US, Iraqi puppet troops sweep through Upper Euphrates region making mass arrests.

In the largest operation of its kind in many months, the US occupation forces backed up by Iraqi puppet army troops have swept through the Upper Euphrates cities of al-Hadithah, al-Haqlaniyah, ‘Anah, Rawah, and al-Qa’im making mass arrests among the local population.

A spokesman for the Iraqi puppet army in al-Anbar Province announced on Thursday afternoon that the number of people arrested by the occupation authorities in the area in the last 72 hours was more than 1,000 residents who have ranged in age from 18 to 50.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the spokesman for the Iraqi puppet army’s Eighth Brigade in al-Anbar announced to a number of journalists that those arrested are all Sunni Iraqis who are “suspected” of being members, active supporters, or sympathizers of the Iraqi Resistance ﾐ or as the US-installed regime in Baghdad calls them “terrorist organizations.”

The spokesman said that the hundreds of arrested Iraqis are now being imprisoned in 11 houses in the city of al-Hadithah. The local owners of those houses fled before the American offensive now under way in that city, the spokesman explained, allowing the US forces to take them over and turn them into temporary prisons. American Marines are currently guarding those imprisoned Iraqis, pending their transfer to the infamous Abu Ghurayb prison where they will be subjected to interrogation.

This is regarded as the largest sweep of its kind in western Iraq since the Second Battle of al-Fallujah which concluded towards the end of January 2005.

Al-Fallujah.

Six US troops reported killed in bombing on al-Halabisah Bridge Thursday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military patrol in the al-Halabisah area west of al-Fallujah at 4pm local time Thursday afternoon.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that the explosion occurred atop the al-Halabisah Bridge and totally destroyed one American armored vehicle. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the blast killed six US troops who were aboard the vehicle which continued to burn for nearly a quarter of an hour.

American troops surrounded the area after the blast and later hauled away the wreckage of the armored vehicle.

Resistance bombards US-occupied facilities in ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah Thursday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:25pm Mecca time Thursday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded headquarters of the US occupation forces in ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah three days after the Americans had set up headquarters in houses in the area.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying hat the Resistance bombarded the American facilities on several occasions. Then at about 6pm Thursday local time the Resistance fired three powerful Grad rockets and four Katyusha missiles into the American encampments.

The correspondent reported that the rockets struck their targets accurately. US forces responded by firing at the areas from which the rockets were launched, but that was only after the impact of the Resistance rockets had already sent up clouds of smoke over the occupied American facilities.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that US forces allowed no one to approach their positions, making it impossible to ascertain any information regarding the nature or extent of casualties.

Resistance attacks Iraqi puppet army camp.

In a dispatch posted at 4:30pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had attacked an Iraqi puppet army base in al-Fallujah.

The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that members of the Iraqi Resistance attacked a camp of Iraqi puppet army forces in the middle of the al-‘Askari neighborhood of eastern al-Fallujah.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of al-Fallujah who witnessed the attack as saying that Resistance fighters first fired one mortar shell that blasted into the middle of the camp and the assaulted the facility with light and medium weapons, including PKS machine guns. The attack lasted about 10 minutes.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that it was impossible to ascertain accurate information on the extent or nature of casualties because the Iraqi puppet army troops were firing all over the area where there were civilians indiscriminately making it impossible to approach their position.

Two US troops reported killed early Thursday in car bombing in ‘Amiriyah al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 10:50am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US foot patrol in the area of ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah, south of al-Fallujah, proper.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah who witnessed the attack said that an explosives-packed car that had been parked by the side of the road leading to the village of Zawbi‘, south of ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah, blew up as a US foot patrol was passing. The witnesses said that two US troops were killed and two others wounded in the blast.

Resistance bomb blasts US troops in al-Fallujah’s industrial zone.

In a dispatch posted at 9:50am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb had exploded by a US patrol in the industrial zone in the southeast of al-Fallujah.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported owners of workshops in the industrial zone who witnessed the attack as saying that a bomb that had been planted in the middle of an unpaved road in the area blew up as a US patrol passed over it, destroying one US Humvee, and killing or wounding four American troops who were aboard it.

Al-Baghdadi.

Resistance bombards US ‘Ayn al-Asad military base midday Thursday.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the main US base in the western Iraqi city of al-Baghdadiyah ﾐ a facility known as the ‘Ayn al-Asad military base ﾐ at about 1pm local time Thursday.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Baghdadi reported local eyewitnesses as saying that two barrages were fired at the US base. In the first attack, the Resistance fired three medium-range Katyusha rockets at the facility, all of which blasted into the base.

Then 10 minutes later, the Resistance fired another three medium-range Katyusha rockets into the facility and again all of them struck home. The bombardments sent smoke rising over the base. American helicopters flew in over the facility and its environs after the attacks.

