces in the spring of 2003 and now make up the backbone of the occupation regime’s security and military forces. The UIA has the backing of pro-American Shi‘i religious authority ‘Ali as-Sistani, who despite the role he plays among Iraqi Shi‘ah, is an Iranian citizen.
The source told Akhbar al-Khalij that the ballots had been forged in such a way that they were indistinguishable from those issued by the American-installed regime in Iraq. The police source said that it was entirely possible that similar tankers loaded with ballots had been dispatched to other cities in Iraq, making it highly likely that the election returns from the voting on Thursday, 15 December, will be entirely false.
