Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance fighter drove into the American patrol, damaging two of the American vehicles, one of which was totally destroyed. The witnesses said that none of the members of the six-man crew of that vehicle emerged from it after the attack. Three American troops were seriously wounded in the second vehicle, the witnesses reported.

Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the area that two bombs that had been planted by the side of the main road blew up nearly simultaneously as a column of five US Zeal personnel carriers and three Humvees was driving past.
The explosions killed at least five American soldiers and wounded four other US troops, the witnesses reported

Ar‘ar.
US helicopter shot down in two hours of fighting near Saudi border early Wednesday.
Iraqi Resistance forces battled US Marines in the area of ‘Ar‘ar on the Iraqi side of the border with Saudia for about two hours early Wednesday morning.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the ‘Ar‘ar border complex area reported that US occupation forces together with a division of the Iraqi puppet army deployed in large numbers along the Iraqi-Saudi border three days ago. The Americans and the puppet troops expelled the settled Bedouin who live in that whole region, driving them out together with their herds of sheep. The occupation troops then set up military camps and aerial observation points there.
All that US military activity attracted the Iraqi Resistance who began their assault early Wednesday by mounting mortar attacks and followed that up with an attack of more than 30 Resistance fighters according to eyewitnesses.
Intermittent fighting lasted nearly two hours. In the course of it, one American helicopter was shot down and two American vehicles were destroyed. Three other armored vehicles were disabled by Iraqi Resistance shoulder-fired rockets.
The witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that American helicopters followed the Resistance men into the desert after they pulled out following their attack. The US aircraft managed to destroy a Nissan pickup that some of the Resistance fighters were driving. That attack left six Resistance men dead, the witnesses reported.

Residents of as-Saqlawiyah who witnessed the bombardment told the al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance attacked a house in the al-Bu Shajal area which the Americans had occupied and turned into a military encampment for themselves.
The mortar barrage destroyed a large part of the camp and left six US troops dead or wounded, three of them American snipers who had been posted atop the roof of the building, the witnesses said.
Ar-Ramadi.
Resistance bombards US camp in ar-Ramadi stadium early Wednesday.
Iraqi Resistance forces mounted a fierce attack on the building of the ar-Ramadi stadium that US forces have taken over and turned into a military camp for themselves in the middle of the city. The assault occurred at 7am local time Wednesday morning.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of az-Zaydan as saying that US and Iraqi puppet forces have been carrying out coordinated arrests on a large scale of Sunni residents of their area, claiming that they have been aiding or actively participating in attacks on the occupation forces and the puppet troops in az-Zaydan and surrounding areas and villages.
The residents of the area reported that so far more than 55 civilian residents of their area have been rounded up and taken away and nothing is known about their subsequent fate.

That blast destroyed one American Humvee, killing or wounding the members of its four-man crew.
The Resistance then followed up with the second part of the attack by detonating a bomb among the Iraqi puppet troops who were coming to the aid of the Americans along a road leading to the scene of the car bombing. Those Iraqi puppet army troops had been in a patrol operating in support of the American force. The second bombing set fire to one Iraqi puppet army vehicle, killing or wounding four Iraqi puppet army troops.
Iraqis apprehend two Americans disguised as Arabs trying to detonate a car bomb in a residential neighborhood of western Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah district on Tuesday.
A number of Iraqis apprehended two Americans disguised in Arab dress as they tried to blow up a booby-trapped car in the middle of a residential area in western Baghdad on Tuesday.
Residents of western Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah district told Quds Press that the people had apprehended the Americans as they left their Caprice car near a residential neighborhood in al-Ghazaliyah on Tuesday afternoon (11 October 2005). Local people found they looked suspicious so they detained the men before they could get away. That was when they discovered that they were Americans and called the Iraqi puppet police.
Five minutes after the arrival of the Iraqi puppet police on the scene a large force of US troops showed up and surrounded the area. They put the two Americans in one of their Humvees and drove away at high speed to the astonishment of the residents of the area.
Quds Press spoke by telephone with a member of the al-Ghazaliyah puppet police who confirmed the incident, saying that the two men were non-Arab foreigners but declined to be more precise about their nationality.
Quds Press pointed out that about a month ago, the Iraqi puppet police in the southern Iraqi city of al-Basrah arrested two Britons whom they accused of attempting to cause an explosion in the city. The Britons were taken into custody by the Iraqi puppet police only to be broken out of prison by an assault of British occupation troops. That incident has created a tense relationship between the British and the local puppet authorities in al-Basrah, Quds Press noted.