Rawah.

Resistance car bomber blasts US equipment truck in convoy near Rawah.

In a dispatch posted at 11am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance fida’i fighter had driven an explosives-laden car into a column of several American Humvees and several US trucks loaded with equipment for American forces on the road to the city of al-Qa’im Thursday morning.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Rawah reported residents of the city who witnessed the attack as saying that the Resistance fighter in the car surprised the American column as it was driving along the highway. The Resistance fida’i blew himself and his car up near one of the American trucks, totally destroying the truck and killing its driver. A second soldier was wounded in the assault.

Baghdad.

Resistance bomb targets Iraqi puppet police patrol in downtown Baghdad.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by an Iraqi puppet police patrol on Palestine Street in downtown Baghdad near the US-installed “Ministry of Petroleum” at about 1pm local time.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police who asked not to be identified as saying that an explosives-laden car that was parked by the side of Palestine Street half a kilometer from the US-installed “Petroleum Ministry” blew up as the Iraqi puppet police column was passing. The blast set one Iraqi puppet police car and one civilian car on fire. Five members of the puppet police force were killed and three others wounded. One civilian who happened to be on the scene at the time was also killed in the blast.

Resistance battles US, Iraqi puppet army troops at southern end of Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 4pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters had battled US troops and Iraqi puppet army forces in various areas south of Baghdad during the previous 24 hours.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad reported residents of the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah as saying that Iraqi Resistance fighters equipped with light arms and PKS machine guns had attacked an Iraqi puppet police patrol that was accompanied by several American military vehicles in the al-Bu ‘Ithah aera south of ad-Durah. The clashes damaged two Iraqi vehicles and left one puppet policeman dead and four others wounded.

A member of the Iraqi puppet police in Baghdad reported that Resistance fighters attacked a joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol in the as-Sayyidiyah area south of Baghdad sparking a clash that lasted about 10 minutes. The engagement left two US troops wounded and two Iraqi puppet policemen dead. Two other Iraqi puppet policemen were wounded.

Babil Province.

Al-Mahmudiyah.

Resistance ambushes joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol in al-Mahmudiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 4pm Thursday afternoon Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that fierce clashes had raged between Resistance fighters and a joint US-Iraqi puppet army force in the area of al-Mahmudiyah.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons as well as mortars battled US and Iraqi puppet army forces, setting one American Humvee and two vehicles belonging to the Iraqi puppet military on fire. About 12 US and Iraqi puppet army troops were killed or wounded in the battle.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Bayji.

Resistance ambushes US truck convoy south of Bayji.

In a dispatch posted at 3:45pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters, armed with light and medium weapons and pipe rockets, attacked a column of trucks loaded with provisions and equipment for US troops on the road leading to al-Hadithah near the al-Jazirah area southwest of Bayji.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that residents of the al-Jazirah area said that the attackers set four trucks on fire, killing four truck drivers who were working for the US occupation forces.

Balad.

Resistance bombards joint US-Iraqi puppet headquarters in Balad.

In a dispatch posted at 3pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had fired three mortar rounds into the joint US-Iraqi puppet army headquarters in the city of Balad north of Baghdad.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported local residents as saying that the three shells blasted into the headquarters sending up clouds of smoke.

Diyala Province.

Ba‘qubah.

Resistance mounts two attacks on US positions in Ba‘qubah within 24 hours.

In a dispatch posted at 10:15am Thursday morning Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters had carried out two attacks in Ba‘qubah, northeast of Baghdad in the previous 24 hours.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of the Ba‘qubah al-Jadidah disrict as saying that the Resistance fired four mortar rounds into the US military headquarters in the north of the city, setting off explosions and sending pillars of smoke billowing into the sky overhead.

In a second attack, Iraqi Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons including PKS machine guns and RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades ambushed a US patrol at the al-Quds junction at the southern entrance to Ba‘qubah. The Resistance completely destroyed one Humvee and disabled a second. Seven American troops were killed or wounded in the assault.

Al-Miqdadiyah.

Resistance bomb targets US column northeast of al-Miqdadiyah.

In a dispatch posted at 11:30am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column on the road between al-Miqdadiyah and Khanaqin in the east of Diyala Province.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Diyala reported residents of the Ways area as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the side of the road to Khanaqin blew up as a US column of several Humvees passed by. The blast destroyed one of the vehicles, killing or wounding four American troops who had been aboard it.

Buhriz.

American forces arrest 12 local youths in Buhriz late Wednesday night.

US military forces with helicopter air cover carried out a campaign of searches and arrest in the Buhriz area south of Ba‘qubah late on Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that US troops surrounded most neighborhoods in Buhriz and deployed snipers on housetops. They then began raiding and searching houses. The Americans arrested about 12 local youths in their sweep.