Supreme Sunni Muslim authority rejects participation in referendum on US-sponsored “Constitution” denounces “Islamic Party” for agreeing to take part.
The Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq on Wednesday denounced the position on the referendum on the US-sponsored “Iraqi constitution” that the so-called “Islamic Party of Iraq” has taken. The “Islamic Party,” an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood with a pattern of on-and-off collaboration with the US occupation, called on Iraq’s Sunni Muslims to take part in the American-backed referendum on the “constitution” that was drawn up under US supervision.
The Association of Muslim Scholars, the highest religious authority for Sunni Muslims in occupied Iraq on Wednesday denounced the “Islamic Party’s” call to participate in the referendum saying that the “honorable person will avoid taking part in the political system under the shadow of the occupaion.”
A source in the Association of Muslim Scholars told Mafkarat al-Islam in the Umm al-Qura Mosque headquarters of the organization, that the Association does not support the “Constitution” and will not take part nor agree to others’ taking part nor endorse taking part in the referendum. The Association says that the “Constitution” “was drafted by American hands” and is intended to partition Iraq and place it under Iranian-Iraqi domination.
Asked about the Association’s position on the “Islamic Party,” the representative told Mafakrat al-Islam that he hopes that the party will “change its position as quickly as possible.
The representative said that in the last few days a Sunni consensus had formed unanimously and totally rejecting the “Constitution” ミ something that aroused the fears of the Shi‘i sectarian parties and of pro-American Shi‘i religious cleric Ayatallah ‘Ali as-Sistani in particular that a Sunni boycott could scuttle the “Constitution.” It was that fear the drove them to try to lure in certain Sunni parties into supporting the “Constitution” or at least the referendum with offers of good government positions in the future regime they hope to set up on the basis of that “Constitution” under the shadow of the US occupation’s cannon.
Sunni Muslim organizations plan demonstrations on Thursday to denounce Islamic Party’s participation in referendum.
Sunnis in al-Fallujah, ar-Ramadi, Samarra’, and Mosul plan to hold mass demonstrations on Thursday to protest the acceptance by the Islamic Party of participation in the referendum slated for Saturday on the US-backed “Iraqi Constitution.”
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent has learned that the Board of Religious Propaganda and Guidance and a number of religious scholars have planned rallies in front of Islamic Party offices throughout the country to demand that it return to the Sunni consensus position of refusing to participate in the political system so long as the occupation remains in the country.
Iraqi Baath Party denounces “Islamic Party” as American stooge.
The Arab Baath Socialist Party issued a statement on Wednesday in which it reiterated its denunciation of 19 November 2004 of the “Islamic Party” as an “agent” of the US and a product of the American occupation.
The statement pointed out that the Baath had repeatedly warned against sectarianism and against the reverse sectarianism that would appear to be a defense of Sunnis against the Shi‘ah and the Kurds but in fact would play into the hands of the US effort to partition the country along ethnic and religious lines. The position taken by the “Islamic Party” in accepting the American “Constitution” for Iraq exposed the role of that party once again, the Baath said, as a sectarian puppet manipulated by the US and the Jordanian regime in an effort to prettify the referendum regarding the occupation constitution that is based on Shi‘i sectarianism and opens the door to partition of the country.
The Baath warned that there was a possibility that the “Islamic Party” might set up its own armed Sunni militia with the blessings of the US occupation ostensibly to protect Sunnis, but in reality to push forward the plans of the Americans and work within their security plans enforcing their rule over the country.
The Baath called for the isolation of the “Islamic Party” and for denunciations of its effort to harmonize with the plans of the occupation as it makes use of Jordanian regime funding and aims at promoting Sunni sectarianism in the country.
“The Iraqi people and their armed national Resistance . . . demand that Muslim Brotherhood organizations in the Arab Nation condemn and isolate the ‘Islamic Party’ stooge and cut all ties with its traitor leaders,” the Baath statement urged.
Salah ad-Din Province.

The blast set one of the trucks on fire, seriously wounding the driver.

The Mafkart al-Islam correspondent reported residents of an-Nu‘ayriyah who witnessed the bombardment as saying that four mortar rounds blasted into the middle of the US headquarters setting of explosions and sending pillars of smoke rising into the sky from inside the compound.
Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Faw Peninsula.
Badr Brigade, Iraqi puppet army troop carry out sectarian arrests of Sunnis at sunset Wednesday.
A force of Iraqi puppet army troops accompanied by more than 50 members of the Shi‘i sectarian pro-US Badr Brigades carried out mass raids and searches of houses of Sunni Iraqi residents of the al-Faw peninsula near al-Basrah at 5:45pm Wednesday, as the sun was setting and people were gathering in their homes to break the Ramadan fast.
Sunni witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the puppet regime and Badr Brigade forces stormed into more than 36 homes and arrested more than 44 people.
The correspondent reported that arrests were carried out along sectarian lines. One woman whose husband was taken away by the Badr Brigades and puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that the raiders suddenly burst in upon them and asked whether they were Sunni or Shi‘i. “When they saw that we had broken the fast, and begun to say the evening prayers without waiting for the star to rise, the way the Shi‘ah do, they arrested my husband and my 17-year-old son,” the woman told Mafkarat al-Islam. She added that they then also robbed the family of their money and jewelry.
Another local resident said that the Badr Brigade members were stopping youths and men on the street to ask them about who the 12 “infallible Imams” were a reference to a Shi ‘ doctrine not shared by Sunni Muslims. They immediately arrested anyone who couldn’t answer the question, being sure that he must be a Sunni.
The source explained that the Badr Brigades were now manning their own checkpoints around the area (which they have set up with the knowledge and acquiescence of the British occupation forces) and Brigade sectarian militiamen stop people to demand that they identify themselves as Sunni or Shi‘i. Since the Sunnis are then arrested, some Sunnis have recently taken to saying that they are Shi‘i in an attempt to avoid arrest, the source said. So now the Badr Brigade members have begun to question passers by about the names of the companions of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib the patron of Shi‘i Islam at the Battle of the Camel in the Seventh Century, or about the names of the 12 Shi‘i Imams. Those who are unable to answer are “exposed” as Sunni and immediately arrested.
Sources in the area report that the mass sectarian arrests carried out on Wednesday evening were in fact the fourth such sweep in the area. The Iraqi puppet army and Badr Brigades have been making mass sectarian arrests in raids on Sunni houses in the south and central part of the city of al-Basrah and various other nearby areas since the month of Ramadan began on 5 October.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that arrested Sunnis are frequently tortured by Badr Brigade followers of pro-American Shi‘i religious authority Ayatallah ‘Ali as-Sistani, and most are said to wind up dead.
